Summary: Very tough movie
Review: This is a very good and tough movie. It is a big improvement from the 1930 version.

Summary: AMAZING!
Review: THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST WWII MOVIES I HAVE EVER SEEN. IT RANKS WITH "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN", THE THIN RED LINE AND WHEN TRUMPETS FADE.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great idea: looking through the enemy's eyes.
Review: This is the story of Paul, a German school who is convinced by his teacher to join the army. You follow Paul through basic training and up to the front lines of battle. I liked this movie a lot because it shows a graphic description of the war from the German side. One of the best scenes of the movie is when Paul is in the hole with a Frenchmen, and he takes care of him after mortally wounding the soldier. This makes him try to understand why the war is being fought, and why he has killed this man, who has a wife and childern, and friends just like Paul. This is hard for Paul to grasp. Paul survived the whole war until the end. The armistice hadn't come into effect yet and Paul is hit by a sniper while he is trying to reach for a butterfly. This last scene was very unexpected, and that is why it made this movie so good.

Summary: Beautiful movie
Review: This movie is not done with the special effects of Black Hawk Down or Saving Private Ryan. But it is definitely ranked among them as being a great commentary on World War 1.

World War 1 is the forgotten war, one that few people can even name the causes of. This movie not only looks at the war, it takes it from the point of view of the Germans. However, you will forget that they were our enemies in this stunning portrayal of 20 young men enlisted in the German army. From the first scene with the teacher telling the men to defend the Fatherland, to the final moments of the war, when the desperate Germans are calling 10 year olds to the fields, it will have you hooked. A good movie for kids, as it really brings out the human aspect of world war 1. Along with the 1930's version, a definite must-see. One of the greatest war stories of all time.

Summary: 1979 color version
Review: This version is way far better than the 1930 version. It' better because it's in color, and the acting is excellent. In the 1979 version the actors act like Germans, the 1930 version the soldiers act like they belong to an American frat club. You would think James Cagney is going to appear at any second. Richard Thomas does a fine job of acting. Buy this film.
