Review: Nothing beats this show. Archie was recently rated the number 1 television character of all time by Bravo for a reason (Edith was number 12). Highly recommend since the re-runs that are seen on various TV stations are chopped by about 2 1/2 minutes a piece.

Review: One Question: What about Seasons three-ten. There are no extras on these dvds, so at least you can release the other seasons at a quicker rate. This program was innovative and ingenious in the way that it addressed a changing American culture and I would be severely disappointed if the studio decided to not release more seasons based on moderate sales figures. C'mon...Angel, Buffy and Babylon 5 are mindless. I want more All in the Family!!!

Summary: One Of The BEST Individual Seasons Ever Of Any TV Program!
Review: Season 2 of "All In The Family" (1971-1972) was the season when this stellar CBS-TV situation comedy really took off, with many, many memorable episodes during the year's 24-episode season. (And many Emmy Awards verify the quality of these shows.)The DVD video quality of this set (just like the Season One boxed set) is rather subpar when you compare it to almost any other TV-on-DVD product on the market. The sharpness and clarity of the images is far from ideal. But these (now quite old) programs were produced on "tape", and not film. Taking into account the "taped" source material that the DVD makers had to deal with, I guess the quality is of an 'okay' nature. Colors aren't very saturated and the mono soundtrack is a bit shrill at times. But these quality issues simply MUST take a back seat when it comes time to decide whether or not to purchase this 2nd-Season boxed set. These episodes of this all-time Classic TV comedy are timeless, and still very fun to watch today. Sure, it'd be great if this set had the near-perfect picture quality of FOX's outstanding boxed set of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". But "Mary" was done on "film", which obviously makes a big difference when it comes to transferring these programs to the DVD format. "All In The Family" Season Two gives us these side-splitting offerings ...... >> "The Saga Of Cousin Oscar" -- Possibly THE funniest sitcom episode ever made! ("Well, I'll see whether we can pass the market on the way [to Oscar's funeral].")
Oh, man! My sides hurt! :) >> "Mike Meets Archie". >> "Edith's Accident" (the famous "Cling Peaches In Heavy Syrup" episode). >> "Cousin Maude's Visit". >> "The Elevator Story". >> "Edith's Problem". >> And "Sammy's Visit", with Sammy Davis Jr. quickly learning all about "The whitest guy I know" during his brief stopover at the Bunker house. :) This three-disc boxed set is worth the investment, even if the video quality is a bit lacking. It's worth the purchase simply because so many of the programs contained here are so darn good! These are flat-out funny shows. Unfortunately, like the Season 1 set, there are no extra features or chapter stops here. However, the packaging has improved over the first DVD release. A nice outer slipcase is included to hold the sturdy four-pane inner packaging. A multi-page booklet, with the appropriate episode numbers & info, is also part of the package. Twenty-four top-notch episodes of Archie & company in one space-saving DVD bundle. Hard to beat that.

Summary: More Of The Family
Review: Season two of All In The Family is its first full length year featuring twenty-four episodes after being a mid-season replacement and featuring only thirteen episodes. Season two continues what the show started in year one, taken on more previously taboo television subjects including menopause, gun control, nudity, sexual impotence and more race relations. The four central characters, Archie & Edith Bunker (Carroll O' Conner & Jean Stapleton) and Mike & Gloria Stivic (Rob Reiner & Sally Struthers), really begin to gel and their comedic timing together is flawless. Season two continues to feature the Bunkers' black neighbors, The Jeffersons including son Lionel (Mike Evans) who was a fixture and season one and more of his mother Louise Jefferson (Isabel Sanford) who appeared in the season one finale. Bea Arthur is introduced as Edith's ultra-liberal cousin, Maude, who proves to be a thorn in Archie's side. The character was spun off into her own series, which also turned out to be a ratings and critical success. One of the most famous episodes in the show's (as well as television's) history is episode 21 of the season where Sammy Davis, Jr. guest stars. The show's famous scene is at the end when Mr. Davis plants a big, wet kiss on a shocked and appalled Archie's cheek. The show was yet again a big success at the Emmys, cleaning up the 1971-72 season. The show repeated as Best Comedy Series as well as Ms. Stapleton repeating as Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Mr. O'Connor won as Best Actor in Comedy Series and Ms. Struthers won as Best Supporting Actress (in a tie with Valerie Harper from The Mary Tyler Moore Show). The show won four other Emmys for a dominating seven total wins.

Summary: good episodes, poor dvd quality
Review: So far I've only seen the first disc in this set of the second season of All in the Family, and the picture quality of what I'm seeing here is very poor, as in being almost too fuzzy to be enjoyed. The cable channel, Nick at Nite, plays them far better than this. In the past, I had rented one of the discs of the first season, and from what I remember, it had better picture quality. My dvd player is not an el cheapo machine, so its not the quality of my player, and besides, I have viewed many dvds and alot of them have been super-sharp in picture quality and sound, so its frustrating when people end of renting or buying certain DVDs expecting excellent quality for their money, and end up getting discs that are not even worth the material they're made out of.

Review: The Second Season is even funnier than the first and there's 11 more episodes for the same price! The writing is at its best and right from the first episode of the set all the classic character traits of both the Bunkers & the Stivics are firmly in place. The second season of All in the Family ran from September '71 to March '72, back when Emmys and Golden Globes (for which this won 7 & 2 respectively) were given to sitcoms and actors who actually deserved them. Now they give them to Will & Grace and Frasier? Anyway, the second season has 24 laugh packed episodes including several memorable moments like when Sammy Davis kisses Archie, Mike has an intimacy problem, Edith goes through "the change", Archie gets stuck in an elevator, Maude comes over, and Edith has an accident involving cling peaches (in heavy syrup)! Summary: Boy, The Way The Bunkers Played
Review: The second season of All In The Family saw the series start to come into its own. All american everyman Archie Bunker (Carroll O'Connor) was a bit more defined as a character. In fact the role was so well written and performed that in the course of a single episode, you could find yourself seeing a little bit of someone you know, or perhaps a bit of youself in him. The rest of the cast gelled too. The enire cast gave us "real" people to connect with and get to know, like or dislike. These were flawed folks. The show's penchant for tackling serious subjects, within a sit-com format continued What was considered taboo for television a decade earlier was common for disscussion on the show The season saw the Bunkers talk about menopause, racial profiling, politics and more. Series fan Sammy Davis Jr. played himself in a classic episode. Edith's (Jean Stapleton) very libreral and opinionated cousin Maude (Beatrice Arthur) came by in yet another highlight. By year's end, the show was the top rated program in the United States The 2nd season DVD box set features all 24 episodes of the year. However, other than a booklet featuring episode summaries, there are no other extras. It would have been nice to include something else on the discs After all, the show that broke new ground for tv sit-coms deserves a bit better. Nonetheless, the set is recommended, especially for fans of the show
