Summary: This book: Excellent!
Review: After reading the reviews of some of the others, I felt compelled to write. I think this is a wonderful book. The projects are interesting and creative. It is my opinion that a book like this is not intended to be copied, but to spur our imagination. After reading the instructions, we should be able to (and have the desire to) create one of our own masterpieces. Personally, I do not want something just like another artist created. Maybe the exact stamp an artist used was not given--but dig out your own stamps and get going! Make each project your own.

This book is a must have! Every stamp artist should read it and unleash their own creativity!

Summary: The Stamp Artist's Project Book
Review: As a librarian, rubber arts teacher, and faithful reader of Miller's publication Somerset Studios, I eagerly awaited publication of this title. Indeed, there are some beautiful projects with innovative designs and fascinating materials. However that are some serious flaws with this book. Many of the photographs are hazy and difficult to view. I was especially interested in the trading cards project on page 53, sadly 4 of the 5 designs are out of focus and unviewable. Instructions for many of the projects are too brief and assume a sophistication of technique that many readers may not possess. The artistamps project on page 51 does not detail in real terms how to make the necessary acetate template, nor does it mention that a pre-fabricated template/perforated blank postage kit is available for purchase from a stamp retailer; information many readers would find helpful. Lastly, readers will also find the art stamps credit page frustrating because it does not detail specfically what stamps were used in each project from the companies listed. At the very least the names of the stamps should have been listed. A great book for inspiration and ideas but look elsewhere for practical hands-on project instruction for the beginning paper arts enthusiast.

Summary: A MUST-HAVE for the beginner, and added value to the more ..
Review: experienced stamper...this book has it all...lots of techniques, basic info, and everything in between. If you're VERY experienced, you've probably seen it all, but if you're like me, somewhat in the beginning but past the start enuf to be intrigued by more interesting looks and techniques, this book is definitely for you. The projects are great, and can easily be translated to other projects/stamps/media...

Summary: lots of fun gift ideas
Review: I must admit, while I am vegetarian, I had never thought to use vegetables or fruits as stamps. I haven't tried this yet but that's one of the first projects in the book and the next time I have leftovers from a salad I'll certainly try this out. This is a really neat book. Other ideas for things to use as stamps include packing noodles, and those pop-up sponges that expand when you add water. There are some really great projects in here that can be made for gifts - like using rubber stamps to decorate candles, stamping on fabric for table cloths, or decorating clay pots and candle holders. The projects are all quite pretty but none are intimidating. I've tried a bunch of them - like stamping on ribbons as well as paper crafts like making post cards and gift bags. A great collection with really easy to follow instructions and tips. The photos are great too.

Review: I really appreciate the work that Sharilyn Miller does as an Editor in two of my favorite magazines and she takes her skill to a refined level in this book. I like the photo layouts, the basic instructions and the range of projects. I do not like to be told every minute detail of how to accomplish a project - Sharilyn does not do that in her books - she leaves enough room for you to add your own touches. This book needs to be on every shelf of art stampers who love good books - ones that stimulate the creative juices!
