Rating: Summary: Step by step instuctions! Review: I bought this book and have now completed many of the first drawing exercises. The book starts at the basics with what supplies you need and then shows you how to use them. This book was just what I needed! She shows you how to use grids, how to shade, how to do line drawings, how to add texture and more. But you start out with baby steps so you aren't overwhelmed and work your way up to the harder stuff. THere are many exercises and techniques to practice, she supplies the paper in the book and a sample to look at too. The only thing about the book is she does really kind of push buying her supplies from her website, which is fine I guess. Especially if you don't know anything about which brands are quality and which are cheap, which I didn't. I did actually just purchase some of her companion videos but haven't received them yet and I can't wait to get them.

Rating: Summary: Wonderful How- To process Review: I bought this book and have spent hours with it. In literally 2 hours I went from near stick figure drawing to duplicating complex and beautifully executed likenesses of Sandra's original drawings. It's like the "drawing fairy" has come to live within me. I love the process that Sandra teaches and I love what I'm able to do with it.
Rating: Summary: Still can't draw Review: I bought this book because of the title but it has not helped me draw any better. All the exercises are NOT for beginners. This book misleads with it's title. I learned more from other drawing books.
Rating: Summary: True but Difficult Review: I have Had This book for over 5 months and yet have seen no improvment in my drawing.
I cant even draw a straight line, and this book didnt help with my crooked line.
What im saying is that this book is more for people who have some drawing skills.I recommend a real live tutor.visuals are better than words
Rating: Summary: Washington Post issues rave review. Review: Martie Zad, the critic at the Washington Post said it best, 'Simple steps that make drawing easy... Sandra Angelo says she can teach art to people who can't even draw a straight line, those whose efforts never even made it to Mom's refrigerator door. She has put her methods on four videos and into a book, So You Thought You Couldn't Draw™. Last month she appeared on HGTV,' (ABC, Discovery Channel & TNN) 'demonstrating how in just 6 or 8 weeks people who were drawing like 6-year-olds at first are producing life-like artistic renderings by following the methods outline in her videos and book... Angelo is a Rhode Island Schools of Design Fellowship Award winner, a portrait artist and author of numerous books and producer of videos." My goal is to be a catalyst who develops untapped creative potential in people who think they can't even draw a straight line. If you've always wanted to draw but thought you had to be born with talent, I have good news. I've developed a unique step-by-step collection of videos and a companion book titled, So You Thought You Couldn't Draw™. Why videos... because my students told me that it looked easy when I demonstrated but when they got home, they couldn't remember the techniques. With a video, you can attend an art class without leaving your easy chair. And, unlike an art class, if you don't understand the demo, you can rewind it. You'll be amazed how quickly you can learn to draw. Your book will contain many of the same drawings which are shown on the videos, so you can draw right along with me. And, if you don't have the videos, you don't need to worry. The book is self-contained. Many folks have learned by simply following the step-by-step instructions in the workbook. And there is more good news. You're not a guinea pig. This method has been working for thousands of people for the past 9 years. Drawing skills are so basic to art that once you learn to draw, you can plunge fearlessly into any art media. Finally, you'll LOVE the therupeutic value of art. There's no better way to relax, whether you're lounging at home, trapped at an airport or beside a gurgling stream. You can take drawing with you. Teachers will be happy to know that this system has received 'Highly Recommended' ratings from Video Librarian, Booklist, Midwest Book Review, Seattle Times, Washington Post, and many more as well as a nomination for an Emmy, First Place WAVE Award, Videographer Award of Excellence, and was recently adopted by over 100 art teachers as part of the official curriculum for the San Diego County Schools.
Rating: Summary: Be wary of buying these products Review: My 73 year old mother called the phone number listed on Ms. Angelo's website to order a product after having troubles with Ms. Angelo's poorly-designed on-line order form. The person who answered the phone SCREAMED at her "Do you know it's 8:00 a.m. in San Diego? Call back later". Obviously, Ms. Angelo has issues she needs to resolve, and should consider whether or not she is suited to be in a public service business.
Rating: Summary: The real stuff. Review: Sandra Angelo has real knowledge and talent for teaching drawing. I read the book through, and I'm on my 7th exercise drawing. She knows how to teach the basics, one step at a time. Drawing is not easy, you will have to work.
Rating: Summary: What it says!!! Review: What better review can one give than to say this book delivers what it says. The methods are straight forward and simple and they do help those who can't draw a straight line. Most art books are written for a visual-learning person and a person who learned to draw as a kid--this book isn't! Although I often overanalyze things this books actually got me drawing in a painless way. I may not become a professional artist but I now have an enjoyable new skill.
