Summary: didnt last long
Review: I had one of these subs (the original DPS-12 that is) and sure enough, buzz-pop and deathly silence once the amp blew up.

If so many people have had this problem, surely JBL are selling really bad products ...can anyone say class-action?

I guess I'll go with a company that has real customer service and a reliable product, like SVS , B&W etc.

Summary: Never buying JBL Again
Review: I purchased a JBL PSW-12D in June of 1999. After spending 2 stints in a JBL service center, total of four months, within the first year, and the problem never being fixed, JBL asked me to send the subwoofer back to them at my cost ..., they then shipped me a new PB 12.

Though it's performed well for 2 years, and I have no complaints with the audio performance, the new unit just died - random loud popping noises (even when unconnected to the source) and horribly distorted sound.

As I sat down this morning to check out JBL's webpage for troubleshooting info, I reread all of my correspondence with JBL from the first problem, all of the forgotten frustration and anger has come back anew.

I will not spend another dime on this unit, or risk another four months of "service" - it's long since passed the good money following bad threshold.

The first problem I was willing to attribute to bad luck, but a second unit failing in such a short time has convinced me that it's a bigger problem - a JBL problem. I'll do my best to never have to deal with JBL problems again.

Summary: Dave Vincent is absolutely right
Review: I totally agree with Dave Vincent because I had exactly the same problem with the JBL PB 12 Subwoofer. JBL, however, refused to replace the subwoffer for me. The local JBL authorized center also advised me do not waste money and time to fix it.

Summary: JBL PB12 SUX
Review: I would say that JBL just had a bad batch of amps from this third party company who they no longer deal with.
I bought my PB12 in 2001 from BEST BUY and luckily I got extended service plan that coves the damn thing for 4 years. Well about 4 months ago it died. No power, no nothing. I guess it went to sleep and never woke up. I got a new one from Best Buy cuz it was under extended warrenty. Now I'm very scared to even crack up my sub to even half way.
I have other JBL front speakers that bought for $800/pair and they ROCK, no problem what so ever. I think its just the BAD AMP Module in these JBL PB12's that are bad which are not really made by JBL. They are made by some 3rd party vendor.
Hope this helps someone...

Summary: Avoid this Item
Review: It has great sound but after 2 years of occasional use, it blew up on me today. It keeps blowing fuses and JBL does not stock replacement parts. They offered to sell me the newer model for around $230, but I am not sure if I want to sink more money into JBL or not.

So sad. Shame on you for not atleast keeping 2 years of parts.

Summary: Best value for the money, period!
Review: It's been six months since I purchased the PB12 and have been rocking out ever since. No problems whatsoever. I purchased a PB10 first and it was great. What I did'nt like about the PB10 was that it did not have an on/off power switch. I just feel safer being able to flip a switch and cut off the power. The PB12 is noticeable a better sub, more power 250W, 12" cone, it's just better. A 12" woofer just pushes a lot more air and gives that deep deep bass that we all crave. I have a Yamaha RXV620 receiver and 7 other JBL speakers, from the Northridge series, hooked up to it. It cranks! Home theater shines and movies do sound better than music. I'm not sure whether or not it's the speakers or the receiver, but it's all good. A good price and a great value, I highly recommend this sub.

Summary: One more dead amp power module....
Review: Lasted eight months before it went dark. Diagnosis: "power module" - $185 to fix, part would be warranteed for 90 days. I don't think that's going to happen. Have contacted JBL Canada to see if they offer any reason not to junk it...

Summary: Great if it works
Review: My sub died shortly after the warranty was over. I Email JBL and they offer to replace my unit with a newer unit called an E250P for $248.64 (accommodation price). No Thanks

Summary: One more dead amp power module....
Review: My wife purchased me a PB12 as a gift a little over a year ago. It lasted approximatly 6 or 7 months before blowing fuses like crazy. I returned it where i purchased it and they shipped it out for repair. I recieved it back and used it on and off for a bit. I never CRANKED it up or did anything abnormal and 4 or 5 months later BOOM, BUZZ, CRACKLE, and SMOKE!! Glad the house didn't burn down because this baby almost caught fire. What a great product JBL/Harmon you JERKS!!! Great job screwing the consumer and not fixing the problem or selling replacement parts after two years. This product should have been recalled and fixed. IT IS DANGEROUS!! READ ALL THESE REVIEWS CAREFULLY. The people that say it is a great product most likely have not had it for a year. Give them time they will blow up on you too! Please do not purchase anything from JBL/Harmon or Infiniti. They are all realated companies. If you do you will join the $350.00 paper weight club just like me and the rest of us suckers who purchased this product.
