Summary: a "sleeper"--great fun!
Review: A copy of this book was given to me by a good friend from Portland. As I read through it, I found myself chuckling, both because of the wonderful photographs and the wry commentary. I was prepared to dislike the book, because I thought that a book about dogs might be too "cutesy". It was not. Instead, I loved it, have reread it several times, and have loaned it to several friends. Jeff Selis has a wonderful eye and a matching gift for understated writing which is perfect for this book. I hope we see more from Mr. Selis, and soon! Regardless of whether you enjoy watching dogs, or their owners, (or, I guess, neither) you will find this book to be a breath of fresh air.

Summary: Possibly The Best
Review: As the owner of my own dog walking company, and someone that it putting together a book of this kind on their own, I would like to give Mr. Jeff Selis a hug (and of course a run for his money, ha ha ha). This is a fabulous book. The pictures are great, and the text is just perfect. I laughed out loud and even got teary eyed a couple of times. I typically feel the bigger the better when it comes to photo books but this is the perfect size for what he's done. Of course we always love more more more, but I definitely feel like I got my money worth (which is definitely not always true). I own about every book of this kind there is (dog pics, with some kind of text) and truth be told, some are a real let down, even though there isn't a picture of a dog I don't adore, some have proven to be, maybe just too simple? Others show a lack of decision making skills (no, I like the descriptive words, no no, maybe quotes, no no wait, just throw it all in...) But so far in my collection, Jeff's book, Cat Spelled Backwards Doesn't Spell God, just overtook Shaff/Blount's If Only You Knew How Much I Smell You (also a good one), to sit in first place as my favorite. :)

Dear Jeff,

WELL DONE.

Summary: Two paws up - WAY UP- by a cat-owner!!!
Review: Having thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Selis' enchanting other book, "Dog Bless America", I was delighted to find this hidden gem. I found the dogs in this book to be every bit as adorable as the ones in his other book (Dog Bless America). I especially like the clever title. It took me a few seconds to do the math, but once I did, I HOWLED for two straight minutes! As a cat-owner(hi, Mittens!) I feel slightly guilty for having this book in my apartment. But in my heart, I believe even a cat would have a hard time not liking this wonderful, magical book!! God bless you, Jeff Selis, for your always-adorable dog pictures!

Summary: God, er, Dog is alive and well!
Review: I had the great pleasure of purchasing this book last year when it was still just a local release, and it quickly became one of my coffee table favorites! Jeff Selis has a marvelous eye as a photographer, having captured the various personalities of his canine subjects so perfectly, the extremely witty captions are hardly needed (though very welcome!) That all the photos were Polaroids is all the more amazing, for the professional yet spontaneous quality of the shots is unparalleled.

Cat Spelled Backward Doesn't Spell God is definitely a keeper for any dog lover, and might even convert a cat lover or two!

Encore Mr. Selis!

Summary: The Best Doggone Book
Review: I love this book! Jeff Selis has captured the personality of each and every dog in this book. I am not a dog owner but after having this book around I understand dog owners much better. I would recommend this book for anyone who has ever owned a dog, owns one now, or is thinking about owning a dog. It's also a great book for kids. They get to see all types of dogs. The book makes a great gift for yourself or anyone else.

Summary: a "sleeper"--great fun!
Review: My husband gave me Jeff Selis' book for our anniversary, and we read every page, AND the back 'word' from Otis. I have shared it with my family and my friends at work, and we all wish we had thought of photographing our dogs. But Jeff has taken wonderful pictures and put great captions with them. It is a truly enjoyable book, and you will love every single dog in it! Thank you Jeff. Amen

Summary: The Ultimate Tribute to Dogs
Review: No pictures of dogs wearing stupid hats or sunglasses, just wonderful photos and stories about real, marvelous dogs. I just purchased a fourth copy of this wonderful book to give as a gift to another dog-loving friend. Mr. Selis has captured each dog at its finest and luckily for us, he has shared them. Unlike other dog photography books, I read this one often. Thank you, Jeff.

Summary: The Yearbook for the High School You'll Wish You'd Gone To
Review: This book is funny, wise, compassionate, and sweet. Sellis loves dogs, but he loves people, too. His photography is terrific and you learn just enough about Jeff Sellis to know you want him to keep up the good work. How he gets these great (not cutesy) shots, I do not know. He's gifted, I guess. Some of the dogs were rescued, there is a hospice therapy dog, and assorted other good dogs in this book. Some spoiled ones, some slackers, some clever and funny, too. Really, it's a lot like high school - only much, much better.
