Summary: Waiting for DVD!
Review: Alan Thicke narrated the version my family and I watched on tv, taped, and watched again and again. I see above that that was the 3rd telecast. We would LOVE to find "The Point" on DVD with any of the narrators as long as the songs are the same!!

Summary: Bring Back This Classic
Review: This is one of the best animated stories ever created. The story is timeless, and its gentle lessons in what really matters in life are needed now more than ever. The animation is creative and unusual (not your same old WB cartoon here). The music is absolutely fabulous. This is family entertainment at its very best. Children love it! Grown-ups love it! If it becomes available in DVD, I'll not only be buying it for my own family, it will be my gift of choice for Christmas, birthdays, new babies, even wedding showers. BRING IT BACK IN DVD!!!

Summary: Great for the entire family
Review: An entertaining and delightful movie, good for all ages. The musical score is quite memorable.

The story is about a boy who was different from everyone else. His parents loved him and so did his best friend, Arrow (his dog). It tells of his adventures in the "Pointless Forest" and the lesson he learned that changed his entire town. A must see adventure for anyone who has felt "left out".

Summary: The best Point ever made
Review: This larger than life cartoon proved to be able to have a time-release influence upon all above normal (to really open) minds for as long as they live. (Can't really tell beyond that point). I have watched it soon after its release,in '71- surprinsigly for that time of the Communist Era, it was allowed on national TV either because someone in power somehow had no clue about its message, or someone in power had a great sense of humor and loved risk taking. Too much to tell in 1000 words, I'll just say that upon our landing in Canada, I was lucky to fall upon a re-take and taped it, but many moons ago, my one and only kid wanted, as part of growing up, to tape a stupid talk show ( cursed be the one who invented such pathetic form of "entertainment" !!)and taped the said thing over my Point. Ever since I tried to find a copy, with no success, and I got here, where it appears to be some hope. I need to find it, as we used to watch it every now and then and observe what new feelings are being stirred or re-invented. Please whoever reads this, have a heart and help a damsel in distress find her high-school love.

Summary: The Point
Review: I have loved this ever since I saw it while babysitting as a teenager. I listen to this album and cassette more then any other music. It cheers me up with it's lighthearted sound and traditional story line of Oblio, the underdog. I have been trying to get this to send to all my neices and nephews, plus a copy for myself. I sent every one of them Yellow Submarine, which they love. I want to share "The Point" with them, too. I have been checking here about four times a year. Please release it soon and let me be the first to buy six copies.

Summary: Pointless
Review: I'm going to have to disagree with what seems to be the majority of viewers here, by saying that The Point is one of the worst films I have seen in a long time. By way of background, I too loved it as a child. I am a huge fan of 60's & 70's pop culture - Yellow Submarine is still one of my all-time favorite flicks.

Upon viewing The Point as an adult (I bought it to watch with my young son) I was struck by the general lack of originality in the film.

Much of the plot revolves around a young boy, Oblio, banished from his village for being different. He struggles to find his way in the world and makes strange friends. conceptually fine, so far. Where the film falls down is in its execution of this basic concept. Oblio spends much of his time listening to "grass-rap" inspired lectures from talking trees, rocks, and "fat women". The action (what little there is) comes to a complete halt as Oblio listens to such nuggets of wisdom as "There are a lot of stoned people around," and "fat women are jolly." It's not exactly clear just what lessons he learns as he shambles from one tired to another.

Most of the songs are bland variation of one another, and usually mired in drug-addled self-importance - such as a musical number which follows a tear-drop through the water cycle, stopping briefly to ponder the decaying corpse of a whale on the ocean floor. I'm not kidding.

Summary: THE POINT
Review: My oldest daughter used to love this movie when she was younger. At every trip to the video store she would pick "The Point" as her choice video to rent. I now want it for my younger daughter, but have been unable to find it anywhere.

The story is wonderful with a lesson for all to learn. The animation and songs are fantastic. We fell in love with the character "Oblio" and his dog "Arrow." A movie your kids will fall in love with and never forget.

Summary: 3rd-Trippiest Animated Film of All Time!
Review: I hadn't seen this since, like, 1987 when I was young and stupid. So I rented it, and it blew my mind- this film was a major influence on the formation of my personality, and I had forgotten all about it! I'm not sure I can explain WHAT made it so great, but here goes: This early-70s movie depicts the spirit of the sixties in both theory and practice. At the same time, it shows you the first cracks that were appearing in that system. The conversations in the courtroom scene border on heavy-handed, and although their intentions are good, it becomes clear why people tired of the 60's mentality. Of course, now that more than thirty years have passed, you'll find yourself longing for a time when it was ok to teach tolerance and spacy philosophy to your kids. Other highlights include: Ringo as the narrator, songs you'll remember even as you lie on your on your deathbed, obviously drug-induced musical sequences, thinly-veiled shots at Disney, and a trio of inexplicably cute fat ladies frolicking in the woods. There is nothing but goodness to be found. Hail Eris, baby. (BTW, in my opinion, the trippiest animated film of all time is, predictably, "The Wall," and the 2nd-trippiest is "The Hobbit," thanks to the Gollum sequence)

Summary: A pointed lesson in simplicity...
Review: If you grew up humming to the music of "Free to Be You & Me", "School House Rock" & "Really Rosie", chances are high that you'll love The Point. This sweet & simple story of a boy & his dog highlights the importance of being yourself & doing what you feel is right. The animation, music & gentle lesson is a hit with children of all ages...from 4-94! My folks sang these with me as I now do with my daughter. As an aside; the video is quickly degrading at our house, so my only regret with The Point; its that it has not been released on DVD.
