Review: This is a beautiful book of photography. The original montage artist's works are currently on display (1/03)in a San Francisco gallary. This book provides a beautiful photo record. The montages (photos of the artist as a child, classical paintings, etc)combine the artist's past influences around his thoughts and experiences of life and death, war, homosexual repression and freedom, and Catholicism. Like Mappelthorpe, some of the creations are sexual/religious and initially shocking, while beautiful. The book explores the meaning. It is a great success.
