Viggo Mortenson - Recent Forgeries

Review: I had seen some of the pictures provided online that Viggo had taken and some of those have been displayed in galleries I found some of them to be provoking and others made me wonder why would someone do that? Such is art.
The reviews that I have read about the books that Viggo has written made me decided to seek some of them out. I am looking forward to more. Thanks to all of you who left the wonderful reviews and to Viggo for sharing his talent and insights.This has encouraged me to not only view more of Viggos works but more art and poetry altogether.BR>I must be honest in the fact that until I saw the Tolkien movies I never knew Viggo Mortensen by name or the fact that he is a poet,artist,photographer ect..I hope that eventually I would have found my way to his work as sometimes seems to happen.Suddenly things seem to throw themselves into our paths and influence us. We either seek more out and/or rediscover something that we once loved and lost sight of or we turn a blind eye and mind. I have ordered and recently received Recent Forgeries.I have read and reread it a few times in the past 2 days since I have had it.I of coarse have a few pieces that I really like and could spend alot of time looking at. These are Red Minerva,Offerings,Cul,Pope's Apology,Saxon Morning, and What Have You Heard for the artwork. The writings, I absolutely adore Bedtime Story for Henry and Kids Are God;Pay Attention,so very very true.The CD was a wonderful addition to this book as well,it is one thing to read the writings and quite another to hear them read from the author himself.I would recommend this book,and possibly others as well.I have been intrigued and now I must seek more......

Review: I have been a fan of Viggo's since LOTR's and was eager to see what he was about pertaining to his painting, poetry etc ...I have read about his poetry and I was interested in obtaining a book,so upon reading the review of the RECENT FORGERIES I decided this was the book I would like....After looking around for one that was available I found one at Amazon ...I am glad I did....He is such a in depth person and it shows in his writings ...The picture are ok but I would have like some pictures of him in the book but you can not have everything ....The only draw back was the end music on the CD that comes with it with him doing his readings...I would have preferred more readings but for me it was a excellent purchase .I would recommend this to anyone if you love poetry or Viggo and if you can get your hands on a copy ...

Review: i share similar thoughts with the other reviewers. i didn't know who viggo was until Lord of the Rings. The first book I saw of viggo's was Sign Language. I left a review saying "It wasn't my kind of art". But I was still curious. So I got Recent Frorgeries. It has completely swept me away. Not the kind of art i ever liked. But in this book the art made me remember things and made me laugh. But the art wouldn't have been enough. The poerty and the spoken word cd took me over. It made me smile to find out viggo's kindof a pack rat. I have one question for viggo though. Who's Candy Williams?!

Review: I've had this book on my wish list for some time but haven't ordered it. Now, it's no longer available here or other popular bookstores. However, I did find it from Percival Press and I didn't have to pay double! Hope this helps.

Review: If you like the unusual,how someone else views the near and far
world, the off-center. This book is great. I like best the odd
blend/splashes of color. The CD is well-done. Even singing off
key to mixes of moments of counterpoint sounds and instruments-
to the call of the torchered man.

Review: Intriguing.. the idea of including a CD with the author reading some of his poems is brilliant.. the poems come to life when he reads them, and the words start to shape scenes that seem very much like his snapshots, with the difference that, the photographs make ordinary scenes of daily life seem infused with solace, whereas in the poems, the solace seems to be replaced with more tension, and what seems, at times, like agony, and at others, like longing...And somehow, a lot of the pieces, whether poems or pictures, seem to speak of "the spaces between and around things"..my favourite poem is "Edit", favourite photograph is "green", favourite CD track, the scream at the beginning of a number and ongoing in its background (!), and favourite painting: ALL OF THEM, I wish there were more of them, or, perhaps another book mostly of paintings.

Review: Many of today's "movie" folk have discovered something many of us already knew. Under the magic of movies, there is a man named Viggo Mortensen who happens to be an actor, along with a painter, a poet, and an individual who encourages others to think, read and be honest with themselves. This book is about modern art, words and truth. Not a pretty face, or a mindless photo hound. This book can provoke thought, appreciation and most of all, inspire you to become creative in whatever media suits you. Just when you think you've seen each frame clearly, you will find additional depth and subtle nuances that entrance. Recommended for those who appreciate art, poetry, and who want to think. A great companion piece to Coincidence of Memory, another of his works that is exceptional.

Summary: Think outside the box!
Review: this book challenges you to do just that. It leads you from one emotion to another from the funny photo "Cheating" to the warm, and cozy "Home". From the poem "Cuttings" that is endearing and calming to "Second Opinion" that resonates with anguish, anger and regret. Viggo leaves you hungry and wanting to know more. If you are buying this book just because you are a Lord of the Rings/Aragorn fan, then you will be disappointed, this book has nothing to do with the actor and everything to do with the artist...the man. However, you won't learn much about Viggo, for like the Loch Ness monster he stays shrouded in mist, elusive, always just out of reach to the reader. If you keep an open mind, tho you may just learn something unexpected about yourself. P.S. the CD that comes with it is just icing on a very sweet cake.
