Summary: Help for the fashion-impaired
Review: I found this book to be timeless and extremely helpful, not at all trendy. Unlike the fashion mags which are outdated one week after they go on sale, this book gives tips on how to build a year-round wardrobe from the ground up, with basic, timeless fashions and advice on how to coordinate tops, bottoms, shoes. It is a big help for those of us who are shopping addicts and tend to buy trendy clothes and accessories only to find we don't have a thing to wear 4 months later. Also try "Dressing For Occasions", another Chic Simple book. I would not recommend this for fashionistas in the big cities or women with an interest in lots of inexpensive trendy up-to-the-minute items.

Summary: This should be your clothing bible.
Review: I have looked for years for a definitive guide to building a wardrobe of chic, classic clothes. This is it. I sew most of my clothing, and this has been a wonderful guide and inspiration for me. I took the good basic pieces I had in my closet and have slowly added to them using the authors' wonderful advice. I now have a beautiful wardrobe, I look sophisticated and polished, now matter what the occasion, and I never look into my closet any more and think "I have nothing to wear". It has even helped me find just the right accessories to go with my beautiful clothes. I would recommend this book to sewers and non-sewers alike. It can make a real difference in the way you look, and eventually, the way you feel about yourself. I am much more confident when I know I look great!

Summary: For absolute beginners with a sizable budget.
Review: I rate a fashion reference book by the number of times I've actually referenced it. Including the initial read, I've referenced this book once since.

If you are an absolute fashion beginner (with little or no existing wardrobe to build upon) with a sizable budget, get this book. The pictures are fabulous, and the cuts and styles are basic enough to find even today -- among finer designers.

If not, skip it.

Summary: Great photos, need more ideas...
Review: I thought that the photos were great. I thought the text was very odd. The font sizes jumped all around and seemed to consume a page that could have been half used to illustrate the point instead of +20 font size. Artsy is fine. But if I want to get the simple idea, I want it simple -- not 'dressed' up.

When I think of a wardrobe, I think of work. So I didn't want to go into jeans too much. But I will check out Dress Smart and see if that complements this book well.

I did find the 'where' list in the back very helpful. I can visit the places and see what quality is and then shop around to find the best price.

Summary: Can't stop looking at this book! The best looks!
Review: I used to just have a jumble of clothes-with few outfits and nothing to wear! This book helps you pull together peices for a rich, classic, long lasting look. The photos are beautiful and the clothes are magnificent (and expensive!) but once you see the look you'll be able to reproduce it at your own budget. It also offers plent of information to help you recognize quality clothes and accesories. After reading this book, I threw out half my closet and began to build a timeless, upscale wardrobe!

Summary: An incredible resource for fashion-conscious folk!
Review: Love it, love it, love it! Got it for xmas in '98-- keep it on my nightstand-- and look at it for inspiration! Would love it even more if it just contained picture after picture of combinations! With spring ahead, I'm ready to clean out my closet, give my old stuff to charity and simplify my wardrobe with their classic ideas. Great stuff!!!

Summary: Chic , Simple, and Useful
Review: Not only does the book help women find basic ways of dressing fashionably for the moment, but the advice has a sound sensibility that should last well into the future. I most apppreciate the glossary section which explains what every fabric, and fashion style is . Quite educational for those of us who wouldn't have a clue what the terms surplice or boucle' mean.

Summary: Excellent, elegant, must have for any woman
Review: Okay, I admit I was attracted to the design of this book (very '90s yuppie bare) before I was to the content. Surprisingly simple and common sensical, Women's Wardrobe is -just- the resource I've been looking for. It doesn't pretend to educate the reader on current fashion trends, or even give strictures on what to wear. Instead, it offers an elegant, brief explanation on the multitude of aspects that make up that animal rarely seen these days: style. It's a pleasant, amusing read, with loads of good information. Like I said, a must have for any woman.

Summary: I liked this book so much but..
Review: Please do not recycle same items(accessories & clothes)on your other publications.

Summary: For lovers of quotes, not clothes
Review: Simple, o.k., but where's the chic? Huge print fills pages with all kinds of quotations about clothes, but the combinations suggested are anything but inspiring. Your Mom knows all this from years of dressing experience, so buy her some flowers, take her to tea and ask her for her advice, instead of getting yourself this dust collector.
