Summary: Perfect
Review: It has every single Western cliche, but the cast and the script pull it off flawlessly. If you like Westerns even a little, you'll love this. If you don't like Westerns, you'll still love it.

Summary: A whole lotta fun
Review: I remember first seeing this film (as a little kid) in 50mm. The screen was huge, showing every last detail of the beautiful countryside panoramic shots that fill the movie. I was blown away. Then I got to watch a truly fun story with great acting, sometimes cheesy dialogue (but I don't mind), and an honor and spirit that's hard to find today. Cleese's cameo is truly great and Costner is downright fun in his second over-the-top performance (Fandango being the first). Great fun and even moreso in widescreen.

Summary: The Best of The Modern Westerns
Review: I'll tell you how much I like this movie. I bought the VHS and soundtrack no more than six weeks ago and upon discovering its DVD availability, I immediately hit "1-Click".

I can't think of another Western in the 15 years since this film was released that I enjoyed more, not even "Lonesome Dove", and that's saying a lot. I was praying that it would be released on DVD and it's nice to know my prayers were answered.

The cast is one of the finest of the mid-Eighties: Danny Glover, Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Jeff Goldblum, Linda Hunt, John Cleese, and Brian Dennehy. And these are just the principals.

Silverado is a sweeping Western demi-epic that takes some classic genre cliches and weaves them into a modern classic, emboldened by Bruce Boughton's masterful score. The master of this all is co-writer and director Lawrence Kasdan, who has given us some other gems like "Body Heat" and "The Big Chill".

This DVD release is great news and the only thing that could make me happier is to find that additional scenes featuring Rosanna Arquette, deleted from the theatrical release, appear somewhere on the DVD.

Summary: A great Western with a modern cinematic feel
Review: One of my all-time favorite movies and certainly my favorite Western. Having it on on DVD will let me watch it a hundred times without having to rewind! Kevin Klein stands out, but the acting is uniformly terrific. Excellent direction and cinematography give the film a modern feel. Character development is given a great deal of attention and there are a lot of characters, so it's quite an accomplishment to have done such a good job with each of them.

As I said, I can watch this movie over and over again. I'll bet you can too...

Summary: For a generation who have forgotten Westerns - see this!
Review: All this action, all those stars, that music too! Worth watching for Dennehy and Cleese alone. Or Glenn and Kline. Or Goldblum and Costner. Or Glover and those Henrys. Hell, I'd watch it just for Linda Hunt.

Settle down. Get the family around you and relish!

Summary: The Perfect Modern Western!
Review: I LOVE this movie. I saw it multiple times in the theaters. I bought the originial video version and watch a number of times every year. Very few movies hold up to multiple watchings as well as this one. My copies getting a little worn out and I'm waiting expectantly for the Widescreen remaster to finally be released.

Summary: "The" Western lover's western!
Review: Whereas Leoni deconstructed the western and Eastwood (latterly) used it for brooding meditation, Kasdan made the ultimate "cowboy ptcha'", as we used to call them. A loving survey of virtually every western plot presented by a superb cast. Plus, it's the only chance you'll probably ever get to see Kevin Costner display actual energy on screen. Only question is why, oh why, isn't it available in widescreen and DVD?

Summary: The greatest western of the 80's
Review: Terrific movie with several of my favorite actors. Kevin Kline in his second best role (first being A fish called Wanda). Scott Glenn is a terrific lead as Emmett. Kevin Costner has never been so hyper. And even though it's not a big role, Mr. Slick (Jeff Goldblum) is a class act. I recommend this to any Western film fan.
