Rating: Summary: Complete yes, but Van Gogh, no. Review: A frustrating demonstration of poor publication practices, this book demeans the artist it pretends to celebrate with some of the worst color reproductions in print. Van Gogh might as well have let Taschen paint his work. Inexpensive, like forgery, with the same exploitive result.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Book Review: Can't really compare this book to any other Van Gogh books, don't have any others, and haven't done a lot of research for alternatives. But this is a hefty book, gorgeous, colorful, and chronologically written. The pages are matte (or semi-matte) finish, not glossy, which I believe makes the paintings look even better. And the price is great. I wish I could find other books, similarly priced and produced, of other artists; I'd buy them in a second.
Rating: Summary: Did Van Gogh use soy sauce to paint? Review: I am talking about the 2001 edition. The printing quality is HORRIBLE. The colors are WAY OFF. In fact, they are disgusting. Absolutely completely unacceptable! What an insult to Van Gogh! (The book was printed in Slovenia.) I am returning the book tomorrow. If we tolerate bad quality, the publisher will never learn a lesson and never improve their business.
Rating: Summary: Good text, bad picture prints Review: I bought this book, the paperback version. The text is good, it describes all his letters and tries to do a lot of explanations too. However the prints of his paintings are not that impressive. They are very dark prints. Go for some other book if you want to see the corect colors of his paintings.

Rating: Summary: It's Fantastic Reading, and a Work Out, too! Review: I received this wonderful book for Christmas, and have made it my goal to read the entire thing in the year 2000 (At 750+ pages). So far I'm on page 130 (it still January) and I find the writing style engrossing, the reference to Vincent's writing fascinating, and the reprints of his paintings vivid (you can see the brush strokes). The only thing I'm not too crazy about is how incredibly HEAVY the book is. This is not your curl-up-on-the-couch read...it's more like put on your gym clothes and prepare for a workout every time you pick the thing up! ENJOY it, great read. Angela2000

Rating: Summary: Not perfect, but good enough already Review: I would say it is a good book... entire collection of Van Gogh, quite informative and good image quality. Yes, the color is not accurate, but it is almost impossible to print the paintings having exactly the same color as the original. I have the Van Gogh Highlights Screensaver produced by Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam and I don't think the coloring in the book is that terrible as some ppl say(assuming that the color of the electronic copies from the Museum in Amsterdam is close to the original). What I really don't like about this book is.. some paintings were printed across 2 pages. I perfer images are printed in a redused size rather than spanning across pages. All in all, would I recommand this book? YES i would.
