Rating: Summary: It's all so simple... Review: Good cover, nice photos and is beautiful for his simplicity but if you are expecting something more, like make-up techniques and "how to do it", think twice before you buy it. I expected simplicity, but not too much...!
Rating: Summary: Artful and Intimate Review: In Beauty Flash, Stephane Marais gives us a rare and intimate glimpse of some of the world's most beautiful faces, through the lens of his polaroid, as only he could show us. 15 years of shooting at close range before the runway shows and between magazine shoots have culminated in this beautiful volume, which features just about every top model you can think of in the last decade (at least the ones I could think of), including Linda Evangelista (one of the people to whom the book is dedicated), Amber Valetta, Shalom Harlow, Christy Turlington, Nadja Auermann, Naomi Campbell, Angela Lindvall, Carmen Kass, Erin O' Connor, and Kristen McMenamy, just to name a few.Not surprisingly, some of the most interesting pictures were taken at the runway shows of John Galliano, for whom Marais has provided some stunningly beautiful and downright bizarre looks. The degree of this oddity is really apparent at close range, and for me, that is a big part of the appeal of this book. The only complaint that I can think of is that there is NO text whatsoever. A little explanatory paragraph here and there would have been a nice addition, but possibly he thought that the photographs speak for themselves. A small pullout section is included, which features some nice alternate shots. Beauty Flash shows that Stephane Marais has a unique perspective and attention to detail that will keep you turning the pages with delight!
