Summary: "Well, Blow Me Down!" Another 75th Anniversary Collection
Review: This has got to be the fourth Popeye 75th Anniversary DVD set I've seen so far, but this and the VCI set would be tied as the best of the public domain Popeye DVD's. This set contains the four previously released DVD's "When Popeye Ruled the Seven Seas", "When Popeye Ruled the World", "Popeye Fists of Fury" and "Popeye Greatest Tall Tales and Heroic Adventures", all of which contain cleaned up (not really remastered, but sort of color corrected) cartoons, some with added sound effects. This set doesn't have the clear picture quality of the VCI set, but it also doesn't have the authoring problems the VCI set does. This set also features one black and white Max Fleisher film not included on the VCI 2-disc set, "Me Feelin's is Hurt" (although the VCI set includes 3 Famous Studios shorts not included here, "Fright To The Finish", "Ancient Fistory" and "Greek Mirthology"). There are also two very nice extras: a short film on how Popeye cartoons were made, showing behind the scenes of "Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp" and a black and white Popeye and Brutus "Soaky Toy" commercial from the 1960's. I would recommend this set to people who don't want to spend a lot of money, but are looking for a good collection of Popeye cartoons for their kids (or anyone who remembers watching Popeye on TV every day after school...); more serious Popeye collectors may prefer the VCI set.
