Summary: a breath of fresh air
Review: having visited the US and Canada in 1997 and being facinated by the country and native Americans,I picked this up at my video store and the whole family loved it;the story ,the actors, the scenery, the concept (would that it could happen) and the dog.we have a blue Australian cattle dog whose father was red so the red -blue heeler stumpy tail added to the movie for us.The version I hired in Australia didn't have the narration and having seen both version,I prefer the version without because you can then just lose yourself in the story. But that's a minor distraction in a fine and entertaining movie.

Summary: Why Didn't Anyone Tell Me About This in 1995?
Review: A true escapist movie, but for those of us who are tired of the violence and greed of today's world, a look at an alternate way of life is uplifting. I found the theme of the movie intriguing: What if it were true? Could it possibly have happened? Wouldn't it be divine justice if it had? And more films should have endings like this one! The music was wonderful, the scenery spectacular, the acting passable by the white actors, and effectively understated by the native Americans. AND - the film was monitored by the American Humane Society, which is especially important to me - no animal should suffer at the hands of mankind for any reason, let alone to create a realistic effect which could be achieved equally well with special effects cameras. This film is an unsung treasure.

Summary: A great film in the best sense
Review: last of the dogmen is one of the best and most moving movies ever to grace the silver screen! It is made like an old fashioned film, but goes to even greater heights because the characters are so unique. the writer and director, tab murphy, has quietly created such a masterpiece by making you thing of the simple things that matter most: love and hope in dreams. he also makes you remember the indians and helps you think that maybe their are still some untouched out their. the best thing he did was create a love story in the truest , simpilest, and most old-fashioned sense. the acting writing and directing make this one of the very best.

Summary: Superior DVD
Review: I loved the movie, but I was also very impressed with the DVD. Far and above the best of my DVD collection. The special features, featurettes, director's cut, even a section with sketches of the authentic Native American costumes, give the movie goer an insight of the difficulties in producing a film like this. It even gives American viewers a chance to see it without the irritating voice over. Many thanks to HBO for producing this. Of course, not enough can be said for Tab Murphy's story and direction, or Tom Berenger's perfect Lewis Gates. A wonderful viewing experiance.

Summary: Beautifully shot & acted
Review: This movie was filmed in a beautiful part of the country. I found it easy to believe you could find a lost tribe of Indians living there in the mountains. It was a touching story of a man, lost in everyday life, who found meaning among the Cherokee. The scenery was moving; the acting superb; and the story line amazing. It inspired hope in me that there could be a place so untouched by modern civilization. I hated to see the movie end!

Summary: Gets better every time I watch it...
Review: If you've only seen this movie once, do yourself a favor and BUY IT! This movie brings to the surface the longing that most of us have for a simpler, kinder life. I should be so lucky to find anything even close to the dream in 'The Oxbow'.
