Rating: Summary: I laughed and cried as I read this incredible book! Review: This book takes you through the life and dreams of a man whom I believe was a genius, Jonathan Larson. There are tons of amazing quotes from him and those close to him . This book gave me a chance to learn even more about my absolute favorite musical, and it felt like I almost got to know Jonathan Larson. The large pictures of cast members performing each song in the libretto make it easier to explain the plot to friends. I seriously cried when reading about how Jonathan Larson died and everyone's reactions to his death. Overall, this is an awesome piece of literature for any Renthead or musical theater fan. NO DAY BUT TODAY!!!!
Rating: Summary: RENT it, buy it, just get it. Review: I've been a fan of RENT since the day a friend played the soundtrack for me. I adore the play, and when I got ahold of the book, I adored it even more. I finally realized how much work was really put into getting RENT out to the audience. I was especially pleased to see that no one thought they had to be extra nice when speaking of Jonathan Larson. They admitted he was pushy and demanding when it came to adjusting the play. I was glad to see that he was so committed to his vision that he fought to keep it as close as he could to what he wanted. At the same time, there are moments of plain sweetness to be seen. The pictures are wonderful. Including the note Jonathan wrote his father when he quit his job, and the shots from the stage. The picture of Collins and Angel is enough to make the book completely worth it. Wonderful for anyone who likes to see how behind-the-scenes really was as the group was getting ready for the performance.

I bought it, and it took me into a world of RENT, and also the sad story of Jonathan Larson. In the contents of this book, there are interviews with Jonathan Larson's friends and family, and also the original Broadway cast. Also, in this incredible book, lies the RENT libretto, along with pictures to go along with each song. I learned so much from this book, and so would anyone who wanted to learn about RENT. This is a must for all RentHeads!!
Rating: Summary: Every Fan's Necessity Review: This book can only be described as beautiful. It's content, the pictures, everything is a true dedication to the work of Jonathan Larson. The book begins as a biography to the creator of Rent, Jonathan Larson and his original vision of the play and of life itself. Reading his story was quite inspirational. If only he were alive to see his success and how he has touched many people's lives. The remainder of the book is the whole libretto for Rent complete with pictures from a stage performance. The presentation of the libretto and pictures is wonderful. Honestly, I was in complete awe the first time I saw it. There are also in-depth interviews with the cast and people behind the scenes, and some rare photos. This book is the Rent fan's necessity. And, as I said before, could be seen as a true inspiration thanks to Jonathan Larson.
Rating: Summary: The Perfect Book to the Perfect Show! Review: Jonathon Larson's musical creation RENT is awesome. It is truly a tragedy that he passed away before the play had it's big opening on Broadway. This book takes you through Jonathon Larson's hard life while he was writing RENT. It follows through the procedures of casting, rehearsing, and the actual productions. It comes with a complete Libretto with on-stage pictures that are truly wonderfully photographed and put together on the page. There are also many cast and crew comments about the show: rehearsals, casting, the production; about the tragic death of Jonathan Larson; and about the man himself. I have been a (I guess you'd call it a RENThead for a while now and I'm proud of it. I love the beauty of the music, the acting, the very UNshallow storyline, and ultimately, the experience. I absolutely love Jonathan Larson's exquisite creation and I KNOW you will too! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book about a wonderful play. Review: Unlike most theatre books, this one has so much to delve into. It has class, art, style, and originality- much like the musical it was based on. Just looking at the cover, with its taped spine and seemingly spraypainted title, one can see the defiance and creativity of the musical. By the way, an AIDS "epidemic" may or may not exist, the fact that I know at least three people with the disease is supporting the idea, but RENT does not claim that there is one or not. It simply tries to show people who may have AIDS to live life to the fullest. And Jonathan Larson stealing the idea of RENT is laughable. It is, of course, an updated version of La Boheme, changing TB to AIDS. But lots plays and musicals are based on older stories. Larson obviously did not take the story from that woman's book, it's documented how how got it quite well.

Rating: Summary: A Must-Have for Any Theater Fan Review: This is the greatest theater book I have encountered. This book is a must-have for any fan of Rent, or the theater, or anybody! It is filled with pictures and information documenting the creation of Rent from the start of Jonathan Larson's life until its Broadway debut. It also includes the entire liberetto and pictures of the original Broadway cast performing. You feel like you were involved in the production of the play as you are reading it. You have the opportunity to read comments from everybody involved in the production and see from behind the scenes the long haul that Rent made from a simple idea to the best play on Broadway.
Rating: Summary: EVERYTHING IS RENT Review: If you are a fan of this musical, then this book is a DEFINITE must have. It contains the full libretto with vibrant color pictures and behind the scenes photos as well. If you haven't seen this amazing musical, then 1)See It and 2) Buy This Book. Rent is more than a play about dying in today's society. It's about fear, loss, love, life, passion, friendship, success, humanity, compassion, generosity, optimism, hope, courage, and loyalty. It's about being who you are, not being afraid of love, making each day count, and living life to the fullest. Rent is about forging ahead, and not dwelling on the past. It's about being able to come to terms with your own emotions and not just "renting" them to "ape content." I can't urge you enough to buy this book. It's heartbreaking to know that Jonathan Larson never lived to see how his work touched so many lives. His short life only reiterates the fact that there really is "no day but today." Reach out to others. Love yourself. Be thankful for everything you have. See this musical, listen to Jonathan Larson's music, and buy this book. It's more than a souvenir, it's a memoir of THE BEST show on Broadway.
