Rating: Summary: Comments on Typography Now Review: Although the examples of the new design in type seem "far out," this book is a must-have for any serious designer who doesn't want to be left behind in the world of 21st century design.
Rating: Summary: Comments on Typography Now Review: I would like to comment on Typography Now, a book which showcases some examples of contemporary typographic design works. It is not easy to rate this book: when I first saw it a few years ago, I considered it to be excellent, but now I have to say it1s kind of average. I'm not saying that the author or the editor did not do a good job, it's just because that type of design seems a bit boring nowaday: layering type, shapes, PhotoShop effects and all that...all these have become a kind of visual cliche now, many young designers are doing very similar type of design and not knowing anything behind it, that's a problem. When you've seen enough works like this, you'll be amazed by the fact that the best examples of this type of design, are still the works done by designers such as Wolfgang Weinghart, Willi Kunz, Odermatt & Tissi...their works still stand even in today's design field. Fortunately Typography Now has featured some really good young talents such as 8vo, Philippe Apeloig and Mark Farrow. It is hard to avoid being trendy now, design writers/journalists tend to go after the "new" but not the basic quality, this is a fault that Typography Now has also made.
Rating: Summary: An Automotive Gallery of Masterpieces Review: This 1993 Könemann book (text by Hartmut Lehbrink) presents a photographic history of sports cars. It is by no means an exhaustive encyclopædia of sports cars; nor is it a list of the most important, fastest or most beautiful sports cars of the period. Nevertheless each of the 227 cars lovingly photographed and researched is in some way a classic. Both the photography and histories are excellent, detailed and honest (pointing out the shortcomings of each). At least 2 pages are devoted to each car, one large photo page to each page with history and data (and more photos). This is no pocket guide either, but a very large book, both in the number (467) and size (nearly 10½"x12") of the pages. Altogether a superb book, and well worth the expense.

Rating: Summary: Buy it! Review: This book is basically a guide to "new experimental typography". A bit of intro by the author and the rest are just pictures. But don't get me wrong. I know I said it casually but after viewing (I can't say reading when it comes to pictures, can I?) the content of this book, my head almost burst! So many ideas suddenly popped up!This book however does not teach you how to create great designs, or how great designs are created. It doesn't tell you the rules of typography etc. All it does is showing you the designs related to typography by some designers. If you're looking for ideas, this is the book for you.
