Summary: Comedy, great comedy you "dummy"
Review: This show is so funny. Great for any age. I'm 20 years old and I love this classic. I bought it the morning it came out. Redd Fox as Fred Sanford is straight belly aches. He is so funny. His facial expressions are the best. My favorite episodes on this DVD set are "Happy Birthday Pop" and "The Piano Movers" I can't wait until they make the other seasons. I wish they all came out at once in a big box set. I hate having to wait for all the other seasons. They better come out soon or ... "oh...oh, Elizabeth I comin' to join ya honey"! ... YES!!!

Summary: Sandford and Son First Season
Review: This really made my day, my week, my month, my year. These are the best clean comedy of yesterday and can cut it just the same today. I have a 18 year old son that loves them as much as I do. I cannot wait for the next seasons. When I heard that they were out there for sale I rushed and bought it. Please keep them coming. I took a day to relax and laugh with Fred. Talk about a stess reliever. I can never get enough of Fred. Fred keeps it real.

Summary: Steptoe and Son is the Original, but this is AMAZING!
Review: A British friend of mine and I watched a few shows of this together after I got this from Amazon.Com. As you may know, this series was adapted from a British series called Steptoe and Son. The basic premise of a lot of the shows are the same. My friend recently showed me some of the original Steptoe and Son episodes on tape to prove that the series was adapted. Well, he proved that, and the original Steptoe and Son series seems well-worth watching, but it took some doing to adapt the series to an American South Central L.A. series. So, anyone that tells you that it's a rip off is absolutely right. BUT, it is SO American in the way it is presented here. The producers did an OUTSTANDING job of making this show American. The actors also must be applauded. I grew up watching this series as a kid and I've bought a lot of TV series on VHS and DVD. But, this one of the best buys out there. You will laugh and laugh--especially, but not only, if you are familiar with the show. I recommend this series to anyone and everyone. Also, if you get a chance, watch the original Steptoe and Son episodes! I wish there were a lot of extras and so forth, but that's not going to detract me from giving this DVD a lot of stars. Buy it! You'll love it!...

Summary: "...9114 South Central Avenue is live and well!"
Review: These 14 episodes of the "First Season" of Sanford and Son are awesome! It is probably my favorite television comedy of all times!! The dynamics of "Fred G. Sanford." (Redd Foxx) and Lamont Grady Wilson (Demond Wilson) is comedic genius at its best! I wish there were more episodes with "Aunt Ester" (LaWanda Paige), "Uncle Woody", "Bubba","Grady", "Slick Skillet", "Rollo", "Melvin", and all the other outrageous characters! I can't wait until the "Second Season" is available on DVD! ...

Summary: "It's the big one!"
Review: Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx) and his son, Lamont (Demond Wilson) own and operate Sanford and Son Salvage, where they collect and resell second hand items, antiques and junk. Their hilarious adventures and business dealings set the stage for some classic television comedy.

Sanford and Son ran for five seasons on NBC, earning four Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe for Redd Foxx and the distinction of being the highest rated show on the network for four years.

Since much of the first season was based on previously written material, the series had yet to create many of the great supporting characters we all remember, like Aunt Esther, Grady, Bubba, and Rollo. However, in "The Copper Caper," we meet Officers Smitty and Swanny for the first time. Below is a brief summary of all of the episodes you will get in this set.

1. "Crossed Swords"- When Lamont buys a valuable porcelain statue for $15.00, he auctions it off to make enough money to start his own business.

2. "Happy Birthday, Pop"- Lamont tries to make Fred's sixty-fifth birthday special, but it's not going to be easy to please his dad.

3. "Here Comes the Bride, There Goes the Bride"- It's Lamont's wedding day and he's left at the altar by his bride, who has cold feet. The family gets together back at the house for a "reception," where the main topic of conversation is who gets to keep the gifts.

4. "The Copper Caper"- Another one of Lamont's moneymaking schemes backfires when he and Fred are duped into buying stolen copper.

5. "A Matter of Life and Breath"- Lamont's plan to get Fred to give up smoking crumbles when he joins him for a free test at the Breath Mobile and receives alarming results.

6. "We Were Robbed"- Fred accidentally knocks over Lamont's cabinet of valuable collectibles, so he comes up with a story that he was assaulted and robbed.

7. "A Pad for Lamont"- After Fred scares off yet another one of his son's dates, Lamont decides it's time for a place of his own. Unfortunately, his new bachelor pad is seeing less action than the now available home of "Ready Freddy."

8. "The Great Sanford Siege"- For weeks, Fred has been putting bills he can't pay back into the mailbox. Now he and Lamont are trapped in their house with no heat, no gas, no electricity and an advancing gang of angry bill collectors.

9. "Coffins for Sale"- Lamont sees dollar signs in reselling coffins, but superstitious Fred wants nothing to do with it, sleeping outside until the caskets are sold.

10. "The Barracuda"- Fred decides after 20 years of being a widower, it's time to get remarried. The news doesn't make Lamont happy and he makes his feelings known to both Fred and Donna.

11. "TV or Not TV"- Melvin convinces Fred to ask his son for a color TV set, but there's no money left after Lamont buys a brand new convertible.

12. "The Suitcase Case"- A discarded briefcase containing $70,000 could be the answer to Fred and Lamont's dreams, but it turns into a nightmare when the crook who lost the money shows up to reclaim it.

13. "Return of the Barracuda"- The marriage of Fred and Donna is back on after they've reconciled, but Lamont has a plan to make sure they won't go through with it.

14. "The Piano Movers"- A rich socialite hires Lamont and Fred to remove his ex-wife's grand piano from his high-rise apartment.

Summary: No Extras?
Review: This two DVD set is great except for one thing; there are no extras. I'd love to see some behind the scenes, interviews or history on the show. Another point about these DVDs is that they play only one episode at a time with no option on the disc to play all episodes in a row. Of course, you can program your player but the Andy Griffith Show set has this option at [money] for a 4 disc set.

Summary: A must have for Sanford and Son fans
Review: The DVD not only allowed cinephiles the opportunity to watch their favorite films in a high-quality digital format, but it also spawned a whole industry where old television shows were transferred onto DVDs. The opportunity to get an uncut season of my favorite shows is one of the best things about DVDs.

Sanford and Son is one of my favorite shows. Years ago, when the show premiered on Nick at Nite, I taped 40 episodes and while I watch them, it's sometimes irritating when you know that so much from the episodes has been deleted through the years.

This new set allows fans of the show to see Redd Foxx in all of his glory. Fans of the show need not be told more than that. The sound is good and the picture is clear.

And, oh yeah, the show is still funny. It was never PC and that's what made it great. I can't wait for the rest of the seasons to appear on DVD.

Summary: SIMPLY MARVELOUS
Review: I enjoyed watching Sanford and Son the First Season. It was hilarious. My family and I can watch these two DVD's over and over. Even though the other characters weren't introduced, the show was still funny. Thanks for making this available on DVD. I can truly speak for everyone who loves The Sanfords, that we all will be willing to purchase additional seasons as they become available. I've already been searching the internet for Seasons Two, Three, and Four. Anyone who wants to laugh, purchase this DVD.
