Rating: Summary: Every one has a Point. Review: The first time I saw this movie was when I was 3 or 4 years old on the tv and it scared me to death. Even so, my mother bought me the record and I learned to sing along to it and it became my favorite "Show". Years later I bought the CD and now I am hopeing for a dvd release so that my children can cherish this movie as I did when I was young.
Rating: Summary: A bit more info on The Point! Review: I saw this film on TV the first time it played. I loved the music, the animation, and the story. The message of the story is to be yourself, and it deals with prejudice without being heavy handed. I've always wondered whether the animation was done by the same team that did Yellow Submarine. One last bit of trivia: This film has had the narration track remade 3 times. The film was originally narrated by Dustin Hoffman. In its' second release it was narrated by Alan Thicke. The latest version features Ringo Starr. I don't know why this was done, but I assume it was some legal problem. If anyone knows why I would be interested. I personally like the Dustin Hoffman narration best. It would be great if the DVD was released featuring all 3 narrators on separate tracks.
Rating: Summary: This Film Begs For A DVD Release! Review: I have never met a man, woman or child who dislikes this film in any way. Almost thirty years later, it's as fresh and meaningful as the day it was released. Nilsson was at the top of his game when this was made, contributing some of his best music to a storyline that is poignant without ever becoming heavy-handed. My Point? I can think of no film that deserves the DVD treatment more!
Rating: Summary: Pointless Review: I saw The Point for the first time when I was in college. I fell in love immediately. Since then, I haven't been able to find my own copy. I wish they would bring The Point back! I'd love to show it to my own children because of its wonderful content.
Rating: Summary: I miss The Point Review: I LOVED this movie when I was little. My brother and I would listen to the soundtrack constantly. We watched it until the tape wore out. I would have liked to show it to my husband. I hope they make some more copies....
Rating: Summary: Summer camp highlight Review: I first saw this movie when I attended camp as a pre-teen (Camp Ballibay). Everyone loved it--so much so, that it became an annual favorite. The summer wasn't complete without an evening of "The Point"! The story is so warm, animation colorful and imaginative, dialog intriguing, and music inspiring. I have NEVER seen it broadcast on TV or listed. I've also never been able to find a copy in stores... and unfortunately missed the window of opportunity when Amazon had copies. I'm still searching the 'net to find it! A must have... if not to re-live your childhood, to enrich children of today (if I get a copy, I'm definitely loaning it to friends w/children).
Rating: Summary: Longing for the good old days Review: I saw this movie on television when I was approximately 13 years old. I loved it then and became a huge fan of Harry's music. I have been trying in vain to find this movie on tape so I may share it with my husband, my step sons who are 16 year old twins and an 11 year old, and for my nieces who are 10 and 5. I have no doubt that it would become their favorite also. The story is timeless, although the animation isn't what is up to par by today's standards, but I don't think it would really matter because the sound track that goes with this story lets your imagination take over and love the topic and theme. I really can't say enough about this...I pray that it is re-released. Harry Nielson was one of the greats. p.s. This is not Gary writing this review. It's his wife.
Rating: Summary: The Point Review: I have been searching all over for this Video, but have been unsuccessful. It is surely the best childrens video which teaches children about being different (in any way)and how superficial appearances realy are! And how unimportant! This would be a wonderful video for handicapped, adopted, physically challenged or scarred, or colored (any race) children. If anyone finds a place which sells this video, please e-mail me at TheMercers@telus.net
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: When I first saw this movie, I was in second grade. When I watched it, I didn't look for the morals or the anti-racism point behind the movie. I just watched the wonderful story and the great songs. (I can still find myself huming "This is the town and these are the people, this is the town where the people all stay...") Now that I watch it again, I can see the issues behind the suface, and that just makes the story fun to watch. My only complaint is that I wish that the old version in black and white was still out. That's the way that I first watched it and I actually thought that it was better that way, without color. I would reccomend this movie to ANYONE who likes movies with deep moral values, or to someone that just likes a good story. 5 stars insults this movie!
Rating: Summary: Harry, You died too young... Review: Wonderful story, I remember listening to the album over and over again, the heartbreak of the goofy Plymouth Arrow ad, and then hearing that Harry died. I watched this for the first time in 5th grade and forever fell in love with the story, the music and the wonderful, delighting humor. Thank you, Harry, for writing this! Say hi to John, would you please?
