Summary: If you like Westerns, get this movie.
Review: Silverado is one of those movies that is just fun to watch. It has a great cast, good action, and a fun storyline. Kevin Kline is great and it's the only movie where Kevin Costner actually acts. The only negative is the part with Roseanna Arquette. Fluff material. But overall, a great movie.

Summary: A true homage to the classic western movie
Review: Silverado is a movie whose respect for the genre of the Western makes it an important piece of cinema. The film is crisply written, beautifully photographed and complemented by a musical score that is both stirring and appropriate to the action. The cast is superb. They represent at least three Oscars, two Emmies and two Tony awards. Imagine what it would cost to get these actors today!

Summary: The Best
Review: This is the first movie I wanted in DVD. Now it's out and I'm getting it tomorrow. The sound from the theater could only be caught on the 5.1.

Summary: Silverado captures the essence of the great Westerns.
Review: When Silverado first appeared in the theaters, I believed the movie critics and failed to see it. I have spent the years since regretting that choice. The cinematography is superb. The script sparkles so that you'd almost think the Epstein brothers had a hand in it. And the performances rank among their personal best for most of the cast. File it with your favorite Western videos right next to the Cavalry Trilogy. The only thing that's missing is Ben Johnson (and don't you know he probably regretted it!).

Summary: A western for our generation
Review: Long seen more as a star vehicle than the reverent look at the old West it truly was, "Silverado" finally gets the treatment it has deserves on this great DVD. Now we can witness the climatic gunfight between Paden and Cobb without one character or the other being cropped out of the picture. Lawrence and Mark Kasdan have written the most joyful and spirited movie set in the old West since the days of the Duke's on-screen romps with Maureen O'Hara. The performances of the principal actors here were right-on-the-mark (Kevin Kline being excellent as always) and I was pleased that an African-American was finally given a chance to shine as a real Western hero and as a lead character (an awesome performance by Danny Glover). The real revelation here is Kevin Costner's wild and free-spirited turn as Jake; the only downside is that his subsequent efforts now appear so wooden by comparison. And who can forget the landscapes?! I could tell from the opening scene when Scott Glenn exits the shanty and we are treated to a spectacular view of the plains and valley below that the photography in this film would be something to behold. It truly was. About the only thing there is to complain about is the underwritten role of the frontier woman played by Rosanna Arquette. I really don't think that enough was done with her, and seemed that Paden's attentions shifted too quickly from her toward Linda Hunt's Stella. The Kasdans themselves conceded in the featurette accompanying the DVD that they were disappointed at how the character had turned out. They alluded to scenes featuring Arquette that were ultimately cut from the movie. I definitely would like to have seen them, and wish they were included on the disc. But this is a small quibble. Any fan of the Western genre -- and fans of Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, Scott Glenn, and Kevin Costner -- will love the joy and heroic drama that jumps from the screen. You cannot watch "Silverado" and come away feeling anything but happy.

Summary: A Wonderful DVD film
Review: I have loved this film ever since I first saw it on cable, years ago. But I had never really seen it until the DVD arrived a few days ago. If you have ever seen this film on TV or on video you are in for a shock. The digital remaster is absolutely beyond compare. The soundtrack remaster is astounding. And the "Making of" feature is wonderful. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Westerns, great stories or any of the almost 20 (now big time) stars that appear in it. It is the best.

Summary: An experience as Big as the Wide Open West!
Review: This is a must see movie if you are even slightly inclined to enjoy great big western open spaces and unbeatable scenery. Take time to really imerse yourself in the great landscapes of New Mexico as seen in this all time classic movie.

Summary: Great Western story w. the color/grandeur of the Southwest
Review: This film combines a great story with a cast of actors that get into a classic Western Story--Ranchers versus the increasing number of settlers. Interesting that director lawrence Kasdan and his brother wrote the story based their play as children---show the impact Westerns have had in the culture. The musical scoe is outstanding and the scenery breathtaking. The DVD widescreen version offers a better viewing than pan scan, gets more of the feel from the original theatre release. Glad it was released!

Summary: technically superior DVD and great movie
Review: This DVD has the two most important technical things to look for in a DVD format: widescreen anamorphic video and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. The latter is stupendous, with discreet sounds from each speaker, you really feel as though you are *in* the movie (compare this to the trailer in the special section to get a feel of how the sound has been enhanced for this format)

The movie is wonderful with an unbelievable cast and wonderful performances from each. Fans of Kevin Kline, Danny Glover and Kevin Costner will be especially happy.

This is a happy addition to my growing DVD collection
