Summary: excellent material!!
Review: I find myself consulting this book more than Ansel Adams "The Print." The most in-depth source of information on lith printing I have ever seen. Excellent!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It is a great book especially for derkroom enthusiast
Review: I never knew before that a single book can improve onesphotographic and printing ability so much. In fact it is an essentialbook for every fine art photographer, Black & white printer and darkroom technician. It is worth mentioning that I am personally grateful to this book as it helped me a great deal in gaining my distinction Licentiate of Royal Photographic Society.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: The benchmark for beginners and Pro's.
Review: My first attempts in the darkroom were some 31 years ago and I purchased many, many books to discover the how and why of black and white printing. I still have all those books, BUT now that I have Tim Rudman's book in my new darkroom the others gather dust. This book is the benchmark for beginners and Pro's.
Thank you Amazon for making it available.

Summary: A good ongoing reference book
Review: My first impression when reading the "text" of this book is that Mr. Rudman clearly understands the various ways to impact the final result of an image from start to finish. It left me with much to think about and opened my head up to possiblities that I had not previously been aware of (much less tried). To that end I applaud Mr. Rudman.

The one thing that left me a little cold about the book is probably more a matter of taste on my part. I found the examples of the prints to be very heavy, grainy and dark. To be fair, this could have occurred in the reprinting of his work for the book but, for a professional, experience printer, unexceptable.

Summary: A Book for a person who wants to learn about BW Printing
Review: The book find useful for every photographer (or even a printer) to learn more about black and white processing and printing. The theory is little bit advanced but if you read again and again you will understand finally how it works. The photos are beautiful. Very very arty. I'm a black and white photographer and printer and this book is my holly bible.

Summary: excellent reference
Review: The only thing that I can find that might be seen as a negative about this book is that Tim seems to print a little darker than i like. Other than that this is without a doubt the best book on printing that I have ever read. From the first chapter on how to properly set up your enlarger through the back cover this book is all usefull. If you want to improve your printing skills this book is a must have! (...)

Summary: A useful guide to numerous darkroom techniques.
Review: The Photographer's Master Printing Course is a useful guide to many of the techniques utilized in the darkroom to produce black and white prints. The book describes a typical darkroom, negatives, and the presentation of prints, but the major emphasis is on printing. A strength of the book is the repeated use of comparison photographs which show the difference between "straight prints" and prints produced using some of the described techniques. Toning receives special attention. The book contains a number of hints wich should be of use even to those with darkroom experience

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: excellent material; examples are not so good
Review: This a great book where in-depth discussion of techniques is concerned. However, the photographic examples provided are less useful and not inspiring, hence 4 stars. The book has helped me greatly in the darkroom though with my techniques. For informing my aesthetic sense, I can think of better titles. I also recommend Larry Bartlett's Printing Workshop for B+W Photography to supplement this book.
