Rating: Summary: OMG Review: I still find it pretty amazing that the creator of JTHM, Squee, I Feel Sick, and other comics, got a cartoon on a childrens network. For anybody who has never seen Invader Zim, what are you waiting for, do a search on it now! This is probley the best cartoon you will ever see, it's really funny and just great! The animation rocks too! I can't wait until this comes out in the stores! My heart explodes with joy *boom*
Rating: Summary: Sweet mother of MONKEYS! Review: Yesh! Invader Zim on DVD. Will wonders never cease? I think I'm going to die from a happiness overload. This show is just awesome. I mean, how could you not love a show about a bumbling green alien invader with a Napolean complex? And a freaking hilarious robot? This, my people, is the makings for a grand T.V show. Thank you Media Blasters for bringing it to us. All the episodes and even the voiced parts of the episodes that weren't even animated yet. Bliss.
Rating: Summary: James Cameron meets Tim Burton meets David Lynch... Review: The only reason I can think of for why Invader ZIM made it to television in the first place is that, up to a certain point, no one at Nickelodeon actually bothered to watch the show. Thank goodness for that-- ZIM ranks as one of the most delightfully demented shows ever to pass itself off as "children's television." In creator Jhonen Vasquez's twisted worldview, "SKUL" is a hateful place where children go to have their spirits crushed (by hissing, demonic, wraithlike teachers) and most people are fat, mindless consumers eager to stuff their faces. Both of the series' protagonists-- the titular alien kid, who megalomaniacally plots to conquer Earth, and Dib, his nerdy, self-appointed nemesis-- are obnoxious little know-it-alls whose epic battle to destroy or save the world merits shrugs at best (and bored contempt at worst) from everyone around them. Zim is aided in his efforts by GIR, a sweetly malfunctioning robot who serves as the id to Zim's ego; Dib's sometime ally is Gaz, his inexplicably angry little sister, who is as likely to beat Dib up as save his bacon. All this subversive, queasily funny weirdness is bolstered by lavish production values, dazzling integration of traditional and computer animation, and the sort of thrilling action scenes you'd expect to find in summer blockbusters. It's a wonder this series lasted as long as it did before (undoubtedly awed and horrified) Nick execs pulled the plug. The show's sense of humor leans far toward the disturbing-- perhaps it was the fanged, acid-drooling monster babies who finally sealed the show's fate, or the monstrous, tentacled robo-Santa who tries to eat the world? At any rate, fans of offbeat comedy, weird science fiction, and high-quality animation will find tons to enjoy in this inspired series.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST SHOW FROM NICKELODEON EVER! Review: I have watched this show since its premier episode a few years ago, and I must say, this is the best show to come from Nickelodeon ever. While it is much darker than many children's cartoons, it is not overly excessive in violence. I am a huge Jhonen Vasquez fan and I believe this is something anyone who enjoys his works should own. If you have never read any of Jhonen Vasquez's work, this is a good starting point. His unique visual style is unforgetable and modern. Not only do his drawing catch the eye, his uniquely dark characters and stories will keep the reader, or in this case watcher, enthralled. This is the most light, least depressing and violent of his works. If you do enjoy Jhonen Vasquez, Roman Dirge is another great writer. I CAN'T WAIT!!!
Rating: Summary: GAH! THE HAPPIEST RUNS THROUGH MY VEINS! Review: finally, i have been hoping this would happen. I got a zim dvd off ebay but I am soooo getting this for the commentary and extras, as well as to help fuel the genious of mr. vasquez.
Rating: Summary: My dreams and prayers have been answered! Review: I have worshiped Invader Zim ever since the day it was born and I have two tapes of recorded episodes that I use to draw the characters and decorate my room. When I found out that it was coming out on DVD (Only like a month ago), I almost cried with joy. This is truly a wonderful TV show, animated or not, and it's finally getting the attention it deserves. Zim, the overly determined and somewhat crazy invader who just wants to prove himself worthy in a world where he is isolated, can be compared to many of us who are just trying to make our mark on the world. Gir, the lovable and fun-loving little robot, is like the child that lives within each of us. Dib's obsessive beliefs and theories relate to the things that we try to hold on to in the chaos we call reality. And Gaz is the anti-social, shadow-loving girl who we can relate to on really annoying days when people won't leave us alone.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Nicktoons ever! Review: (...) Invader Zim is a show all ages really can enjoy. This animation series is just what cartoons are supposed to be - just downright silly. I would say it's right up there with Spongebob Squarepants on content. I highly recommend either purchasing or renting this DVD for you or your kids.(...) It's for those who just enjoy comedic cartoons. This will definetly be one for your collection, as it will be for mine. And seeing that it will be released the same month as LOTR-RTK, you can't go wrong. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: THANK GIR!!! Finally, I can clear off my freakin' Tivo! Review: I didn't think I'd get to catch this show on DVD (at least "legal" dvds - wink). I really hated to see the idiot programming gods nix this one before it had a chance. I loved the humor, style and wit and I'm about 25 years out of the target audience range. I foresee a heavy rotation in the DVD changer...
