Rating: Summary: watercolor for the serious beginner Review: I have just joined up with AMAZON and am so excited about the selection of art technique books. I teach in the water medium and own many of the books listed. There is one review I would like to add and that is "Watercolor for The Serious Beginner",by Mary Whyte, 1997. The title sounds simple, however there is a a wealth of info for the students as well as accomplished artists. It is far from the basic of basics, which we all need periodically. I have viewed Mary's watercolors at a gallery in Charleston, S.Carolina. The paintings place you in there settings of great nostalgic memories and personalities. You would like to visit with Mary and tell her you, too, have been there. Mary shares all of her w/c knowledge in this book, and has been published in American Artist Watercolor as well a monthly publication, focusing on portraiture. Her still life ptgs. in the book are equally as instructional again and again.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites! Review: This is a comprehensive book well worth your time and money. I especially like the instructional step-by-step color demonstrations which include still life, landscape, and figures and portraits.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Intro Review: This is an excellent introduction for the beginner. I also love her art. Other excellent, but more advanced, books are "The Art of Watercolor" by Charles Le Clair and "The Watercolorists Essential Notebook" by Gordon MacKenzie.
