Summary: A Winning Set!
Review: After being separated for a few years, the Mavericks reunited to produce a new cd album in 2003 entitled, The Mavericks, in which, they continued to display their musical versatility. However, with the release of this dvd, one can see how the Mavericks emerged onto the country music scene. The Mavericks were once described as a cross between the country group, Alabama, and the pop/latin group, the Miami Sound Machine. Although this is a valid description, the Mavericks produced a refreshing, unique and distinctive sound. A sound that won them several awards during the height of their popularity. Many found it difficult to classify their sound, because their full catalog of song hits extracted elements found in pop, country, rock, jazz, soul, gospel and latin music. Though country music was the dominant influence, the Mavericks created a synthesis which made their music both inviting and invigorating. The musicians were excellent and the lead singer, Raul Malo, had a wonderful voice which could emote a ballad with the sensitivity comparable to that of the late Roy Orbison. This dvd offers some of their greatest hits, however, only five of them. The total time is approximately 20 minutes. This doesn't seem to do justice to their talent. The five tracks are: (1) O' What A Thrill, (2) What A Crying Shame, (3) All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down (with Flaco Jimenez), (4) Missing You and (5) Dance The Night Away. It's a short dvd, but each song is a winner. Tracks 1,2 & 4 emphasize their distinctive pop/country/rock sound, while tracks 3 & 5 demonstrate more of their uplifting pop/country/latin influences. Why some of their other music videos (e.g. There Goes My Heart & I Should've Been True) were not included in this set is a mystery. However, this set is a testimony to the band's great talent, humor, versatility & superb energy. This dvd shows the Mavericks at their best, which means that it's thoroughly enjoyable. You'll love hearing it over and over again.

Summary: The Mavericks
Review: First, this bunch has a unique collection of songs and music unlike any other in the industry today - and they are absolutely wonderful! They get 5 stars for this video, however, my disappointment is that it is not long enough. I simply wish it had more of thier music on it - 5 cuts are great for the low price, but understand - I would have paid a lot more for a few more tunes.
Get busy guys and make another DVD! More, more, more!!!
