Review: Hemingway has produced a well written, well researched, and richly illustrated book which draws much needed attention to the 1920s-1950s and the Left. Now, thanks to Hemingway, instead of cursory summaries or straight out errors, we have a much more complete story of key issues in our culture.

Summary: outstanding art history and analysis
Review: Hemingway's book is terrific -a fine blend of art history and socio-political context, addressing their interrelation in a nuanced, sensitive fashion. And beautifully produced. I read it cover-to-cover which cannot be said of many coffee-table sized books on art.
