Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A sterling book.
Review: "Simple Style" is a sterling guide to creating a graceful and uncluttered home. Thankfully, Lisa Skolnik and Rima A Suqi don't cater to cold, minimalistic decorative ideas. For them, if a room--no matter how elegantly uncluttered--doesn't have warmth, something is missing. In concise and inviting prose, the authors detail the various way in which a room can be practical and welcoming, without being fussy. Their innovative ideas include allowing no single element (be it an elaborate bedstead or a tapestry-covered chair) to overwhelm a room, and using intricate architectual deails and subtle colors on furnishings to gracefully "tie" several items in a room together. Skolnik and Suqi cover every room in the house--from living room and kitchen to closet and home office. They even show you how porches, foyers, patios, and exterior doors can make stronger first impressions. The photographs are simply matchless. They are, at once, large, sharp, colorful, and instructive. And they fill every page in this thoroughly-laudable volume.
