Summary: Not your average shoot-em'-up!
Review: This movie is in my all time top 10. Val Kilmer as Doc is absolutely magnificent! The writing for this movie was exceptional. Sam is a gorgeous hunk as usual and Russell is top notch. It'll make you want to strap on a six shooter. If you appreciate quick wit, suspense and drama this is the movie for you. You will not be sorry!

Summary: A movie that lives up to Hollywood legends......
Review: Every once in awhile magic on the screen takes place where you don't expect it, least of all a dry, dusty western. This isn't really a western, this is a movie about friendship, courage, and about starting over.

Val Kilmer simply has the role of his career, where he catches the essence of Doc Holiday; for him there is no chance to "start over", he is dying so he has to live in the here and now, helped by sexy Joanna Pacula. Standing in his way of enjoying his last days, and Wyatt Earp starting over is a group of bad guys who want to control the town by intimidation. Johnny Ringo is their faster gunslinger and he knows it. After showing his speed, Doc decides to put on a display of his own---the twirling cup sequence is brilliant and legendary. The "Cowboys" know that the Earps will not stand for their presence and Doc is with them.

After epic battles, where Doc comes to life and helps Kurt Russel's Earp and brothers put an end to the "cowboys", there remains Johnny Ringo. And Johnny Ringo is faster than Earp. Russell doesn't know what to do. He is at his limit. He must face Johnny Ringo, his eventual end as a gunfighter..but he wants to start a new life with sexy, GORGEOUS Dana Delaney, herself a person with a "past". Its like life will not give him a break for upholding the law. Meanwhile, his best friend, Doc is dying in his bed. Earp must meet Ringo in the morning. Outlook does not look good. But he must go, this is the TRUE test of courage that you do your duty when you know this time you are not going to make it. A similar ethos was when Matthew Broderick's Colonel leads the night attack at the end of Glory; you can sense their anguish, that this really is the end of the line.

What I want to remark on is the FRIENDSHIP of Doc Holliday towards Wyatt. Ifthat doesn't move you, well!

Summary: Disappointing
Review: After I struggled through Wyatt Earp, my friends all recommended this movie to me. Apparently Kurt Russel is a better actor than Kevin Costner and Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday is just amazing. So I finally watched it and it wasn't all that great.

Of course Doc Holliday is the best character in this storyline and he will always be the best character, but I found Dennis Quaid a better Doc Holiday (if only because he was saving us from Kevin Costner's delivery) Val Kilmer just seems pretentious where Dennis Quaid was having fun. Kurt Russel is ok, but this movie is also ponderous and too long.

Besides that the video transfer isn't very good. Half the time it looks like everyone is walking around in a dust cloud. While that brings some authenticity to the old west storyline it doesn't bring much pleasure to the viewer at home. If you want to watch this movie, get the DVD. I can't say that it's any better, but it can't be any worse.

Summary: The BEST western film ever
Review: I'm not usually a big fan of westerns but this film is incredible! Val Kilmer shines on this one but the cast is great. We have a huge flat of Doc Holiday in our studio and even had it on stage during our first show together. Since then Doc Holiday's taken a shot from a drumstick but that's the price you pay for 161bpm.

Review: as a former resident and city councilwoman of Tombstone, I can tell you this movie created the greatest excitement in a long time..while not historicaal factual in all things, it is the most entertaining of all the Earpiana movies..a must see for western fans

Summary: Great performances but falters near the end.....
Review: Great performances, especially Kilmer, why Paxton was cast I'll never know. Good movie until near the end. Russell walks out to the center of the creek and just stands there without getting hit in the middle of a major gun battle?!?!? And Doc is too sick to get out of bed but then gets up and rides 4 miles to 'finish' the job?!?! Why montage a bunch of brief action clips together? If you took the time to film them, show it!! It just gave me the feeling that they were rushed into wrapping up production or the director disappeared from the set or something. Overall, some GREAT lines , an authentic look, and great performances even if the script is weak towards the end. A great effort for the western genre.

Summary: Fun
Review: Is there anything I can say that's new? No there isn't. For a Hollywood style western this one does a pretty good job getting most of the facts right. Yes it portrays the Earps as being heroic and the Clantons and all their goons as being rotten. Historians tell us that wasn't how it was looked at by the locals. That's probably true, but by god this movie keeps your attention. It also makes an effort to show that folks in the West were really no different then we are today. They followed trends, they had big dreams, they drank to much. In other words they were human. I like this movie. It's a great action movie and for the old west buff it's full of great looking costumes and firearms. Kilmer is great, but so are all the other leads. I don't know how many times I've seen this movie and I never grow tired of it. Unlike Costner's more historically accurate and very glum movie Wyatt Earp. Now that movie is just too heavy with no zip.

Summary: Great Movie!!
Review: Wow!! What a fantastic movie! I expected Tombstone to be a weak western flick. I was pleasantly surprized!!

Tombstone has a killer cast, Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Bill Paxton, Sam Elliott, Dana Delaney, Billy Zane, Charlton Heston, Jason Priestly, Michael Biehn, Thomas Haden Church and Billy Bob Thornton. Each role,is no matter how large or small, was crafted to perfection in this movie. Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp, Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday, and Sam Elliott as Virgil Earp were especially excellent.

Tombstone is the story about the Cowboy Gang and how they terrorized the western town of Tombstone until Wyatt Earp and company came to town. Its a great story, its very well done and its easily one of the best movies I have seen.

This one is well worth a purchase!!

Summary: HEY! HOLLYWOOD AND HISTORICAL ACCURACY?
Review: This is a great movie if you would like to know the real story of Wyatt Earp. It's facts are ninety-percent accurate. Russel looks eighty-percent like Earp. And the movie is seventy-percent enjoyable. Unless you have a headache. Then it is fifty-percent. Russell has plently of chances to cock his eyebrows and look tough. He declines and gives a superb performance. As does Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday. Unfortanately, after an hour, it's as if the director left town and they put Peewee Herman in charge. With gloomy music from a B movie, we are suddenly cast into a twilight zone episode where the good guys are surrounded by the bad guys. So we wait it out tensely. Then we wait it out until we get tired. Then we wait it out until we go into the kithchen and get some graham crakers. Then we have a splurge of violence which is supposed make up for all the boredom we entailed. It doesn't. Then the movie comes back from the bad direction. The last thirty minutes are great. The writing never departs from being incredible. Actually, many of the words are taken from historical fact. Earp did say about Doc Holiday, "I like him. He makes me laugh." Kilmer does a tremendous job as the dying Doc Holiday. Russell is under-rated. He is Wyatt Earp. Sam Elliot as Virgil Earp is Sam Elliot. A fine actor, but his personality as Virgil Earp is abit over-shadowed by Sam Elliot. There are some ridiculous moments. Like Russel going out into the rain and having a screaming constest with Zeus. The best part of the film is the friendship with Earp and Holiday. Thank God we have now have a good display of how friendships are between two men. Nothing much is said but they do things for one another. Once again, the director is terrific for capturing this on film. Oh! Before you order the movie from Amazon.com, I would like to brag and state that I sat next to Kurt Russel in high school! We never said a word to each other. And after viewing the film, I think perhaps it was better that way. Now purchase the most accurate portrayal of Earps and Holiday's life availble on film. It will be worth it. Thank you.
