Summary: overall failure
Review: Two enthusiastic thumbs down! Who's in charge of this circus freak-show?!! An over-played series of dreadfully pathetic shows.A humiliating saga of a boyish youth who tries to save the Brittish navy. What a great idea! I get more excited watching cartoon network! Hardly A&E material.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Superb.
Review: It would be very easy to portray Hornblower as a prig or "goody-two-shoes", but Ioan Gruffudd has captured the three-dimesional essence of the character. Fine acting, good writing, and wonderful production values have brought a childhood favorite to life. Top drawer.

Summary: It left me breathless and wanting more
Review: I DO NOT NEED A 1,000 WORDS TO EXPRESS MY FEELINGS.HORATIO HORNBLOWER surpasses excellence. The set will be a most welcome addition to my collection of videos. It bowled me over when I saw him,my son and him look so much alike they could be twins. Thank you so much. The acting,drama,f/x,story line is so great.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: Due to working nights, I usually ignore ads on TV for 'exciting' new shows that are forthcoming. However I happened to be on vacation when Horatio Hornblower made it's appearance on A&E and so I watched. Boy did I watch! Wow! I've seen the first three videos and I am very impressed with the story as well as the special effects (the naval battles are well done). I plan to purchase this set as soon as it comes out!

Summary: This is a great series for all!
Review: I've only seen the first two movies of the series which have been aired on A&E, but have heard from others in England where the entire series has already been shown, and they all agreed. This is a tremendous series! The acting is first class, starring Ioan Gruffud (pronounced Yo-an Griffiths), the characters are noble, loyal, and dynamic, and the action is enough to keep any man entertained for two hours. The violence isn't overwhelming, but the batles are portrayed accurately. This is a great series for the entire family because there is action and heroicism for the men, romance and honor for the women, and history with a twist to get the kids interested in reading. I rate this a definite must see!

Summary: FABULOUS!
Review: I have been introduced to this via A&E, and now I'm hooked. To have this for my very own collection would be a precious asset. Outstanding direction along side a talented cast. One of the best depictions of the sorts. This will transport you back into time. Hats off to Ioan Gruffud (Yo-Anne Griffith). A new talent on his way to stardom will undoubtably mesmerize you with his subtle innocence good-looks, and talent.

Summary: Ship of the line
Review: I have seen the first two installments of the series on A&E and I must say that it is probably the most extraordinary movie made for TV that I have seen. Ioan Gruffud is brilliant as Hornblower and is supported by an equally fine cast. The script is well-adapted from the novels and the sea battles are absolutely thrilling. I haven't thought much of these stories since I read them when I was young, but now I find myself rereading them because of this series. It is refreshing to see a production so well done, and given enough time (4 parts, 2hours each)on television. Hornblower is a rare and exciting treat. Three cheers and a tot of rum to producer, director, cast and crew!!!

Summary: Outstanding
Review: An outstanding preformance of Naval warfare at the height of it's violence of action, and a well done showing of a true young hero and gentleman. Rate's right with Sharpe's adventures as a well told story and a great peice of British history.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Wonderfully done!!
Review: When I first saw that A&E was airing this, I thought, "Oh well, it might be interesting..." I could care less. I missed it on its opening night on Sunday, but recorded it on Tuesday. When I watched it I was spellbound. It is acted to perfection and the battle scenes are the finest I've ever seen. C.S. Forester would be proud that these talented actors and actresses are doing full justice to his novel. These videos are treasures that you can watch again and again, and as an added bonus, Ioan Gruffudd is one of the cutest actors around!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: WOW
Review: C.F.Forester might find fault with this video BUT it is the best historical re-enactment of naval history of the times that I have seen.
