Summary: I love this movie, and I don't even like Westerns!
Review: This is one of the first movies I actually went out and bought instead of taping off the TV. It's a blast -- and don't be fooled by the horses and guns. This is a chick flick -- four sensitive (and sexy) cowboys relate to one another and form friendships in a very loosely-plotted movie moving from one adventure to another. Rosanna Arquette and Linda Hunt are fabulous, especially Hunt. The gunhandling is also wonderful. And just Scott Glenn in leather pants is worth the price of the video!

Summary: The Western to end all Westerns.
Review: Somebody once said, that when Tolstoy wrote War and Peace, he includeed anything possible, except a race for sailingboats. Silverado does the same thing for Westerns. Featuring a terrific cast (Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Linda Hunt,, Scott Glen, just to name a view) This movie includes practicaly anything ever shown in a Western. The strange thing: it works! Where War and Peace becomes boring and confusing after ten pages, Silverado keeps the pace and as far as there is a plot, it is clear from beginning to end. Also it reinjects a sense of humor into Westerns, which was large lost during the Sergio Leone era. Silverado is an enjoyable movie, with a simple plot, a great cast and plenty of action.

Review: Though I've yet to see the movie in its entirety, the music invokes all the adventure, the realism, and the pageantry of the Old West. A must have. Broughton's score is truly magnificent!

Summary: I would have enjoyed it 100% if...
Review: ...Kevin Costner had sunk for real in his waterworld, and so would not have been able to spoil my pleasure watching an otherwise fine cast. Luckily they were too many for him, so he could not ruin it completely. But I'd like very much to see a remake with anybody else able to act, so I could put 5 stars.

Summary: #1 Western in a long time
Review: With an all-star cast and wonderful story to "boot" SILVERADO is one of the best westerns that I have ever seen. It's clean, it's action-packed, and best of all it's believable! Bruce Broughton is an authentic composer. His music brings the story to life. It doesn't break your concentration on the movie at hand but is good enough to make you want the soundtrack when your are done. The soundtrack is a masterpiece. In the words of Lawarence Kasdan...it's a "Horse Opera."

Summary: Yehaaaaa!
Review: Although there have been westerns made since Silverado this seems to be the last one that is just for fun, no messages. I enjoy Unforgiven and Dances With Wolves but why doesn't anyone make fun westerns any more? I first saw this film on the big screen and then subsequently on television before rushing out to buy the video release. Over the past few years I haven't watched it because it doesn't look right in pan and scan. Now at last I have bought the widescreen version and can really enjoy the film again. This is great fun, a wonderful film and its a pity that a sequel is unlikely (or am I wrong?) The picture quality is excellent and I was amazed at how dark the video tape is in comparison. I also noticed that while the DVD states that the aspect is 2.35 the film seems more like 1.85. Comparing the video tape (the opening scene looks like 2.35) the DVD has more picture information. So anyone concerned that they aren't getting the full picture - don't worry, its all here. Great picture quality and good sound. A brilliant cast, great locations, good direction and a fun script make this a great modern western. Watch it, enjoy it and relive your childhood (if you watched every western as a child, as I did). Yehaa!

Summary: A Classic Western
Review: An enjoyable, action-packed western. From the opening scene when Glen foils the ambush to the grand finale, it rarely lets up. The fact that each of the four main heroes has his own story-line further serves to hold interest. I could even overlook the unrealistic scenes (such as the treasure retrieval from the bandit hideout, and the stampede shoot-out at the ranch) and still be entertained. Music score and cinematography was excellent. On DVD, I could hear the wind in the background, something I didn't hear on the VHS version. Classic line for the movie: "He's hit everything he's aimed at, you idiot." Must see for western fans.

Summary: A Big, Wide-Open Saga, with larger-than-life soundtrack
Review: This is a fun cowboy movie with a expansive, wide-open feeling aided by a rousing score. The music brings to recollection the great works of Aaron Copeland. The story is old, but the execution and craftsmanship are exquisite. This is probably Kevin Costner's best acting (he doesn't take himself so gosh-darn seriously!) A decent family film with minimal violence or bad language, though there are some implied adult situations. The good guys win!

Review: This film is a wonderful reminder of how fun and glorious action films used to be without being overly bloody. A wonderful western. A wonderful cast. A wonderful score. A wonderful film. This is the film that made me want to pursue film as a career.
