Rating: Summary: An Impressive Performance by Val Kilmer Review: Frankly, I'm not a Kilmer fan -- didn't think he could act all that well. This movie proves me wrong -- Mr. Kilmer CAN act and act very well. He just needs the right script/character. His character, Doc Holliday, made the movie for me. The lines were great, the talent was exquisite. Kudos to you, sir!
Rating: Summary: One of the all-time great Westerns Review: Costner's "Wyatt Earp" is a very solid (though somewhat innacurate) biography of the legendary figure, but "Tombstone" is a better Hollywood Western Shoot-Em-Up. Action packed and funny. Besides, any Western made after 1980 HAS to have Eastwood or Sam Elliot in it to be any good.
Rating: Summary: Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday is fantastic Review: What a role. The character of Doc Holiday was so charming, a true southern gentleman. This movie made me a Val Kilmer fan in a big kind of way. Women absolutely must see this film. I haven't met any female who has seen this movie who hasn't been thoroughly impressed with Kilmer, he is a living doll.
Rating: Summary: Val Kilmer is an artist Review: What can I say? Val Kilmer graces the screen in this stylish, sophisticated, and highly entertaining Western. I've been told he studied this role (as he does all his roles)for an extensive period of time, and the results are truly incredible. From the witty "Does this mean we're not friends? Because, Ed, if I didn't think I was your friend...I just don't think I could bear it!" to the inscrutable "I'm your huckelberry" I left this movie repeating the lines in my head. Thank you Mr. Kilmer for your portrayal of this hardcore, slightly tempered, gunfighter with a deathwish. As for the other characters, I could love em or leave em. Billy Bob Thornton's 10 minute portrayal of Johnny Tyler is spectacular and Michael Biehn's "Johnny Ringo" is superb. Although jazzed up a bit, real historical accounts tell these same stories. What a romantic, sinister period of our history, and Tombstone truly and masterfully represents it!
Rating: Summary: It maybe new, but this is one classic western Review: This is one of my favorite films. I've watched it again and again. Great cast, very good telling of a known story. Val Kilmer should have won an academy award for this one. This ranks up there with any western. Very realistic sets, costume. Loved it
Rating: Summary: Broughton has done it again, superbly, on this soundtrack. Review: For those of you who don't know, Broughton also composed the music for Silverado. Again, he brings to Tombstone that Coplandesque, frontier feel that is uniquely the American West. From the opening title The Cowboys, to the end title Looking at Heaven, Broughton creates and maintains the feel of Tombstone of the 1880's and the times of the Earps, Holiday and Clantons. One of my favorite pieces is A Family. From the first strains of this track, Broughton brings forth a feeling of family, happiness and a foreshadowing of the sadness that the Earps will meet in Tombstone. Another wonderful track is Fortuitous Encounter. Here is the high spirited feel of the west that reminds one of Aaron Copeland and what makes the West what it was. The tracks are all first rate and well worth the listen to.
Rating: Summary: This is a GREAT movie!!! Review: I have watch this movie so many times. Val Kilmer plays a great Doc Holliday. Kurt Russell is good too. The best western I've seen in a long time.
Rating: Summary: This is a Great movie. Review: I have seen this movie so many times, that I can't count anymore. This move Was Great, I could have been better. A few of the shortcuts, Like not having rain on all of the visible streets when Morgan dies. Or when Morgan's Blood dosen't wash off of Wyatt in the rain. But there are too many Great lines in this to even quote one. I would say it is a MUST SEE. But only about 20 or 30 times, I should say.Hey when is the wide screen version coming out?
Rating: Summary: I probably shouldn't have seen this film a second time. Review: Tombstone is an interesting film in that it came out at the same time as the superior (I feel) Wyatt Earp. I saw Tombstone first, and although I thought it to be a good movie with a great, and often funny, performance from Val Kilmer, I felt the film was uneven (I didn't like it near as much the second time around). Russell is solid as the stone-faced lawman, but the representation of Ringo and the Clantons seemed typical Hollywood. Unlike Wyatt Earp (which tries to be an epic--showing the life of the famous lawman), Tombstone centers only around the time he and his brothers moved to that Arizona town. As noted in the other reviews of both films, it's surprising Hollywood chose to show the shootings of Morgan and Virgil Earp on the same evening and not months apart as had actually happened (probably due to movie length constrants). Between 1 and 10, I give Tombstone a solid 6. It's well worth the rental or purchase, if for no other reason than seeing Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday.
Rating: Summary: one of my favorite westerns Review: val kilmer and kurt russel are av excellent pair together.the movie is smart, quick, and just cant be described in words. doc's one-liners were an excellent additoin.
