Rating: Summary: I am SOOO glad this is video is available! Review: I have a marginal copy taped from television which I copied (in case the original broke!) with Alan Thicke as the narrator ( I wish I could get that version.) But to be able to have a GOOD copy of this wonderful wonderful movie makes me so happy. This is one of my top five most favorite stories ever. (I even named a cat Oblio!) I hope this video spurs some more public showings of this wonderful tale...it deserves to be watched & loved by a new generation of children. It's message that prejudice is ignorance cannot be stated too often.
Rating: Summary: Engaging and delightful allegory about fitting in (or NOT!) Review: I saw this video when it aired on television in the early 70's. The songs literally stayed with me into adulthood, and I was delighted when a few years ago I discovered this wonderful animated movie was available on video! The story is wonderful, and teaches some excellent lessons about fitting in, friendship, and above all, being happy and accepting of oneself, no matter what others may say or do! It illustrates that everyone has something they're good at if each person will keep looking for what that may be, and that we shouldn't judge people by the way they look nor should we make fun of people who are different from ourselves. The idea is that it's okay to be and look different, and it's okay to be around other people who look and are different. These subjects are illustrated with whimsical animation, and it's presented in a nonthreatening way for small children. I hope to be able to show this movie to my children one day, and we'll all sing along to the thoughtful and catchy songs. I highly recommend this video for parents to watch with their children. I think it's suitable for children from six years old and up (all the way up!).
Rating: Summary: A positive look at a family musical video Review: Ah, the joys of viewing The Point with my children nearly thirty years after it was aired on national TV! We've all been Harry Neilson fans for many years (Harry's quirky little songs make for great bed time singing - and they fit right in on the soundtrack to "You've Got Mail") But, to get to the point - this little video tells a marvelous story, and does what all good children's stories do - empowers children with the knowledge that everyone is valuable.Oblio is a gentle Every Man, and Arrow is a loyal Horatio. Everyone has a Point!
Rating: Summary: I still love this video!! Review: I remember seeing this story on TV as a kid. I even had the record because I loved the music. At the time I thought the message was pretty clear and simple. It wasn't until I got a little older that I realized that everyone didn't get the idea that what you look like doesn't matter and being different isn't bad or anything to be ashamed of. I will be sharing this story with my kids and I will do what I can to make sure they "get it".
Rating: Summary: There is more to this movie than kid's annimation Review: I was a teen and a Nilsson fan when this animated movie showed on network TV in the early 70's. I loved the movie and it's easily digested moral. I searched for years to find it... ignoring the disney re-do that erased the voice of Ringo until I stumbled upon the original. My children love the movie...and now I must buy another copy, because they, these products of the 90's, have worn mine thin.
Rating: Summary: A hidden masterpiece of music and animation! Review: I saw The Point in 1971 when I was 10 years old and bought the album (with carton booklet) at that time, and have rented the video numerous times since. Now that I'm expecting my first child, I decided I MUST own it. Nilsson's music is truly inventive, and only gets better with each listen. Ringo's narration is tops. Superb animation. Fantastic characters, timeless message. Full of humor and love. I'm a diehard fan!
Rating: Summary: Best cartoon I've watched in my life. Review: Although a cartoon, I think is most appreciated by adults. The graphics, the tone of voice, the music, and most important... the lack of violence is what makes this a great story to be watched by the whole family.
Rating: Summary: not as good as the very first one Review: I'm hoping someone can help me find the black and white version I saw on t.v. I believe in the late sixties. as far as I am concerned this is the original and the one that is close to my heart. would someone please help me find it.
Rating: Summary: A movie for kids and for adults Review: This movie came out when my mom was in college, and she got it for me when I was little. Now, I'm in college, and I still enjoy it, and have showed it to everyone! This is a story of discrimination and prejudice, and how people aren't all they seem. And, Ringo Starr narrorates-- what else could you want? Great music too!
Rating: Summary: To sum it up: This movie has a point! Review: Watched this with my children in the 70s. I have ordered the movie as well as the CD for all five of my grandchildren. Not only are they loving it, my children are thrilled to be re-united with this awesome tale.
