Rating: Summary: keep away Review: ...This makes a terrible humming noise. I tested the driver and it's not it. I think the amp adds distortion to the signal. KLH needs to stick to speakers, not amps! Avoid this!
Rating: Summary: This sub will surprise you! Review: Amazon was out of stock, picked up at Costco (sorry Amazon). Had looked at the ASW10 for sometime due to that price, so I gave it a try; could always take it back.Besides, my mains are KLH sat/passive sub combo and center is KLH also. Surrounds are Atlantic Technology. Got it home, and was surprised. This was not the same sub they had on display. The woofer is much better quality, and the cabinet seems to be 1/2". The display looked to be maybe 1/4". 35lbs. Knocking on the cabinet produced a hollow tone. Not good. Oh well; I had an issue of Sound and Vision, great article on setting up subs I couldn't wait to try. Raced through the setup, and was disappointed at the pink noise level from the sub. I was already gathering up the packing stuff to take it back, but tried some music anyway. Wow! I thought the bass drum from my Bootsy Collins CD was going to bust my windows! I jumped back over to the sub to turn the level down. Way down. Now it was bearable, but had to drop the crossover too.I was amazed at the sound coming from this sub! It hung on some notes but its not in the best location right now. Have it connected with a 26' Monster sub cable, mono jack. Yamaha receiver, all speakers set to small, all bass to sub. Movies were next, Star Trek VI. The opening score was fantastic, and there's an explosion at the conclusion that put a big grin on my face. I made adjustments during the movie until it sounded pretty good. Also watched Predator and The Matrix, very happy. Of course, I couldn't leave it alone; wanted to see how much boom I could eliminate. Went to Radio Shack, got a bag of acoustic insulation (fiberglass) and a sound level meter. Used the meter to calibrate all speakers to 75db. Found the actual setting for the sub was almost 90db, still sounded good at 80db and left it there.I was nervous, but took out the four screws holding the woofer and lifted. The cables are short, but they have clip connectors that slide right off the speaker terminals. Unfastened them and put the woofer aside. No internal bracing causes the hollow sound, but for $99... I lined the top, bottom, left and right sides. Added extra at the bottom next to the "port" (cardboard tube, $99...)got the whole bag in. Replaced the speaker and tried a movie I had just played (Predator, Rebel Camp scene). The insulation made a big diference, bass was clearer, and the motoring noise was gone. Final settings; level at 3, crossover at 85-80db, depending on the movie. $99, a little effort and time with adjustments and stuffing have me very happy right now. I know its not the best, but until I can freely spend $500 on a sub, this one stays.
Rating: Summary: I WILL NEVER BUY A _KLH_ SPEAKER AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!!!! Review: I BOUGHT ONE OF THESE 4 MONTHS AGO AFTER A MONTH IT FRIED! SOO I EXCHANED IT FOR ANOTHER ONE AND AFTER A MONTH THAT ONE FRIED ________I WILL NEVER BUY A KLH SPEAKER FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!!!!!!!!_________________
Rating: Summary: 6 Months of good sound, then ... Review: I bought this in April after getting a pair of KLH "twisty" speakers. It ran fine, sounded great and then blew the fuse. I replaced it and it ran fine for a couple of hours, then blew again. Replaced the fuse after checking cable, settings etc. It makes a loud humming noise even without anything hooked up to it, and the heat sink on the amp section gets VERY hot. Won't buy another KLH powered sub again.
Rating: Summary: W O W ! ! ! Review: I bought this KLH subwoofer a couple of days ago ... . I hooked it up to my computer to go along with my existing 5 piece surround sound system. This speaker rattles the walls! (Literally! ) I love it! It's every bit (if not better) than my friend's subwoofer made by Boston Accoustics (which costs A LOT more). Buy this and your ears will be happy. VERY rich quality bass!
Rating: Summary: KLH ASW10-120 powered subwoofer Review: I bought this sub as fill in, until I can afford my dream. It works quite well, but a recommendation to all new users: keep the phase on norm and keep the crossover under 70 hertz. It can play loudly and cleanly when you do this. It works well with DVD Dolby and is very good with music. It can send very powerful vibrations through the floor (good 30 hertz response). Alway consider the vibrations when you place it. I could compare this to many $300-600 subs, but that's not fair. I will keep this one in use, even after I buy that dream unit.
Rating: Summary: KLH sub review Review: I bought this sub... after reading amazons reviews. Hooked it up(through the mono jack) and it adds great bass to my system - Onkyo receiver, Polk Audio Fronts, mini advents rear, alpine center channel. The instructions are clear on setting it up, but there was nothing to tell you where to set the controls. I checked out my father-in-laws instructions to his $400 sub and it said to set it to 85Hz- so thats what I set mine at. This sub is as good as his. I keep the gain(volume) around 7- gives lots of deep bass. A good deal for the $.
Rating: Summary: Great value & sound - while it lasted Review: I bought this subwoofer about a year and a half ago. For that time it worked great until just recently. The sound was clear with a bunch of power. However, the other night I noticed that the area near it smelled "hot." I immediately unplugged the unit and noticed a black liquid/goo dripping out from under the amplifier. It concerned me that if I hadn't noticed the problem when I did, it could have started a fire. Of course the warranty has expired (go figure). I have written to KHL to see if this was just a defect in my unit or a product defect. I will post their response here. Unless I find out that this was just a problem with my unit, I would avoid this product at all costs.

Rating: Summary: Superb for the price Review: I got this in order to fill in the bottom end of my cheapo surround sound system. I was hesitant, since my main speakers contain a pair of 15" woofers, I didn't know whether it would truly make a difference. It did, and way beyond my expectations. It features a nice crossover, auto on/off and a volume control - plus two separate methods of connecting it: one through your normal speaker chain and one method for a direct connection from your receiver. Also includes a phase switch, although in many cases the audible effect is unnoticeable. Unfortunately, the manual included is barren, very basic and not all too informative, providing simply diagrams for connection. I first attempted the direct connection with a standard rca cable but was unable to get it to work. I then tried the speaker chain connection which seemed to work very well. Other reviews report much better quality with the direct connection, however, the 'standard' method produces very pleasing results. Of course, this isn't the type of subwoofer that would blow your beanie off, but for enhancing an existing system this really does the job well. Finding the correct crossover point is imperative (it will vary from system to system) and from what I've heard, I wouldn't recommend setting the volume up past 7 or so. I should say that although it did seriously enhance the audio in surround mode, when it is in stereo only mode, the bass effect is nearly doubled. This may be due to phasing issues within the original surround signal. If you already have an existing Dolby surround setup and just aren't getting that whapping, deep bass that you need, this is a perfect inexpensive solution.
