Summary: WOW! WHAT A GREAT DVD SET!!!
Review: I was very hesitant to pre-order this, due to the incredible price for 8 movies, but when i found out Universal was putting it out, I figured it had to be pretty good. And boy, was I in for a surprise to find a very nice packaged 2-disc set, with a slip-cover, even! Each disc is double-sided, which makes more sense now, for 8 movies.

My only complaint is that as nice as the packaging is, it IS a tight fit, which makes it hard to remove the inside package. But that's nothing, compared to what I was expecting. :-)

If you're an A&C fan, you MUST own this!!! and I can't wait for Vol. 2!!!!!!!!

Review: I DISAGREE WITH THE DUMMY WHO IS WORRIED ABOUT THE PICTURE QUALITY. WHO CARES? THEY ARE CLASSICS AND I WOULD RATHER WATCH THEM IN THEIR ORIGINAL FORMAT ANYWAY.

Summary: 8 Gloriously funny movies
Review: This boxed set of 8 Abbott and Costello Movies is absolutely the best buy for any A&C fan or future fan regardless whether or not you have these movies already on VHS.
There are 2 double sided gold discs containing the first 8 movies that A&C made and every movie has been superbly remastered by 'deluxe DIGITAL STUDIOS'. The entire collection is crystal clear in both picture and sound.
All movies have english captions for the hearing impaired as well as subtitles in Spanish and French.
There are scene selections, Production notes and trailers included for each movie and the whole collection is attractively packaged.
I watched all 8 movies in one sitting and am about to watch them again because I just cannot get enough of A&C and the feeling that comes over me from being thoroughly entertained by these two brilliant comedians.
The quality of this collection of movies is excellent and an absolute bargain for the price.
If I could rate this product higher than 5 stars I most definitely would.

Summary: UNIVERSAL HAS OUTDONE THEMSELVES!
Review: By the time Bud Abbott & Lou Costello made their way to the big screen they already had over a decade's worth of radio success. Voted in 1942 as America's best beloved movie stars, the team easily breezed through a series of classic films in a career that - only near the end - showed signs that their popularity was waning. It's widely acknowledged today that the team did not get along, either on screen or in their private lives - a shame since their on camera shinanigans suggest a friendship that sadly never was.
UNIVERSAL studios gives us eight great Abbott & Costello comedies in this 'franchaise' series: One Night In The Tropics (1940 - the very first A&C movie in which they play supporting roles as a couple of stooges selling 'love insurance'), Buck Privates (1941 - in which the boys join the army to avoid a prison sentance), Hold That Ghost (1941 - a hilarious mob hit/ghost story), Pardon My Sarong (1942 - heading for the South Seas in riotous style), Keep 'Em Flying (1941 - A&C crash the air force), Ride 'Em High (1942- a rodeo lampoon), Who Done It? (1942 - a radio land murder mystery) and In The Navy (1941 - a sort of Buck Privates on the ocean). One can only hope that Universal will not wait nearly so long for a follow up VOLUME II.
TRANSFER: PLENTY TO SMILE ABOUT HERE! Although each film represents variations in age related artifacts (dirt, scratches, dust, etc.) Universal has taken great care in digitally remastering these films to DVD. I have to say that after realizing there were two movies on each side of each disc I didn't hold out much hope for quality. I am pleased to say I was wrong. The picture quality of all the movies in this set is remarkably detailed with solid blacks, an excellent gray scale and perfectly balanced contrast and shadow levels. The original camera negatives are remarkably stable for a picture that most certainly will not disappoint! Most of these films were remastered a decade ago when Universal released some box sets on laserdisc. These DVD's are a considerable improvement over the quality featured on the previous discs. The audio for all is MONO but well balanced and ideally represented.

Extras: Theatrical Trailers and production notes. Seriously, though, with two movies per side I really wouldn't expect anything more unless you want to start sacrificing picture quality.
BOTTOM LINE: At the bargain basement price this set is being offered you cannot afford to not add these films to your home video library. An absolute must!!!

Review: I agree with the reviewer who is appalled that there are customer reviews being posted before the DVD is even on the street. Keep your praise/shilling for Amazon to yourselves. Also, keep your calculations concerning cost per movie to yourselves, too!!! You're here to critique the DVD not to drull in anticipation. 3 Star rating reflects neutrality of reviewer.

Review: ONE OF GREAT THING ABOUT SHOPPING AT AMAZON.COM IS THAT YOU GET TO READ REVIEWS OF THE PRODUCT FROM THE PEOPLE WHO OWN IT. THIS DVD IS NOT RELEASED YET. AMAZON.COM SHOULD NOT LET ANYONE POST REVIEW UNTIL A PRODUCT IS RELEASED. WE ALL KNOW THESE MOVIES ARE CLASSIC. BUT HOW IS QUALITY OF PICTURE, SOUND, AND .... ?

Summary: At last!!! A&C on DVD from Universal.
Review: Finally Universal (MCA) is giving us some more Abbott & Costello on DVD. The info here on Amazon.com is somewhat limited but...gives more detailed info. To check it out go to...and search for "Best of Abbott and Costello Volume I" under DVDs.

The upcoming release is described as a 2 disc set and most of the movies include theatrical trailers and production notes. As well as being subtitled in Spanish and French. The description also includes the running times for each movie. Let's hope the DVD transfer quality is good. You can't beat the price!!

And let's hope to see more DVD volumes in the future. A&C fans I'm sure want more than just "A & C Meet Frankenstein", "A & C Meet the Mummy" and the few, now out-of- print DVDs, put out by Universal/Image Entertainment quite a few years back.
