Summary: Fantastic, where are the rest of the seasons?
Review: This is the funniest show almost no one has seen. I say this because if they had, everyone would have bought this first season set and be begging like myself for more seasons!! There are multiple seasons of "Whats happening" & "Good times" but none of "Larry Sanders"? I don't know what the problem is, but I would suggest if you want to own one of the great comedy series of all time buy the first season. I can only warn you that you will be upset that you can't buy any more seasons because they are not available!

Summary: Hey Now HBO -- we're not going away in 2004 or ever!
Review: Well its 2004 and still no sign of the rest of the Larry Sanders Show on DVD. Shame on you HBO - read this list and listen to us, please.

OK, so a few purchasers complained about video quiality, not knowing that The Larry Sanders Show was shot on film and video deliberately for the effect. And someone who cannot operate their DVD machine incorrectly stated that the last 2 eps were not on the DVD. Forget them, they don't count. Also, I for one don't care all that much about 'extras' on DVDs. All I want is the ability to play all those episodes over and over, and laugh away the blues and enjoy the brilliant writing and acting.

So, c'mon folks, release the rest and give us Amazon reviewers something else to write about.

Summary: you can't beat the comedy - or the picture
Review: ok, if you didn't know the larry sanders show was one of the finest programs ever to grace your screen, you wouldn't be reading this. the only reason not to buy this set would be that you're afraid they'll never follow through and put out the rest of the series. and that's a legitimate concern. but the comedy's great, and this should go down as an absolutely stellar debut for a tv show.
regarding this undying argument about the picture quality... first of all, there is no "transfer" involved in getting a tv show onto dvd. it's ntsc to ntsc, just some digitizing along the way. and the result looks no lousier than television normally does. I don't get the complaints. the larry sanders show was shot on video and it never looked good, so just let it go.

Summary: Hey Wow!!!
Review: First, forget about quality of the picture and transfer to DVD stuff, just sit back, relax and enjoy simply the most innovative, imaginative and funniest comedy of the 90's. The genius of this show is in the characters. Usually for comedy to work there needs to be pathos and a degree of sympathy for one or more of the characters. By all accounts, the viewer should have little sympathy with any of these self-publicising ego-maniacs but the writing is so good that you are drawn into there world and almost Larry's way of thinking. Brilliant stuff! The immense Jeffrey Tambor is inspired as the truly awful yet pitiful Hank and Rip Torn's Artie, teetering on the edge of insanity bizarrely offers a bit of stability to Larry and the crew. A wonderfully talented supporting cast round off a gem of a comedy show. It has been far too long a wait for subsequent series to be released. Enough of endless releases of "Ally McBeal"and "Sex in the City", give us Larry, I cant get enough! Don't flip around!

Summary: Poor sales?
Review: I wonder why? We're charged a premium price for a DVD of a short season, two episodes are left off the discs, AND the mastering is substandard. They clearly went for the fast buck on this and were surprised when thousands of people didn't line up to be ripped off. With that tirade out of the way, I must admit that I AM buying this--simply because I can't do without whatever is available from one of the funniest t.v. shows in history. Hopefully the remaining seasons will also be released (with a little more care put into the production). If I can get the entire library from this show and Dream On, I might never have to watch anything else.

Summary: Waiting on seasons 2, 3, etc.
Review: First of all I must say I don't agree with the reviewer who thought the quality of the DVD was so poor it was close to unwatchable. It may not be fantastic but it's certainly not that bad.

Secondly, this is one of the most entertaining, caustic and spot-on TV shows ever -- so when are the subsequent seasons going to be released? If its distributors were disappointed with sales on the first series (as another reviewer suggested), can't they just release it on a smaller scale? Surely there is enough of a dedicated fanbase out there to justify it!

Summary: Columbia not planning more DVDs -- Time to speak up!!
Review: According to trusted folks at www.tvshowsondvd.com, the sales of the first season of "The Larry Sanders Show" were low, and Columbia/Sony isn't planning to release any more. If you're a "Larry" fan, and you're bothered by the butchering of the shows on Bravo (or in local reruns on weekends), write to Columbia/Sony Pictures and let them know you want more!

In addition, turn your friends on to the best live-action comedy ever by making more purchases of the first season of "Larry" from Amazon! More sales, coupled with customers sounding off, just might make the difference! The price is reasonable and Amazon will give you free shipping. As my earlier review said, "You can't beat it with a Rat Stick." Let's get the rest of the series out there!

Summary: More coming?
Review: Wonderful. It's a treat for those of us who waited because we don't think HBO is worth the money, and are really annoyed by Bravo!'s censors, butcher knife editing, and Cirque de Soleil promos. Does anyone know if more are coming?

Summary: More Tea Vicar!!
Review: Listen this is absolutely the best comedy series ever made. But that's just my opinion. This first set is perfectly presented. It is only a shame that they haven't released any of the subsequent seasons yet. If anybody with any influence actually reads these reviews I urge you to release the rest of the seasons, I know there is a substantial market out there for the Larry Sanders Show. A couple of points about some other reviews. One said that the picture quality is not that good and that it keeps changing. Well I disagree with the poor picture quality criticism, and what's happening with the change of image resolution is that the show is shot both in High Quality Video and also film, so, he is right the quality does change but it is intended to. Another criticism of it was that the series is incomplete, well that's simply not true. Anyways buy this you won't regret it and enjoy.
