Summary: A "Must Have" Modern Muppets Christmas treat!
Review: I saw this movie on television and really thought it was a hoot. I taped a re-run of it on cable but am very glad that they are releasing it on DVD!! The Muppets have found a contemporary voice that makes them seem fresh and vital again instead of a troop of characters from the 70's clinging to nostalgia. The new character, Peppy the Prawn steals all his scenes and Joan Cusack is brilliantly funny as the villainous Ms. Bitterman. Some of the jokes were a little racier than in previous Muppet movies, but nothing you don't see on prime time television these days. I think the reviewer who thought Kermit wasn't acting like himself didn't get the point that "that was the point". Kermit wasn't himself...He was severely depressed...that's why he wished he'd never been born! Anyway, the parodies of other Christmas movies and specials ( like "Rudolph" and "The Grinch") scattered throughout the film really kept the pace up and the laughs rolling!! All in all it was a very funny and also sweet take on "It's a wonderful life" and Christmas specials in general. A must have for any Muppet fan and Christmas special afficiando!

Summary: What the heck happened?!?
Review: I've been a Muppet fan since 1979. I own every Muppet home video release that has ever been made available. I love Muppet Family Christmas. I love The Muppet Christmas Carol. I... barely enjoyed A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie. What went wrong? This movie is badly put together, the editing is terrible(very choppy), and all of the humour came from scenes of physical violence, not something the Muppets are well known for. At times the humour was, well... sick. The scene with Fozzie going through the security lasers was awful. Also the film, although colourful, was very dark. I watched this movie with my fiance. We viewed it the day after we had watched The Muppet Movie, The Muppets Take Manhattan, and Muppets Magic From The Ed Sullivan Show, as a way to sort of get ourselves amped up for this Christmas feature. A Very Merry Muppet Xmas paled in comparison to ALL of these. The classic Muppet humour was gone completely, existing only in the out-takes, none of the characters really seemed to be playing THEMSELVES, and the human actors interaction with the Muppets seemed forced. I didn't believe Joan Cusack's acting for a second. Also the parodies didn't seem too much like they were actual parodies. They were more like unfunny promotions for the works that they were parodying. POSITIVE NOTES:
David Arquette was great, as was Whoopi Goldberg. Eric is excellent as the new performer of Frank's characters. That's it. Those are my positive notes. True Muppet fans like me should own this, only to keep their own collections complete, and to show the casual Muppet fan what they should avoid. Throughout this entire review I have resisted the urge to come outright and say "This movie is crap." Too bad the urge took me over: "THIS MOVIE IS CRAP!" Spend your money on any other Muppet product BUT this one. Thank You.

Summary: Involved Parent!
Review: The movie wasn't spectacular, but it was passable Christmas Muppet fair. However, the reviewer who was offended by the Propecia joke is even more stupid than the film was. Propecia is a hair loss medicine NOT a prostate medicine... I repeat... NOT a prostate medicine. God Lord, when you shut off that movie after 30 minutes did your children hit you over the head with your DVD Player? Yours is one of the most dim-witted reviews I've read in some time. It's not fine art but it's certainly NOT offensive! I'd let my kids watch it any time they pleased.

Summary: What A Great Christmas Treat,and alot of Old Friends!!!
Review: I missed this special when it first aired on NBC,and when I saw it was being released on DVD I had to get a copy! Being a huge Muppet fan I was very pleased to see alot of the older Muppets we haven't seen In a while being put to use again! Sure some of the leading Muppet performers are missing but I hardly noticed!
This movie was a joy to watch and I recommend it to any Muppet fan. Heck, we even get to see the old Muppet theater again! That initself was a treat! Jim Henson would be proud of this film had he been alive to see it! This will be a DVD I share with my family this year and will sit beside all my classic Christmas films as this one is truly a modern day Muppet Christmas Classic!!! The magic lives on and I own now a peice of it! You should too!

Summary: PARENTS BEWARE!!!
Review: Our parents bought this DVD for our kids this Christmas and after dinner we all cuddled up on the couch to watch what we thought would be another excellent Muppet movie. What a horrible DISSAPOINTMENT. Seeing God portrayed by a male-bashing, cynical and all around un-godly behaving Whoopi Goldberg was bad enough. But when jokes about topless dancing permits and Propecia (prostate medicine) presciptions started flying we knew that this was not the typical fun-loving family film we had come to expect from years of watching the Muppets. Less than 30 minutes into it we turned it off. It's a sad day for Muppet fans. DO NOT let your children see this shameful, disgrace of a movie.

Review: I love the Muppets and used to watch The Muppet Show each time it was on, so I was thrilled to hear about another Muppet movie. I thought that the Muppet Christmas Carol was great, and I was looking for more like-minded entertainment. This was not it. The comic insult dog does not belong in a Muppet special. Nor does a scene that's a parody of Moulin Rouge (complete with Piggy saying "Will you sleep with me tonight?" to Kermit in French). I was greatly disappointed by this movie. Stick with the old classics -- this one is not one of them.

Summary: Sacrilege!!! Jim Henson will be spinning in his grave !!!
Review: Whatever happened to the good-humoured Muppets. This movie was just plain disturbing. Somehow the magic created by Jim Henson is impossible to recreate because this movie plain sucked. Now I am not a god-fearing Christian, so Whoopi Goldberg portraying God didn't bother me. What bothered me was the sexual innuendo and of-beat jokes that just seemed mean-spirited somehow compared to the old Muppets we have all come to love.
I had to turn this movie of after 30 minutes because I just couldn't stand it anymore.

Summary: A Modern Muppet Twist on a Christmas Classic
Review: I'm not really going to go too much into the plot; I will just say it is a modern muppet version of "It's a Wonderful Life" with some other movies thrown in the mix :) This movie has a lot of big names and guest appearances such as Whoppi Goldberg, Joan Cusack, and David Arquette just to name a few, plus all of the muppets! The DVD version also has muppet bios, bloopers, and deleted scenes - although not as entertaining as I had hoped, but still nice little extras. If you love the muppets, I would highly recommend adding this movie to your collection.

Review: Shame on everyone who took part in this. The Muppets have been dragged through the mud with this abysmal movie filled with inappropriate, suggestive dialogue and situations. DO NOT let your children watch this awful, shameful movie. And Whoopi Goldberg?!?!?! Puh-leeze ... This is a travesty from start to finish. Instead, watch "A Muppet Christmas Carol," "Muppet Family Christmas," or "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street." Even the early John Denver/Muppets special, inexplicably unavailable on video, is far better than this embarrassment. Avoid, like the plague.

Summary: It's a Muppetful Life
Review: The mortgage is coming due on the Muppet Theater. If Kermit and company can pull off a spectacular Christmas show, they'll be able to buy it. Otherwise, it'll fall to the evil Miss Bitterman who inherited the bank from her recently deceased father. She wants them to fail so she can demolish the theater for a trendy nightclub. When things go wrong on Christmas Eve, it looks like the gang will be separated for good. Fortunately, their plight has caught the attention of an angel in Heaven. When God sends 'DannyL' down to help, Kermit wishes he'd never been born. The results surprise him. But how can his revelation that he does matter help them out of their situation? If you think the plot of this movie sounds like another Christmas movie, you'd be correct. Still, the gang manages to keep us entertained through the entire story with a fantastic show at the theater and with Fozzie's hilarious attempts to get the money to the bank on time to name a couple fun moments. Some of the jokes will go over kid's heads, but will make adults laugh out loud. There seems to be a bit too much sexual humor, usually involving Joan Cusack's Miss Bitterman character. Most of it will go over kid's heads, but why it needed to be there in a kid's movie is beyond me. Speaking of whom, Ms. Cusack is over the top, but in a fun, campy performance that does fit the movie. David Arquette is a tad bumbling as DannyL, but Whoopi is enjoyable as God. And there are more cameos then you can shake a stick at. I guess my biggest complaint with the movie is that it's not as funny as I was expecting. They take parts of the story quite seriously without the trademark gags and puns we expect from the Muppets. Still, it's a fun Christmas movie that will be enjoyed for years to come.
