Summary: Degrassi Junior High Season 1 Review
Review: Degrassi Junior High was the ground breaking series that aired in the late 80's on PBS. This series featured teens that real teens could identify with. These teens dealt with real life issues like sex, dating, teen pregnancy, parental abuse, divorce, shoplifting and other serious issues were addressed in a realitic manner. This groundbreaking series has never appeared on DVD until now.

All of the kids on the show were memorable characters. There was Steph, the popular girl who had her fair share of problems. There was Voula, the girl with the strict parents who wanted so badly to just fit in. Wheels has to deal with the fact that he was adopted and Lucy seems to have it all but her parents aren't there for her when she needs them. Joey, was a popular kid who was dedicated to his band. Kathleen is the quirky girl with a big crush on Snake. L.D. is the tomboy and Caitlen is a little on the prissy and proper side. These kids were so regular this could have been any junior high in the world.

One of the most memorable storylines on the show was the relationship between Spike and Shane. These opposites attracted and as season 1 comes to a close Spike has to deal with the fact that her period is late and she may be pregnant. This story line carries on throughout the seasons. Most of the Degrassi story lines weren't completly solved in the half hour format. Each characters story was well developed and viewers wanted to keep watching. One such storyline was of Wheels and the fact that he was adopted. This storyline was very important to the series, and in one episode during season 1, Wheels comes face to face with his birth father-who also happens to be a musician.

Season 1 of Degrassi Junior High arrives on three discs. Each disc is enclosed in it's own protective case. Season 1 includes 13 episodes.

If you are a teen, you will enjoy taking a trip back in time to the 80's and watching how teens back then dealt with many of the issues that you may be facing today.

If you are a parent or an educator now is your chance to get this groundbreaking television series on DVD. Priced much more reasonably than the VHS sets, this is an affordable collection that will be a great addition to your classroom. The picture quality is awesome and these episodes look and sound better than ever.

Degrassi Junior High was spawned from the Canadian series The Kids of Degrassi Street. When Degrassi Junior High ended, Degrassi High began it's run. Degrassi is still growing strong with the popular series Degrassi-The Next Generation.

The DVD also includes segments from the "Degrassi Talks" series. The "Degrassi Talks" segments seem quited dated in comparison to the series. The "Degrassi Talks" educational segments which include commentary from the shows actors and regular teens touch on subjects addressed in the show like drugs and sexuality. I love this set and can't wait for future releases.

Summary: wonderful television show but...
Review: I love this television show. It's release on DVD made me very happy. I watched this show when it was originally broadcasted on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) television station in Toronto. It is a classic and it's DVD release was long overdue. I am a little disappointed though. The transfer is not of good quality. There are scratches and hair particles
in frame. I probably could have gotten a better quality picture if I had taped it off TV myself. The Boston public tv station WGBH who released the DVD should have put more effort into its picture quality. Also, I understand that this is not the complete original show. It is the version that was aired in America on public tv, which was edited and sanitized for American consumption. The original Canadian version was perfect. It should not have been tampered with. It is still a very worthwhile addition to my DVD collection and I think that you will enjoy it too.

Summary: THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!
Review: I remember watching this as a kid and man was this an awesome show. This show was more real about teenage topics than any show has ever been. They delt with suicide, teenage pregnancy, sex, dating, abortions... the list goes on and on. The stories didn't end up with cheesy sappy endings either. They were real and gritty. Thank goodness this is finally out on DVD. I'd advise everyone to get it.

Summary: 100% Intense
Review: Oh yeah, baby, the prequel to Degrassi the Next Generation is here. Even though it doesn't have any Spinner, because the actor who played Spinner was but a baby at the time, this show still rocks the house.

Summary: I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: With the NEW Degrassi on DVD, I was hoping they would eventully put the original on as well. Well my prayers have been answered
!!! They are gonna release Derassi Junior High the complete first season on DVD!!! All 13 episodes will be released Feb. 1st 2005, and here are the episodes you are gonna get...

"Kiss Me, Steph": When Steph swaps kisses for votes to become eighth-grade president, she learns some promises are easier given than kept.

"The Big Dance": Voula does the wrong thing for the right reason when she sneaks out to go to the big dance, much to her strict father's dismay.

"The Experiment": Arthur has a plan that will prove Mr. Raditch is biased against Yick, but ends up putting the "fool" in a foolproof idea.

"The Cover-Up": When Joey sees Rick get beaten by his father, Joey must decide whether to report the incident or keep it to himself and see his friend continue suffering.

"The Great Race": It's a battle of the sexes when L.D. challenges the boys' soccer squad to a relay swim meet against the girls' swim team.

"Rumor Has It": Sometimes it's tough to get a straight answer. Kathleen is spreading rumors that Ms. Avery is gay, which ultimately causes Caitlin to question her own sexuality.

"The Best Laid Plans": Stephanie asks Wheels out on a date, but bravado and overheard conversations lead both of them to imply to their friends that they're going to "do something" - though neither is sure that they're ready for it.

"Nothing To Fear": When L.D.'s dad goes into the hospital, L.D. is terrified. Years ago, her mother died while undergoing treatment at a hospital and L.D. is scared that her father may die also.

"What A Nigh"t: Lucy's clothes are always sophisticated - Voula wishes she could dress like her. Voula goes shopping with Lucy, but when she finds out Lucy doesn't pay for her clothes, it's too late - the police have been called.

"Smokescreen": When cynical Rick suddenly takes an interest in the Environmental Action Committee, Caitlin decides he can be redeemed if people will give him the chance.

"It's Late!": When Spike's period is late, she can hardly believe it - she never meant to go as far as she did with Shane. She is torn apart, not knowing what to tell Shane, or worse, her mother.

"Parents' Night": When Wheels' birth father shows up out of the blue, Wheels has to deal with his feelings about his adoptive parents, his birth parents, and who he really is.

"Revolution": To make Wheels jealous, Stephanie, the school president, puts Joey into the vacant post of Sports Rep. But the position is traditionally held by a seventh grader and the entire seventh grade class starts a move to impeach her.

They are also gonna release this as volumes if you dont wish to own the complete series, but my money is on the complete set. I just hope they continue with the rest of the series, as well as Degrassi High!!
