Summary: Great stuff
Review: After reading previous reviews, I was a little chagrined when my book arrived and it was so thin, but after reading it, my reservations were gone. Of course, the photography was stunning; In addition to being an excellent technical manual, the book would be great as a "coffee table" book. The information was well presented and thorough. On the issue of "bias" toward Canon equipment, Morris is up front regarding his Canon contract, but does not hesitate to point out some features that other makers make available, but Canon lacks. My only resevation with book is a dearth of information on filters; Other than that, this book is an *excellent* primer on bird (and nature, in general,) photography. Well worth the money; I'm sure I will refer to this book many times in the future.

Summary: The best book on bird photography ever published.
Review: Arthur Morris is by far the worlds leading bird photographer. It is almost impossible to pick up a recent book on birds that doesn't have his name heavily credited. This book lives up to the expectations that we have from Arthur Morris. It is beautifully printed and most informative. I would suggest that anyone who is interested in bird photography buy this book along with Mr. Morris' manual, "Bird Photography-Pure and simple," and read both of them thoroughly.

Summary: The bible for all bird photographers!
Review: As an experienced, professional photographer trying to break into wildlife photography, I was fortunate to come across Arthur Morris' book at the North American Nature Photography Association Summit bookstore. It answered all my questions about the lighting, exposure, "stalking" and composition of wild birds.

Most importantly, this book's language appeals to amateurs and professionals alike. Art doesn't "talk down" to his audience, and writes frankly about his own mistakes and urges his readers to make their own decisions based on his own experiences.

This book has dramatically improved my shooting technique, whether I'm photographing birds, people, still-lifes or scenics.

Arthur Morris, by the way, his highly-regarded by his peers, and is an active member of NANPA, the world's foremost organization of nature photographers. He definitely knows what he's talking about!

Happy Reading and Shooting!

Summary: An Instant Classic
Review: Bird photographers of all skill levels will benefit from reading The Art of Bird Photography. As a beginner, it is the first photography book that I ever purchased. Today it remains, by far, the most valuable. In the book, Mr. Morris covers everything from the fundamentals of making technically perfect photographs, to how he creates his stunning compositions, complete with the crisp, clean "Birds as Art" backgrounds for which he is famous. After purchasing and devouring the technical sections of this book, my photography was transformed nearly overnight. It is a must read for anyone interested in improving their photography whether they specialize in birds or bears.

Summary: Outstanding reference text
Review: By far, the best reference text I have ever found on the topic. It may be a little dated with the film equipment bias. Also there is bias toward Canon products (noted by the author). However he appropriately shows that effort and tenacity are key ingredients, not choice of equipment manufacturer. If I could have only one text on wildlife photography, this would be the one.

Summary: A great book, full of concrete guides to better photos.
Review: Dittos to what Milton Heiberg wrote. Morris is the most innovative bird photographer I know, and in this book he shares in great detail how he uses his equipment to get great images. When to autofocus, and when not. When to use a single sensor, and when not. How to speed up autofocusing. Different techniques for different situations. Specific advice for specific camera bodies, both Canon and Nikon, and honest assessments of their relative strengths. And much, much more. Plus, a chance to see some fantastic images not previously published, along with old favorites. A great book for anyone who wants to take better bird or other wildlife photos, as the same techniques apply.

Summary: this book has advanced my photography more than any other.
Review: I have been shooting photos for almost 50 years and thought that I had learned most of what there was to know. This book, and Arthur Morris, opened my eyes to many otherwise unknown areas. This is the ultimate coffetable "art" book that uses the photos to teach, not just entertain. The book is written by a professional educator who's first goal is to communicate. The information that is conveyed is understandable, by both the novice as well as the professional. It is a honest book, giving proven methods, not just theory. It is not written from an ivy cloisterd hall but from the field where Artie practices and learns every day. After reading the book I got the opportunity to meet the man. He stands far above his peers in my opinion. In my rows and rows of books on photography, this one gets used!!

Summary: Required readng, excellent? This guy knows his stuff!
Review: I have read McDonald, Shaw, Wolfe, Lepp, etc. They are great, but when it comes to bird photogrpahy this guy is the man. I have read 30+ books on nature photography, and Morris still can show me tips I didn't know. An excellent book!

Summary: The Cream of the Crop
Review: I own every bird photgraphy book that Amazon lists and this is by far the most useful - and I say that even though I am a Nikon photographer. Beyond the basics, Morris emphasizes exposure, sharpness, composition. He is a good teacher. Moreover, he walks the talk. If you put all the bird photography books on a table and just looked at the pictures, Morris's photos would stand out from the rest in every respect: sharpness, "snap", color balance, compostion, and the sense that they were captured at the critical moment.

A warning to all you digital photographers! Morris shoots film. When you see what he achieves with it, you will be tempted to take your old film body out of the closet and phone New York for a rush order of 20 cartridges of Fuji Velvia.
