Summary: The Cream of the Crop
Review: I own every bird photgraphy book that Amazon lists and this is by far the most useful - and I say that even though I am a Nikon photographer. Beyond the basics, Morris emphasizes exposure, sharpness, composition. He is a good teacher. Moreover, he walks the talk. If you put all the bird photography books on a table and just looked at the pictures, Morris's photos would stand out from the rest in every respect: sharpness, "snap", color balance, compostion, and the sense that they were captured at the critical moment.

A warning to all you digital photographers! Morris shoots film. When you see what he achieves with it, you will be tempted to take your old film body out of the closet and phone New York for a rush order of 20 cartridges of Fuji Velvia.

Summary: Among the very best nature photography books
Review: I purchased this book as soon as it was published. I still go back to read it every now and then. A true motivator. You feel you are talking to your mentor all the time. Art Morris describes how he tauhgt in elementary school for decades and then how he mustered the courage (and money) to buy a used Canon FD 800mm lens and then how he was overawed by it. You read on and realise this is exactly what you always wanted to do.

Great text, great tips, unashamedly brand-specific (Canon), great commentary. You must own this book.

Summary: A Classic !
Review: If you only ever read one book about bird photography, then let it be this one.

I have many wildlife photography books in my library, but this is the one that I refer to time and time again.

Arthur Morris covers everything from equipment, lighting and composition to exposure.

Highly recommended. Please visit his website at [URL] for a wealth of information. Arthur Morris also now provides a 'pocket guide to exposure', details of which are on the website. It is a real gem.

Summary: Really Good Stuff
Review: Starting out into the world of photographing birds? This is a book that will really help you. I have read it a number of times cover to cover. And even while it is bulky, I have taken it on trips to read the night before I went out. Lots of tips and well written.

Summary: Best bird photography book ever!!
Review: This book almost made me quit bird photography. Not ever will I consistently produce pictures of the standard Arthur Morris presents in this book. The pictures alone make this book worthwhile. The author gives pro advice on technique, composition, framing and much more. He writes well, and I particularly find the advice about exposure and equipment useful. (May I forgive him for beeing such a Canon fanatic.)

Summary: Stunning book by a true expert
Review: This book is an outstanding book, both on photography itself as well as bird photography.

Art Morris takes a difficult subject and makes it much more approachable for the beginner. What is best and most valuable is the section on exposure as well as learning the various habits of your subjects.

I had the chance to meet Art Morris here in Austin a few weeks ago at the 2000 NANPA Summit.

There is no doubt that Art is the master of his "art", and it shows with the pictures in the book.

Yes, he is very brand specific, but so is Moose Peterson (Nikon), Art Wolfe (Canon) Frans Lanting (Nikon), and the list goes on. Any of the great nature photographers are very specific about the brands that they shoot.

So whether or not you shoot Nikon, Canon, or whatever else, you can learn a great deal about photography, birding, and still enjoy some stunning photographs!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Summary: Can't stop reading it.
Review: This is a great book for those interested in bird photography. I have read parts of it over and over (especially the chapter on exposure) and each time I learn something new. It is full of great pictures each captioned with details of the shoot. The author has an obvious passion for his work and that shows in this book. As others have stated, it is a very pro-Canon presentaton. I don't think that this should affect its usefulness to non-Canon photographers much, but I can not say for sure as I am a Canon user myself.
