Summary: War Stories
Review: Saving Private Ryan is a stunning piece of cinema from the filmography of director Steven Spielberg. I saw the movie twice during its initial theatrical release. Like many other moviegoers, I was struck by its realistic, and unflinching battle sequences, particularly the recreation of the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach at the start of the film. Not since Oliver Stone's Platoon has a film about war made me marvel at the bravery of these men.

Rather than be a straight forward narrative on how the film was made, the companion book features great photographs on the production, by David James, that do most of the talking. There are comments from Spielberg, the cast, crew, as well as, screenplay excerpts, historical facts, and few words by Stephen E. Ambrose among others. The photos though, ARE the reason to buy this book...the images leap off the pages. The layout allows for maximum impact--this is a fine companion to the film and well worth a look. The 96 page book is recommended.

Summary: A book to compliment a video masterpiece.
Review: Saving Private Ryan is purely unique. The movie itself was breathtaking, making you wake up and realize that these people, mere teenagers, were risking all they ever knew to rid the world of the Nazi terror. It blew me away to think that this really happened in our world, that we could kill our brothers without knowing why. This book is truely a great companion to the film. It gives you the little things you may have missed while watching the movie, and helps you understand the movie better. I reccommend this book to the Saving Private Ryan enthusiast, and to anyone who wants to know more about this period in history. I congratulate the makers of the film and the writers of the book for helping the world to remember the events and tragedies of the Second World War. I pray that through great accomplishments like these masterpieces, we shall not forget how lucky we really are and how important it is for this not to happen again, for the good of all mankind.

Summary: A cheap mistake of a top director
Review: Spielburg made a cheap mistake in this award hunting movie. After the battle which killed the black guy in the rain and find a wrong ryan, before the battle of ryda station,THERE WERE STILL 8 SOLDIERS WALKING THROUGH THE SCREEN! If this sort of mistake was made by someone else, its not so bad.But with spielburg, just become a shame. He look like too desporate to win the award, maybe before that he should think about improve his working atitude.

Summary: It is so real...........
Review: The book and movie are so real that you'd believe they are real live. How Spielberg made it? Tracers flashed on the breach, bullets shot into sea water,........., the scenes are just so true! If you experienced any real gun combat, you know what I mean. I won't use the word "beautiful" to describe the book and the move, war isn't beautiful, killing or being killed is not fun. But the book and move are wonderful! I did not feel comfortable when I stepped out from cinema but I like the book so much that it can remind me how good the movie was.

Summary: Exquisite photography,gripping subject matter,informative .
Review: The subject matter is gripping and educational, made even more impressive by the extraordinary photographs .The quotes and comments make this a fascinating read and the quality of the archive-like photography taken during shooting of the movie brings the realities and horrors of WWII very clearly into our consciousness. These photos and writings in no way glamorize or' Hollywoodize' the subject matter, they are a moving tribute to all those that made the ultimate sacrifice on the beahes of Normany and in the trenches.

Summary: A must for all "Saving Private Ryan" and Tom Hanks fans.
Review: This beautiful coffee-table companion is a must for anyone who has seen, and appreciates, Spielberg's superb film. The book chronicles the making of the movie from boot camp, to the construction of Ramelle, to the actual shoot. The behind the scenes photos and interviews with various actors and crew members only serve to enrich what is a truly amazing film-going experience.

Summary: A good companion piece to the movie
Review: This book was just as I expected it to be a behind the scenes look at a very intense movie. The photos are spectacular and the narrative very informative. My only complain is there is not enough of either. It left me wanting more. Maybe that is what a good book is supposed to do but I still had unanswered question concerning how the movie was made. I love those production stories full of little details of how they did it, what went wrong and how they made it all work somehow. Was it worth the price, yes but I would have paid more to get more.

Summary: The reality that war brings, how it effects our lives.
Review: This movie was one that I was not able to watch completely the first time, but rather had to keep coming back to it because of the reality was what war is really about. It was so dramatic and real that I will never look at war in the same prespective, but rather as something we should never go into again, in any shape or form. Too many lives were lost and not enough was done for the war veterans that returned. They should have held a place right next to the President of the United States, because if they had not fought, we would not be enjoying the type of liberty we have today.
