Summary: WOW!
Review: I adored this movie on TV which was such a surprise because I usually find their fantasy mini-series barely passable. They're usually effects-focused rather than story-driven. Not so with this one. All the tales are very interesting & the love story is very sincere. One of the other reviews claimed there were some scenes cut. No, there weren't. I have a junky copy from when it aired and it's all there. Buy this movie! You will not be sorry.

Summary: A let down!
Review: I don't know what they were thinking when this video was edited. I saw this when it first appeared on television and loved it. But the best parts are cut out! A real disappointment. I don't recommend the edited version.

Summary: Good Nights
Review: I feel bad for this movie. It's such a great show, yet it receives very little recognition. It follows the story of a woman during an Arabian warfare who has to continuously tell her husband stories if she wants to keep her life. Hence, the movie elaborately acts out each of her tales. Ha, it's wonderful! The sub-stories are short enough that you won't grow tired of them. They range from comical, romantic, action-packed, interesting, and insightful; and some are even great versions of well-known tales as Aladdin and the Forty Thieves. -- The photography of the show doesn't make sense at times, but the special effects are fantastic and the plot and sub-plots are well-done. Beware, though, this is one long movie. Of course, it's all good stuff. If you enjoy fantasy tales or similar Arabian stories, then you really need to check this one out... one way or another.

Summary: It has everything.
Review: I loved this television production. It has adventure, romance, evil-doers, magic, war, swords flashing. What more could you want? It is the best I have seen on television for a long time. I can't wait to see it again and again.

Summary: Vanessa-Mae's debut as an actress
Review: I ordered the video 'Arabian Nights' because one of my favourite artist plays her dedut role in this movie: that is the famous violinist Vanessa-Mae. However seeing the movie, I find it very entertaining. Acting performances are good. The whole setting of the story is nice. Costumes, special effects and music are all very good and functional in the movie. So I'am glad that I saw this video, appart from the fact that I bought it because Vanessa-Mae is in it. What about the role of Vanessa-Mae. I think she made a very good choice for her debut as an actress. I think she can be satisfied with her performance. I see it as good and convincing. If she has the ambition, she can devellop into a fine actress.

Summary: Arabian Nights: Vanessa-Mae's debut as an actress
Review: I ordered the video Arabian Nights simple because my favorite artist Vanessa-Mae is in it for her debut as an actress. Vanessa-Mae is a well known and celebrated violinist. However, seeing this movie I find it very entertaining. Costumes, music and special effects are very good and functional. Acting performances are good in general, but remain a little flat because of the fairy tale type setting. Dialogues are short all the time. What about the role of Vanessa-Mae? I think she made a very good choice for her acting debut. She is convincinng as the beautiful princess Zobeide. I think Vanessa-Mae can devellop herself into a good actressa. This means, if she has the ambition to do so.

Summary: Great, but don't get the VHS version
Review: I rented this flick on DVD. I really liked it, so I bought it on video previously viewed. Man, the editor the ... out of it for the VHS. They cut out maybe 20 lines and one whole story that I really liked, (The film is a series of folktales.) I want to get it on DVD, but my mom says it's a waste of money.

Summary: Astounding interpretation
Review: I saw this masterpiece on TV as a two part serial and was totally entranced. The story telling was magical and held together with the greatest of threads by Scherezade.

The stories themselves, parables that would put Kaiser Soza to shame, unfold in a dream like quality with good and bad being played out on the screen. Most notable are Aladdin (played by Jason Scott Lee with Vanessa Mae as the princess), the death of the sultan's favourite jester and the story of the three brothers.

If the ancient nomads had television and CGI when they recounted tales around the campfires, this is how it would look.

Summary: Disappointment
Review: I watched Arabian Nights on television and I loved it. I loved everything about it: the storyline, the acting, the scenery, the costumes, everything. I was so looking forward to getting this video. I was so disappointed when I realized that the editors of this movie cut out crucial scenes that were included in the televised movie. It's basically a choppy mess. Some of the edited out portions were subtle but I knew where the cuts were. A good movie should flow smoothly. For example, the story about Amin the beggar and Abrashield were entirely cut out. That's a crucial part of the movie. It's when the sultan realizes what his brother is doing to him. Without that part, the scene doesn't make sense. Two stars for this video, no stars for the editor.

Summary: Arabian Nights
Review: If you enjoy fantasy, myth and lore--Arabian Nights is for you. Falling in a genre with such movies as Merlin and Jason and the Argonauts, this movie will take you on a magic carpet ride (Yes, there is a magic carpet) with beautiful special effects! I felt the beginning was a bit slow but once I realized that there were some wonderful stories to be told, I became entranced. My 7 year old daughter has me return to Aladdin and Ali Baba over and over again (thank goodness for DVD) A must have for any DVD collector! This is fun filled with great story telling by Mili Avital as Scheherazade. Of course, John Lequizamo as the "Genie of the lamp" is one of the premier character actors of all time. 5 stars for Arabian Nights!
