Summary: Passafist Reviews Jailbait
Review: I must admit, I watched Allan Moyle's Pump Up The Volume religiously for almost a year when I was sophomore in college. So the other day while I was perusing a new blockbuster in my area I came across this curious film. I was interested, so I rented it. I'm so sorry and ask for penance.

JAILBAIT is one of those self aware teenie-bopper flicks which I later found out had it's premiere on MTV. It thinks it a comedy; to bad it isn't funny. It thinks it's camp; to bad it's disjointed and stupid. You know, the nicest thing I can say about this film is that it's in focus.

It stars Kevin Mundy (3000 Miles to Grace Land) as Jim Darling, the most popular senior in his high school. He has a girlfriend named Amber (Regan Pasternak) who won't give him sexual gratification. So he finds it in Gynger, (Alica Purrot) a trailer trash sexpot who's a sophomore. All hell breaks loose when Gynger becomes pregnant, Jim is charged with statutory rape, an Amber is hurt but for some reason is oblivious to how much of an idiot Jim is.

There's not one smart person in this film. Everyone is a dolt, there's no voice of reason, and so about 10 minutes in you've lost all interest. Except the story thinks this is funny, so it throws in zingers left and right, not one of which is funny.

Fortunately the film is short, barely 80 minutes, but early on there are two sequences thrown in because I think someone felt it necessary to stretch the running time. The first scene is of Gynger lying there in her underwear staring at a photo. The next is a four minute Music video, with a bunch of unidentifiable girls (possibly some failed band) singing and a take-off of Britney Spears `Hit Me Baby One More Time.'

The film is also quite sexually explicit for the first 4 or 5 minutes. Then for some reason it's all reigned in. This is probably best explained by its inclusion as an original movie from MTV. I can honestly say this film is the WORST MTV film ever, even worse than JOE'S APARTMENT.

Director Allan Moyle should be ashamed of this film. Especially since some of his other work is far better (Pump Up The Volume and The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag are great). I'll give him this one as a lapse in judgment after that I don't know. I'd rather be in jail than sit through JAILBAIT again.

Summary: NOT WORTH THE 'JAILBAIT'
Review: I saw 'Jailbait' when it was first on MTV. I was looking foward to a stupid, funny entertaining teen sex comedy. What I got was a stupid, unfunny, offputting, offensive, teen pregnancy so-called 'comedy'. I happen to like MTV movies- I enjoyed '2gether', etc. but this was just plain bad. Do Yourself a favor and skip 'Jailbait' -ROBBIE SCHEER, 15 YEARS OLD

Summary: It's not as bad as she says ... or Good for teachers
Review: I very much enjoyed this movie when it was on MTV. It gave a good and humorous look at a very important and none humorous subject of statutory rape which is not something one can generally laugh at. I felt that it the movie did a good job of not necessarily showing the cold hard truth of it, but more of what could happen, and what does happen in the movie isn't always good. This movie also could be effective as a teaching tool in school for students to help give them a better understanding of sex and relationships.

Summary: Hilarious satire, wonderful wit, a must!
Review: Let me just say that I absolutely LOVED this movie. And let me also say that have left my teen years some 20 years ago. I am 33 and usually hate to have to suffer through any teen-oriented comedy like "American Pie" I saw recently which I found hopelessly unfunny, boring and stupid. And most of the time, I don't even bother to try watching any other recent films dealing with young people's awakening about sex issues.

This said, I happened to catch "Jailbait" on cable recently and was instantly sucked into the deeply effective editing and camera work involved, along with the very satirical directing and performances. Even though the subject of statuary rape is a serious one, here it is treated in such a way that there is an awareness of the fact that this is high camp cinema and nothing depicted should be treated seriously.

I was particularly impressed with the two young leads which have been brilliantly directed into delivering performances that are in total harmony with the whole tone of the movie. This is a movie making fun of the whole "teen-movies phenomenon" all the while being totally aware of the fact that it is itself a "teen movie" but destined towards a more mature audience.

Many potentially offensive subjects here treated as jokes but the director was brilliant enough to let us the audience see that this is a movie who doesn't take itself seriously. Everything is so farfetched (with often hilarious results) that it tells us that the filmmaker expected nothing else than entertaining its audience with outrageous but finely tuned acting parodies and well-crafted camera work.

I have seen many teen movies such as "Scary Movie" I and II, "American Pie" I and II and none of them compares to the wit and cleverness "Jailbait" displays. A satire is probably the most difficult thing to achieve in cinema. It has to contain a balance between outrageous stunts and self awareness. Most teen movies pile up the gross factor, hoping to make audiences laugh. But here, even though no joke cliché is left unturned, it is done in a constant parody mode which I truly enjoyed.

I don't know why the reviews here were so negative regarding this little jem. Perhaps as I said before, this is probably a movie adult would enjoy more than teenagers. I for one, who is a very harsh critic concerning movies, found this one able to do what most films can't: entertain the hell out of me...

Summary: Hilarious comedy about a true life situation
Review: Like many of the other people out there reading this right now, I first saw the movie Jailbait when it premiered on MTV back in 2000. When I first saw the movie I got the impression it was a "made for mtv" movie. I had no idea it was an actually movie and you would be able to buy it. That was until one day one of my friends said he had ordered it off of Amazon. I immediately got on and ordered the movie. And let me say to this date I have not been dissapointed. If you're one of the people who watched the movie on MTV, then you really need to get the DVD because there was a lot of things cut out of the TV. The storyline is hilarious. You follow Adam, a senior in high school, who's friends are all having sex, and his girlfriend won't have it with him. Adam quickly finds a willing participant in Ginger, a 15 year old sophmore, and they have some fun together. That is until Adams finds out he has gotten Ginger pregnate, and now the State is trying to imprison him for statuory rape (I'm not sure how you spell that). There's so many funny moments following this, like Adam's lawyer, who is one seen on tv, and his office is located above a bowling alley. Adam also has to start referring to Ginger by her initials G.A.G, due to court circumstances. Really there's not a moment in this movie that isn't funny. Probably the most memorable part of the entire movie is when Adam is on the witness stand and says "Mike Mewborne blew up the chemistry lab trying to build dynamite, and all he had to do was pick up trash, and I think it's unfair if I get 20 to 40 you know?". Also when they ask Adam, "Do you admit to sleeping with G.A.G more than 3 times between the dates of October 26 and November 24" and he says "Well a lot more." It's stuff like this that will just make you laugh. This movie has a funny take on a very serious topic, and a very welcomed DVD to my collection.

Summary: This movie rules
Review: Lol this movie was so funny I almost peed my pants.
I don't see why people are giving it bad revues its not meant to be taken seriously. I think the acting was fabulous and the lead actor was hot!

Summary: IT WOULD BE 5 STARS
Review: ok, I just got this movie, and I liked it in the first place so it was nice to see it again in a lil better quality, my whole problem with this DVD is the lack of extras, or better yet the lack of having the semi-documentary of the actual Guy the movie was derived from, every time I saw this on MTV right afterwards they would tell the true story... what happened to that? other than that great flick, can see why people think its not so good, but those people are the ones that just wont get it in the first place.

Summary: Decent
Review: The film is ok, but some of the acting is flat out bad. The woman running for mayor, the father, mother, the lawyer and the judge make their scenes nearly unbearable. The movie had potential to be good, so I gave it three stars. If you can get past some bad acting, and lame jokes from the older actors, then go ahead and buy it.

Summary: Not bad, Not great
Review: This is a movie worth buying. It was not what I expected but it was also fairly amusing I would give it 3 1/2 stars. The movie discussed an important topic which is more often than not ignored in today's world. I have seen girls try to get back at ex-boyfriends by calling rape and later admitting to the lie. I thought it had a decent script but that the director tried to many silly shots to force the humor down your throat.

I own this movie and do not regret spending $12 on it, when other dvd's are going for $30
