Summary: Madonna Like You've Never Seen Her Before
Review: Now out-of-print, Madonna's "Sex," book was one of the 1990's greatest hypes due to its' graphic depiction of sex. Where else can you see Madonna strutting down Miami Beach with Vanilla Ice naked, or see her making out with such celebrities as Isabella Rossellini and Naomi Campbell?

The book, which was bounded in an orginal format involving two sheets of metal, each numbered, and sealed in a Mylar plastic sleeve is genius. Although it is a book that is highly likely to cause airport security to open your bags, Madonna must have had a reason to do something so creative, yet so risque.

Truly, "Sex" remains a classic due to its main goal of reopening the sexual revolution in the evangelicalism the 1990's brought. Homosexuality, lesbianism, and fetishes were all somewhat taboos to be discussed or shown in public, however nowadays attitudes have changed. In some ways, Madonna was a pioneer, and as so, she deserves credit for being the most outrageous, daring woman of the 20th century.

Summary: 10 years later, can you believe this was ever controversial?
Review: Since the publication of this book we have been treated to many high profile and explicit sexual scandals. Our national attitude toward sex has changed. What a difference a decade (come this October) can make! Published today, we would hardly blink an eye. I mention the controversy because, though this book is titled "Sex," it is the 'controversy' it caused that is most memorable. I consider this book to be something of a footnote, a relic, to an era when the USA was silly enough to be offended by the sight of a naked woman we had already seen naked several times before.

"I'm not your *****," Madonna says in her song HUMAN NATURE (from the album BEDTIME STORIES) in response to the controversy this book caused; what she meant by that is that she has the right to do whatever she wants and doesn't owe anyone an explanation or justification for what she does. She doesn't need you. This very forthright attitude, very commendable in my opinion, is precisely what makes this book something of a snore. Madonna missed the whole point of "erotica" - that it NEEDS the approval of the reader. The point of erotica is to live out the fantasies of the reader, not to watch the writer live out her OWN fantasies. "I may be dressing like the typical bimbo, whatever, but I'm in charge," Madonna once said. And that comes clearly into focus in this book, that Madonna is in charge. And that is also why this book is completely un-interesting from an erotic standpoint: because everything in this book is completely under Madonna's supervision and there is no trace of vulnerability anywhere. You never get the feeling that Madonna is taking a risk. What's more, she doesn't regret having done this book and never caved to the public condemnation; and regret and remorse can be so inviting.

That, more than anything, I believe was the cause of the outrage among so many regarding this book: that Madonna was not doing it for us. Contrary to promises and come-ons, she was doing this for herself. With this book she threw a party and didn't invite us, rather, we had to pay to stand on the corner and catch a glimpse of her as she walked the red carpet to the party's entrance. The anger we felt toward Madonna may not have been that she was expressing herself sexually, but that she didn't need our help in such expression. We didn't want to oppress her sexual expression; we wanted to join in it.

In PLEASE UNDERSTAND ME II, David Kiersey argues that the Artisan temperament, of which many believe Madonna to be, is the temperament that feels most comfortable in their own bodies. And that is precisely what you get in this book, artfully photographed pictures of Madonna being comfortable in her own body, and comfortable with others' bodies. Buy this book if you want just that: pictures of Madonna being comfortable being Madonna. But beware, if you go into this venture thinking that Madonna needs you to make the sexual rendezvous ultimate, you will be left feeling disappointed and cold . . . as cold as the metal covers that easily fall off due to the lousy spiral binding.

Summary: EROTICA,SEX AND ROMANCE!
Review: That just about sums up the content of this book. Its just a shame that it has taken some people this long to realise what a true work of art this book really is. Even the most controversial scenes are works of art. I think that she looks best in the picture where she is leaning over a wall with vanilla ice leaning behind her, also the one where she is lying back (topless) on a sheepskin rug smoking a ciggarette,oh yes, and who could forget the famous scene where she is hitch-hiking in the nude with only a cigarette and handbag as her fashion accessories! PURE CLASS! The only fault which i could pick would be the the magazine thing at the end which i found a bit tacky! but hey, it made me laugh. Theres no doubt that madonna is the undisputed diva of the nineties! Who else could create so much controversy with one book? Of all the derogatory things which have been said about madonna for doing this, it all goes to show just how two-faced society really is! TRUE GIRL POWER!- YOU GO GIRL!

Summary: Madonna having sex....again!
Review: The 1990's saw a rise in strong and prominent roles for women in movies. Actresses - I use the term generically - in Hollywood have strived for recognition for their Art since movies began. Contirbuting to this phenomenon Queen of Pop and ambiguity, Madonna made her mark (and contribution) as only she could, never to be forgotten. Sex is an excellent effort in which Pop's Virgin Queen expresses herself, her art and basically shakes her thang (all over the USA - apologies to the folks in Florida for walking the streets in her Birthday Suit!). Controversial, sexy, mysterious and fun.Following the trials and tribulations of narrator(ess), Dita who certainly knows how to entertain others and herself, when the mood takes her. Delve into the world of this complex character and I'm sure you'll let yourself go wild...let your mouth go where it wants to! This book should not be forgotten, a must for all Madonna fans both past and more importantly, present.

Summary: great sex book
Review: This book really opened my eyes up to sex and the endless possibilities there are. I really had a lot of fun reading it. It's too bad that it's out of print. Madonna really knows how to demystify things.

Summary: My Name Is Dita . . .
Review: This book sold 11 million copies or something of the sort and was printed one time, so if you can get a copy, grab it because it is a geat book. I was disapointed by the fact Vanilla ice didn't have the guts to bare anything in a sex book . . but life goes on. The book could have been more erotic, more sexy. It's not very personal, so don't expect to get confessions from madonna in it either. I wonder was her two kids would think if one day they found the tin covered book in mommy's room and started looking . . . what would madonna say to her kids? "Honey, mommy doesn't usually sit on a top of a mirror and look at her privates or pet doggies naked, or hitch hikle nude on the free way, and I only put a harness on that guy once and no that was very innocent when mommy shaved that guys . . ." I would pay money to see that!

Summary: ..."inviting and titilating"...
Review: What a team....Madonna & Stephen Meisel. Who would have thought that putting the most famous woman in the world together with one of the top photographers in the country would bring forth a phenomenal, gratifying, "sexsational" picture book. Madonna plays various roles as she is dominating, being dominated and just having a ball with exploring the world of fantasy and pleasure. In this book Madonna brings forward all types of fantasies that the general public would rather put under the rug and not talk about. That's the key to Madonna's success with this book. Madonna wants you to see what goes on and what exists, she's not afraid and rises above. Madonna puts herself in vulnerable and steamy situations as part of her fantasy. The letters she writes as the narrator of the book, "Dita Parlow" are eye-catching and satisfying. Madonna falls into the character and delivers a sensational literary work. The CD is also very erotic and sex-drenched to go along with the theme
