Summary: The Simpsons at their best
Review: The Simpsons had hit their stride in this, the third season. The sappy endings that filled most of the first two seasons were gone, the animation and colors were no longer stiff or quite as washed out and grainy looking, and the voices for the first time sounded clear and perfect. The stories and episodes were also some of the best, and here it was still a surpirse to see guest stars and guest voices on the show (In the episode HOMER DEFINED, Homer sounds ecstatic when he hears that Magic Johnson has called him up at the Power Plant).

This season on top of all of the visual imporvements also showed us some of the most entertaining and memorable episodes. LISA'S PONY has Homer turning into a zombie doing the graveyard shift at the Kwik E Mart to pay for Lisa's new Pony, a pony he bought for her after ruining her talent show audition. SEPERATE VOCATIONS has Bart and Lisa switching personalities after taking the Career Aptitute Normalizing Test (or CAN'T) a test to tell you what field you would be best in. Bart cleans up his act, and is offered a hall monitor job at school after hearing he should be a cop, a disgusted Lisa turns tough after reciving Home Maker instead of blues artist. FLAMING MOE'S has Homer's own alcohalic drink saving Moe's Tavern, with Moe taking all of the credit and Homer getting nothing. BART THE LOVER has Bart toying with his lonely teachers feelings by sending her love letters to her, while she thinks it's a man who answered her personal's ad. THE OTTO SHOW is one of everybody's favorites with Bart's pal Otto losing his bus drivers job and having to live with the Simpsons. Finally, I MARRIED MARGE has Homer retelling the kids how he proposed to Marge and his struggles to find a job with Bart on the way. There are PLENTY of other good episodes to talk about in this season such as the softball episode, the episode where German investors buy the power plant and the soapbox derby episode (hopefully will be released in it's original un-cut fashion, even when shown the first couple of times back in 90-91 some scenes were edited out.)

The next best thing after this will truly be the next best season of the Simpsons, which is season 4 which also had some excellent episodes, ( DUFFLESS, A STREETCAR NAMED MARGE, HOMER THE HERETIC, ITCHY & SCRATCHY THE MOVIE along with the immortal KAMP KRUSTY.) If season 3 is the best, then season 4 is a close 2ed or maybe 1a and 1b. When this season is released, it might be one of the best DVD sets ever. Anyone who calls themselves Simpsons fans needs this set as theirs hardly a stinker in the bunch. Get it!!

Summary: 24 classics
Review: By this season The Simpsons have reached the peak of their popularity. The problems with the first two seasons are gone with this one. By this season we didn't have the washed out look of the first seasons and we were treated with twentyfour episodes of satirical brilliance. The storylines of these episodes were the best the series has seen and the voice-acting was what it would continue to be throughout the rest of the series.

This season contained some of the most memorable episodes this show has seen like Flaming Moe's, and Like Father Like Clown. This season also featured guest stars such as Michael Jackson, Joe Mantegna, Neil Patrick Harris, Chick Hearn, Magic Johnson Jackie Mason, Catherine O'Hara, Aerosmith, Terry Cashman, Beverly D'Angelo, Spinal Tap, Kimmy Robertson, Joe Frazier etc. Episodes feature Homer inventing a new alchoholic beverage, Lisa getting a pony, A retelling of the early days of Marge and Homer, a company softball team featuring Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Ken Griffey Jr., Steve Sax, Don Mattingly, Ozzie Smith, Darryl Strawberry, Joe Canseco and Mike Scoscia, the return of Herbert Powell, Homer's brother, and much more. This season is definetly my pick as the defining season of The Simpsons. It's also one of the reasons why The Simpsons is the best show on television.

This set will also feature specials such as: Disc One:
Commentary on all episodes. When Flanders Failed pop-up Storyboards & sketches. Disc Two: Commentary on all episodes. Flaming Moe's pop-up Storyboards. Multi Language (Treehouse Of Horror II) Sketeches. Disc Three: Commentary on all episodes. Baby Translator. Radio Bart pop-up Storyboards & Sketches. Simpsons Character Poster. Audio Outtakes. Disc Three: Commentary on all episodes. Colonel Homer pop-up Storyboards & Sketches. Jukebox Feature.

This is the ultimate set for fans of The Simpsons brimming with special features to perfectly compliment this brilliant season.

Summary: Great season on the way to the peak
Review: Season three is where the show comes in the magic period of faultless episodes and incredible plots unlike today's junk. After the crude animation of the first two seasons the animation improves dramtically.

26-Sep-1991 Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington
03-Oct-1991 When Flanders Failed
10-Oct-1991 Bart the Murderer
17-Oct-1991 Homer Defined
24-Oct-1991 Like Father, Like Klown
31-Oct-1991 Tree House of Horror II: A Simpsons Halloween
07-Nov-1991 Lisa's Pony
14-Nov-1991 Saturdays of Thunder
21-Nov-1991 Flaming Moe's
05-Dec-1991 Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk
26-Dec-1991 I Married Marge
09-Jan-1992 Radio Bart
23-Jan-1992 Lisa the Greek
06-Feb-1992 Homer Alone
13-Feb-1992 Bart the Lover
20-Feb-1992 Homer at the Bat
27-Feb-1992 Separate Vocations
12-Mar-1992 Dog of Death
26-Mar-1992 Colonel Homer
09-Apr-1992 Black Widower
23-Apr-1992 The Otto Show
07-May-1992 Bart's Friend Falls in Love
27-Aug-1992 Brother Can You Spare Two Dimes?

These episodes are classics Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington and When Flanders Failed are to of my favourite. The other are just as good, really there are no faults in this season and the next four seasons are just as good if not better. The plots are really good here, especially flaming moe's which is a true classic i love that episode so much. This is the peak of tv, nothing comes close to the simpsons at it's best...

Summary: Season 3 Is A MUST BUY!
Review: Fans of the show can't deny the fact that the 3rd season of The Simpsons was the first which actually LOOKS like the show we see today. The animation is much more fluid than the two preceeding seasons. The voice actors have the characters' voices nailed down to a "T", in addition to the fact that the storylines are much more exubrant. This DVD set will contain all 24 uncut episodes from season 3. Here they are in chronological order.

1. STARK RAVING DAD (guest voice: Michael Jackson)
2. MR. LISA GOES TO WASHINGTON
3. WHEN FLANDERS FAILED
4. BART THE MURDERER (guest voice: Neil Patrick Harris)
5. HOMER DEFINED (guest voice: Earvin "Magic" Johnson)
6. LIKE FATHER LIKE CLOWN (guest voice: Jackie Mason)
7. TREEHOUSE OF HORROR II
8. LISA'S PONY
9. SATURDAYS OF THUNDER
10. FLAMING MOE'S (guest voices: Aerosmith)
11. BURNS VERKAUFEN DER KRAFTWERK
12. I MARRIED MARGE
13. RADIO BART (guest voice: Sting)
14. LISA THE GREEK
15. HOMER ALONE
16. BART THE LOVER
17. HOMER AT THE BAT (guest voices: Darryl Strawberry, Ken Griffey Jr, Steve Sax, Roger Clemens, Jose Conseco, Don Mattingly, Ozzie Smith, Wade Boggs & Mike Scioscia)
18. SEPARATE VOCATIONS (guest voice: Steve Allen)
19. DOG OF DEATH
20. COLONEL HOMER (guest voice: Beverly D'Angelo)
21. BLACK WIDOWER (guest voice: Kelsey Grammer)
22. THE OTTO SHOW (guest voices: Spinal Tap)
23. BART'S FRIEND FALLS IN LOVE
24. BROTHER, CAN YOU SPARE TWO DIMES? (guest voices: Danny DeVito & Joe Frazer)

In addition to these great episodes, this set is sure to feature some incredible extras which surround the 1991-92 season, such as magazine covers, tv spots, interviews, a documentary, etc. In my humble opinion, the episodes themselves make this set worth every cent. I'm still eagerly anticipating the release of the season 2 set. Hopefully, this one won't be far behind.

Summary: Essential television
Review: The Simpsons finally pick up speed. These shows are funny and extremely emotional at times. These shows prove that Homer and Marge are the greatest television couple of all time. This is proof that television doesn't have to dumb down to cater to the lowest common denominator to be hugely popular. What other show tugs so greatly and unpretentiously at the heartstrings (see "I Married Marge", where Homer tells Marge, "you will not see me until I become a man"), and makes you laugh out loud at jokes that aren't smarmy or too ironic (the great Spinal Tap episode). Bart and Lisa's relationship is brilliantly illustrated in "Separate Vocations", where Lisa turns into a rebel after a career test. Nowadays (especially this rather-good last season), The Simpsons are the funniest sitcom on TV, but this DVD set shows how they used to be so much more; honest, real characters with heart and humor. No other show can pull off this kind of material so naturally and in a way that alienates absolutely no one. It's amazing once you realize that season four perfected the show. This set, however, is great, even though there's the bare menus, and aside from the funny and quite educational commentaries, few extras. The transfer is a tad weird (cells are dirty) but the sound is top-notch. Buy this.

Summary: A must-own
Review: If you're like me, you are probably very disappointed with the continuing downfall of Simpsons humor. If that is the case, buy this volume. I guarantee it will make you remember why you love the show.

I was in first grade when these episodes were first aired, which made it all the better for me because I finally got so many of the jokes that I didn't understand before. And the idiots at Fox never bother to air the classics from seasons 3-6 anymore, so I was glad to finally be able to watch episodes that I hadn't seen since they were practically new, like my all-time favorite, "Homer at the Bat."

A must-own for all Simpsons fans, especially those who think that the show's glory years are long past.

Summary: This one is worth having after all
Review: Although I'am more psyched about season 4, and up...Season 3 is a great season. When I first thought about it, I thought I didn't want season 3, but I forgot how many great episodes were in it, it starts to estblish the comedy and halarious one-liners we all know and love today. So definetly a must own for hardcore simpsons fans (I'm also buying it for the extras)

Summary: Funniest Season of All Time
Review: Maybe there were many funnier episodes in other seasons, but a compilation like this is extraordinary.

The Simpson's finally settled in as a genre of it's own by the third season. The characters were fully defined, the voices were honed to the rich voices we still hear 12 seasons later and the story line became set.

There are some great one liners in all of these episodes, from dialog between Burns and Smithers to Burns' always saying "Simpson, eh?" this stuff is just a laugh a minute.

One of the best lines, oh so subtle is when Homer flashes back to first being hired at the power plant, Burns turns around to Smithers and asks Homer's name. Burns replies, "Simpson, eh? I will remember that chap...." The funniest part of that is that all of the previous episodes that season features Burns frustratingly asking Smithers whom Simpson is. How hilarious.

There also is the added bonus of great musical pieces too. Jackson sings a song: "Lisa it's Your Birthday." What a happy piece of music, silly? yes, fun? yes, but so what! it's a cartoon.

I think this is the season that really made the Simpson's stick out, Homer with Flanders, Krusty the Clown's life, Homer and Moe. The Flaming Moe episode is just one laugh after another. Also, Homer Defined set up future ideas you will see in later episodes. The underlying theme of "It's a Wonderful Life" in "When Flanders Failed." Wow, this stuff just kept getting better and funnier.

The special features are okay, there are some interesting side lines with the story being discussed by the artists behind the show. Stark Raving Dad has some really funny things in it. Besides featuring Michael Jackson, even hearing the song "Crazy" being played while Marge is holding trying to find out why Homer is incarcerated in a mental institution. Funny, funny funny.

Get this one and the others too. This is worth the investment for years of just plain fun.

Summary: One of the better seasons
Review: I love the Simpsons. They are my only favorite American family sitcom. I mean, what's up with all these crap sitcoms that Fox is producing? Malcom in the Middle? Bernie Mac? ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT?! What is this hellish world coming to? Anyway, if you love (like is okay too) sitcoms then I would reccomend this. The best American animation, they don't cost nearly as much as Dragon Ball Z box sets (most of which cost in excess of over $50.00 for 13 or 14 episodes) and you 24 episodes! 24! I can't wait for the 4th season to be released in June. That one will be well worth it because the Simpsons is the best American family sitcom to date!
