Rating: Summary: Awm your Huckleberry! Review: "Tombstone" is a wild ride through the violent western frontier. Of course, the Wyatt Earp legend has been embellished somewhat by Hollywood. Regardless, "Tombstone" is non-stop action with bad guys you love to hate and heroes you can't wait to see take them down. And what an all-star cast it has!Val Kilmer, who is an underrated actor, steals the show with his excellent portrayal of the TB- ridden Doc Hoilliday. Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and western film veteran Sam Elliot as his brother Virgil Earp also give great acting performances, though it is hard to look past Kurt Russell's handlebar mustache. It also stars Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn and a brief role from Charlton Heston. Though containing profanity and violence, I've seen harsher 14A movies that deserve more of an R rating compared to "Tombstone". If "Wyatt Earp" with Kevin Costner had the action and pizzazz of "Tombstone", what a great movie it could have been! "Tombstone" is a must see!
Rating: Summary: Best Western Review: This movie is awesome. Val Kilmer's performance as Doc Holiday is astonishing. He says many unforgettable things such as "I'm ya huckleberry". This movie is worth buying even if you haven't seen it. I recommend this film for all people over the age of 12.
Rating: Summary: almost wyatt Review: It is impossible not to compare "Tombstone" with "Wyatt Earp". Kurt Russell is tough enough, but somehow lacks the darkness of Costner's Earp. It is a toss-up between Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday and Dennis Quaid's, both actors gave extraordinary performances. "Tombstone" seems to stretch a little with things like the Red Sash Cowboy gang (actually a conceit of Kansas border irregulars) and falls apart during the Earp vendetta. I don't understand the need to stray that far from accuracy when the real story is so fascinating. The change in directors hurt "Tombstone" a lot. The subsequent disorganization reduced it to a good, but not great western. In spite of my critical observations, I love both movies and have watched each of them several times. If you like westerns, you can do a lot worse.
Rating: Summary: This movie fails miserably as a depiction of Wyatt Earp Review: The only reason this film gets 3 stars from me is Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. Kurt Russell played Snake Plissken yet again, with the same results as "Escape from New York." The whole premise of the film was laughable, this "Cowboy gang" that the Earps were supposedly fighting. Want a _GOOD_ movie about Earp, Holliday and the rest? Watch "Wyatt Earp". Everything in Tombstone felt hackneyed, played, boring, trite and weak. The endless scenes of Russell riding down yet another doofus in a red sash were painful to watch, as exciting as the made-up history they used to base the film's conflict on. Where are the families the Earps fought? As good as Val Kilmer was, he was OWNED by Dennis Quaid's Holliday in "Wyatt Earp". From script to cast to plot to cinematography, Tombstone is inferior in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY to "Wyatt Earp". If you pass it up because you dislike Kevin Costner, you're missing a hell of a movie for the wrong reason. Tombstone was weak as a historical Western. Had the producers decided to make a fictitious setting, it would have been much more enjoyable to me. As it was, I was extremely disappointed.
Rating: Summary: tombstone Review: This is a top notch western! Look out Clint Eastwood! The action never stops. Val Kilmer gives a first rate performance as Doc holiday, and not only does it have Kurt Russell as Wyatt you get Sam Elliott too. The best gunfights I have seen since Pale Rider. Definately two thumbs way up.
Rating: Summary: What would you like on your Tombstone? Review: This movie is the best! If you don't like westerns you should slap on your boots and chaps and go for it! I never liked Val Kilmer, but after seeing this movie I like him a lot. He was absolutely brilliant. The story line is awesome and there is plenty of action and good ol' comedy. Who can ever forget the seen with Curly Bill getting high and shooting the moon? There are so many unforgettable scenes in the movie I could never list them all. I recommend this movie to absolutely everyone, I don't know how to explain why, but just watch it, it is unforgetable. Thanks
Rating: Summary: UNDERRATED Review: This is the first review I have done for a movie. I picked this one out solely for the fact that it is the most under rated movie I have ever seen. I have never heard this movie advertised befoe it came out. WHY! This was possibly the greatest western movie I have ever seen. (This coming from a huge Clint Eastwood fan) The cover of the movie quotes KLOP-TV in LA saying "One of this years top 10 movies"! To me it was the best movie that year by far. Best performance I have seen Kurt Russell do. As good as he was, Val Kilmer acted cirles around him. If you have never seen this movie because there was no big hype, forget all that, buy it. Great movie.
Rating: Summary: Tombstone Review: This movie is my favorite of all time. I have been nicknamed "Doc" by some of my closest friends due to the fact I quote the lines of Val Kilmer's awesome portrayal of John "Doc" Holliday. Val Kilmer will steal the movie in the viewer's eye when he flips the coin across his knuckle to his last line, "This is funny." I have watched this movie at least 20 times and I will be watching it again soon. Do yourself a favor and watch it too!
Rating: Summary: The best all-around western Review: I am a die-hard westerns fan and I must have every title from Unforgiven to How the West Was Won. However this is one of the best. It combines, humor, great acting and outrageous gunfighting scenes. I have this on VHS & DVD. A must to any type of movie collector.
Rating: Summary: A potential (cult?) classic! Review: While this movie may never achieve the critical acclaim it deserves, there is a grassroots appreciation for this movie that points out, once again, the different worlds of professional movie critics and the movie-viewing public. For example, Leonard Maltin describes Dana Delany as 'goofy' in this production. Personally, I found her captivating, and -- for some reason -- the most attractive I have ever seen her. Kurt Russell turns in another excellent performance, proving once again that he has grown considerably as an actor over the years. The performances of Michael Biehn, Sam Elliott, Powers Boothe, Billy Bob Thornton, Bill Paxton, Billy Zane, Jason Priestly, Joanna Pacula, even Charlton Heston, in supporting roles -- major and minor -- are carefully crafted and played to perfection. But in my book Val Kilmer steals the show as Doc Holliday. Chalk this up as another excellent performance (e.g. Thunderheart) by the oft-maligned but excellent actor. Do yourselves a favor and view this movie as a stand-alone ... don't try to compare it to the other Wyatt Earp movies; don't compare it to history. Just enjoy it as it is -- a truly well-told tale, a violent love story (think True Romance set in the 19th century if you will), full of outstanding performances. This story (as are almost all tales about Earp) is heavily romanticized. History reveals that there were no good guys or bad guys in the power struggles that took place between town authorities, Earp's crowd, and The Cowboys. Nonetheless, the director has paid close attention to period accuracy in costume, language, and props. The firearms used -- an area that is often woefully researched -- are period accurate, with only the most minor license taken for cinematic effect. My guess is that in time this movie will establish itself as an audience favorite regardless of "expert" opinion. And the cast members have every reason to be proud of a truly fine ensemble performance.
