Rating: Summary: A really great contemporary architect Review: Hopkins' work is a joy to behold. He combines all the skills of a truly contemporary architect with an interest in new technologies and materials as well as a deep knowledge and appreciation of traditional construction and history. His practice has produced some powerful contextual work such as the Parliament Building in London, the Inland Revenue Buildings in Nottingham as well as amazingly elegant work like the Earth Centre in Edinburgh and the Schlumberger buildings in Cambridge. The work is timeless. The book is a beautiful compendium of projects and is lavishly illustrated as well as having some interesting essays by Colin Davies as a well as an interview with Michael Hopkins himself.
