Summary: The Best Cherry Blossom Art Book Ever
Review: Ever since I found out that my soulmate likes cherries, I am hooked. First, the best cherries come from Wahington State - easily. They are the best and they make a great gift for someone you are courting, too! Unfortunately, there are few paintings of Washington State cherries in this book, but either way it makes a great gift if you are looking to win someone over who loves cherries too. The pictures are awesome - I even bought one for my Mom!

As the book explains, the cherry blossom (sakura) is Japan's unofficial national flower. It has been celebrated for many centuries and takes a very prominent position in Japanese culture.

I was tickled pink to learn that there are many dozens of different cherry tree species in Japan, most of which bloom for just a couple of days in spring. The Japanese celebrate that time of the year with hanami (blossom viewing) parties under the trees with picnics, drinking and singing.

Due to Japan's large geographical north south extension, the cherry blossoms bloom during different times throughout the country: In Okinawa they start blooming as early as January, reach Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto usually in the beginning of April, and finally bloom in Hokkaido in May. Blooming forecasts become a regular part of Japanese television news and newspapers during the cherry blossom season.

Enough on that -- the paintings are wonderful, so for anyone looking to win the heart of another - try sakura, or cherry blossom paintings, and if the book doesn't work, you can always buy the tree! (I have done that too! {giggle})
