Review: I'm glad this show is finally coming to DVD. If I only could buy one tv show on DVD it would honestly be this one. This is one of the best shows ever made. I can truly say there was never one show I never liked. I have my favorites and non favorites but every show for 9 years was superb. This is a must get.

Review: In this time of questionable morality, reality television programming it is a relief to find such a highly ethical, quality television program which warms the Heart & Spirit! Touched by an Angel is Heaven sent!

The episodes are well written and produced and they install in the viewer a sense of hope and inspiration that Love Will Prevail...

Summary: A Gift: A Full Season and Then Some...
Review: It would seem to be the trend for most TV writers to only write half as many episodes for a first season. In this case the first season of Touched By An Angel has 13 episodes. So, I'm thinking that the fact that this DVD collection has the entire first season (as promised) plus two EXTRA episodes (the two-part series finale)... is a gift for the consumer.

As for the mysterious "Fear Not" episode (#1.10), you can check an online episode guide to see that this was TBAA's Christmas episode for season one. The episode "The Feather" is actually the Christmas episode from season two (episode #2.11). So it was not a mistake that it is not in this DVD set. As a matter of fact... even though it was likely filmed much later, the writers were smart in making it seem as if it was the very next day. Also, there is a VHS version with both episodes shown back-to-back... almost as if they were one complete episode.

I can see how someone could have been mistaken or felt misled. But I hope this sets the record straight.

I never saw the two-part finale before I bought this DVD set... and for me it came at just the right time. I was truly "touched" by it, and I'm thankful for that.

Review: Lets get right to the point here. At the risk of offending loyal viewers of " Touched By An Angel " I cannot think of another television program that rankles me as much as this pious, self-riteous piece of clap-trap does. A show that resorts to using nearly every cheap trick in the book, a program that hijacks each viewers emotions and one in which every self-indulged drama is neatly wrapped up by resorting to the same God-like hocus pocus is, for this viewer, almost too painful to watch. Warning though...if you are a fan of this show I strongly urge you to stop reading this review and move on to one where the critique is, shall we say, more understanding of the nature of this so-called television drama.

Lets begin with Roma Downey. Playing an angel sent down to earth to presumably force her way into peoples lives apparently with the sole intent of getting into their business she uses this insufferable Irish lilt that is so patently phony that when subjected to this 'Irish lite' accent I wanted to throw my television thru the nearest window. Add to the fact that our Ms. Downey possess all the acting ability of a high school junior in her first production and you'll no doubt sense my misgivings. I'm sorry as I'm certain Ms. Downey is a wonderful person but watching this woman resort to the very same tired, cliched facial ticks thru each episode truly would wear on any viewer. Yes, while visibly attractive Roma Downey is simply, even in a show of this dubious caliber, oddly miscast. Dorothy Parker once stated after watching a Broadway show that featured an aspiring young actress that " she ran the gamut of emotions from A to B. " I now know exactly what she means. Of course the best part of any of these programs is near the end when our Ms. Downey is awarded a certain angelic glow about her head ( I'm actually not making this up! ) when giving that weeks antagonist/victim his chance for repentance. Ultimately they, of course, resort to weeping where they eventually 'see the light' and begin their own personal journey closer to God. Apparently Ms. Downey has a hot-line to God and like a magician pulling a rabbitt out of his hat Roma uses the very same trick with the big guy upstairs! No doubt this act is supposed to give viewers a warm and fuzzy feeling and apparently it works its charms increasingly well. Plus, the writers actually have the temerity to include this ludicrous and oddly clumsy event in each and every show!

As far as Della Reese goes I'm still confused as to the reasons for her appearance on this show. At times coming across as a wise, female version of ' Star Wars ' Obie Wan Kenobie Della hovers about the cast giving instructions and providing a certain 'home-spun wisdom' that for the most part is so painfully obvious and corny that it would concern me if I was part of this gang of walking do-gooders and they failed to see what Della so wisely infuses them with. Sadly, Ms. Reese parades around with a certain 'holier-then-thou' prescense that is irritating and annoying all at once. Ms. Reese comes across so badly here that if I were God I too would send her to earth as well! All in a desperate attempt to keep her cornball, world-weary, Grandma knows best routine to a minimum! Oh, by the way she also sings Gospels, but I'll spare you that.

Obviously I'm no fan of any show that consistenly panders to any viewers lowest common denominator ( though there is a certain trailer park/Wal-Mart attraction to this nightmare! ) and " Touched By An Angel " needlessly uses a certain amount of 'upclose and personal Jesus fix' to keep viewers tuned it. And that is without question my biggest gripe with this show. Using Christianity like a weapon they constantly use God as their own personal battering ram and use their religion as little more then a bludgeoning tool. Others may not agree I feel that this not only cheapens their religious devotion but also calls into question this shows producers motives in resorting to this type of rank religiosity. Personally I've seen televangelists who are more subtle ( but no more egregious ) in their overly-spirited message! Yes, the show is indeed almost mind-numbingly simple in its faux drama and perhaps thats the reason many people enjoy it. They are able to accept the show on its own terms ( no matter how illogical it is ) and while I certainly applaud them for that its boggles my mind how many viewers love being hoodwinked by a cast and writers who seem to show little if any respect for its audience of true believers. Martha Williamson, while I'm certainly no fan of, sure knows how to manipulate a televison watchers emotions and she does so here with no small panache! As every episode is soaked in a cheap sentimentality that boarders on neausue. No doubt she could charm the dollars out of any given congregation. Yet, like a carnival snake oil salesman " Touched... " sells its audience Christianity on a silver platter, marketing a cheap and easy 'feel good' mentality amongst viewers who perhaps are not savvy enough to question such shenanigans and ultimately sells itself by latching onto God as if he were little more then a very inexpensive marketing ploy. As for me...our Lord isn't for sale.

Summary: Heart Warming Series
Review: This is one of the best shows on television. We never got the whole series in Australia. But I've taped the episdoes we did get and treasure them . We should have more of this sort of TV viewing its very positive and makes you feel good. I am so pleased that this series is finally to be released on DVD. I thought it was a shame when the series ended. Recommend this series to anyone who wants to feel good about themselves and life in general.

Summary: Heaven Sent!!
Review: This is the one series in recent memory that I 'faithfully' watched each week so its cancellation was a major blow to me. This type of quality programming is hard to find on TV these days (I guess that's why I watch so little), so I was thrilled to see the release of this series on DVD. I hope that Paramount will see fit to release all 9 seasons; I will be at the store when it opens for the release date of each & every season box set as I am that eagerly awaiting them.

My mom loved this series and found great comfort in it during her 2-year battle with cancer. Not much of a TV watcher, I initially declined her entreaties to watch this show, but am glad I finally relented. We both found much comfort, strength, and hope in the series and I am thankful the series continued for several years following her death, as I truly needed the 'strength' it provided just to make it through most days. Luckily, there were nightly 'reruns' on a local station, so I was able to have 'Touched By An Angel' 6 nights a week (and just when I needed it most).

If you never watched this program, buy the DVD and share it with your family. It is truly TV at its finest! Thanks Paramount!! I eagerly await the release of the remaining 8 seasons; they can't arrive soon enough!

Summary: First Season DVD Release: A Dream Come True!
Review: Though I have recorded every episode (and watched them time and time again), I am excited beyond words at the First Season Release of TBAA on DVD and hope that Paramount will do so for all nine seasons. I have been waiting and hoping for this since the show ended, much to my dismay. Every episode touched my heart in such a way in which no other program could ever compare. While boldly, yet sensitively, portraying practically every issue we are faced with today; the show always leaves you with a sense of hope and encouragement, and the clear message that God is always there if we'll just reach out to Him.

Review: Touched by an angel was my favorite series. I still look for second season of Touched by an Angel released on DVD. I feel comforted with dvd of touched by an angel what no editing when I had taped the series from tv. I wait for hearing for what date for second season for release.
