Summary: At a Loss for Words to describe this beautiful Art
Review: Roots...I first was introduced to the miniseries in the 8th grade. I was instantly hit by it, in a good way. I only saw 45 minutes of the almost 7-8 hour movie, I fell in love with it. Just recently, a Roots Marathon came on the television and I watched the entire thing. From Kunte Kinte to Chicken George and his long-lineage of friends and family finally be freed from their "taxes" and have their land to themselves. My eyes were filled with tears from the moment the movie began and until the movie ended. Roots is a spectacular movie. The acting is wonderful. However the powerful moments comes in personal introspection. When one realizes how dehumanizing and how completely wrong, for lack of better word, it is to subject any person to slavery based on some outer physical characteristic...it is absurd. My heart still is reaching out to all the African-Americans who endured slavery and the post-effects of slavery continuing up to this day. Roots allows us to see the pitfalls of the "land of the free...all men are created equal"...how dare the United States make that assumption. Roots shows us that we still have a long way to go before all men are created equal. This is the best miniseries and all-time classics everyone should own.

Summary: A story you will never forget
Review: It took me a long time to decide to watch the Roots collection of videos. But all I had been told about the story could not, in any way, prepare me for what I was about to watch. It's a real tear-jerker. How human beings can be so cruel to others because of their skin colour is totally beyond me. I'm almost ashamed to say I am white!

I have actually visited the small town of Juferre - close to the Gambia, Africa and met one of Kunta Kinte's living descendants. Seeing her brought the whole story back for me.

Summary: sweeping and emotionally touching
Review: Roots did much for the historical enlightenment of Blacks ,but to a larger degree for all of America too. People of all groups could possibly see the injustice all people have suffered at one time or other. Its a lesson we should all remember so that history, again, does not repeat itself.

Summary: This movie was incredible. It had a very great plot.
Review: Roots is a miraculous film about slavery in the late 1700's. It is a wonderful film. It is hard to believe that this long of movie could be interesting. It is very touching and very detailed. I can't wait till I read the book.

Summary: Excellent view of a difficult time in American history.
Review: I've used this movie for many years in my fifth grade American History classroom. I started out just using Parts I and II to give a sense of family in another culture, and to show what the Middle Passage was like. However, my fifth graders usually want to continue through the entire six parts! Excellent!
