Summary: GREAT series, GREAT DVD
Review: If you love Futurama (the animated sci-fi sitcom from Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons), you'll ADORE this set. The graphics are great, the sound is top-knotch, and the special features are really good. It offers the first 13 episodes of Futurama, deleted scenes, audio commentaries from the staff for each episode, which are both funny and informative, and more! A great start to a phenomenal show! Episode-wise, I reccomend Love's Labours Lost In Space (1ACV04), Hell Is Other Robots (1ACV09), and When Aliens Attack (1ACV11). Buy this--it's definitely worth it.

Summary: Futurama
Review: I have been an avid watcher of Futurama on Adult Swim and occasionally catch the new ones on fox. I had not seen all the first season episodes so I bought this. Futurama is a very good show and was actually good in the first season :o. I like to collect box sets and this one is my funniest.

Summary: THIS IS ONE GREAT DVD!
Review: If I had to describe this DVD in one word it would be-GREAT! I bought this DVD and I just love it. I love this show. The future is a brilliant idea for a cartoon. And you can't say brilliant cartoon in a sentence, without saying Matt Groening. I love Matt Groening's work. I have been watching The Simpsons since they first came out on TV. I have Season 1 & 2 of The Simpsons (I can't wait until the 3rd Seasond comes out). I also have Season 1 of Futurama & I am planning to get the 2nd season real soon. This is one great DVD. I watch the episodes over and over. All of the episodes are great and funny. BUY THIS DVD!!!

Summary: Worst Series Ever
Review: Oh my God I think I'm going to wretch! How could anyone want to buy this series when it's so painfull to watch it for free on TV? It just goes to show you what you can accomplish when your Matt Groening and have the Simpsons in your back pocket. With the succuss of the Simpsons (Which I LOVE), Groening could have put out a blank screen as a series and Fox would have run it for at least three seasons. Unfortunatly, Groening did not put out a blank screen series and instead inflicted this absolute rubbish on humanity. I really wanted to like this series. I watched every episode for the first season, believing and hoping that it just had to get better, but it never did. I know I didn't get a good laugh even once in the entire time I watched it. I think I kind of chuckled once (or was it that I mused to myself quietly?) but that was it. YUCK YUCK YUCK An absolute stinkfest! Run and hide from this box set and spend your money on some Monty Python, Simpson's, SNL, SCTV, MS3000 or Three Stooges DVD's. Oh wait, I have to wretch again....GAAAK....there I feel a little better now.

Summary: A great start to a great show.
Review: Every episode in this first season is classic. A pizza delivery boy is thrust a thousand years into the future by an accidental freezing. Giant garbage balls threaten the Earth. Robots consume alcohol for sustinance. Anchovies are almost priceless. A highly addictive drink called "Slurm" has finally taken out Coke and Pespi. And aliens walk the streets of New New York.

Matt Groening has created a series that is as funny as "The Simpsons" much of the time, and is far better than the first season (and some others) of "The Simpsons." Great characters, great stories, and great animation, (with great references to sci-fi TV and movies) make this a great show.

Summary: "Tell them I hate them!"
Review: Matt Groening's look at a future which is remarkably familiar has great moments of hilarity and pathos all rolled into one. While Futurama doesn't come close to matching the all-American wit of the Simpsons, he's not aiming for it: Instead, viewers are asked to see what the future holds, and laugh at the results. Sure, there's plenty of "only in the realm of Ray Bradbury" to go around, but what keeps Futurama from being dull is the genuine characters, who get a chance to fully develop in this, the inaugeral season of the show.

The DVD collection of all thirteen episodes makes for a great addition to any Futurama fan, and anyone familiar with the often hilarious commentaries Groening and company provided to the first and second season collections of the Simpsons will not be disappointed. Quite simply, there isn't a stinker in this set, and the proper season closer (Fry and the Slurm Factory) has to be one of the classics in this all-too-short series' run.

Futurama has a cult following, to be sure, and even the casual fan will appreciate the set offered here. excellent all around.

Summary: So Funny!
Review: This collection of DVDs is just too funny for words. The characters are absolutely hilarious, from fry's complete stupidity, to bender's drinking habits, it includes a complete array of characters with extremely odd quirks to habitual laziness. The characters in this program also have more depth than seen in Matt Groening's other characters featured in the Simpsons. (Which I find EQUALLY hilarious) And whether you hate or love science fiction this series is for you. It provides all the silly jokes only science fiction junkies get (from package addresses to genetically modified things), and for the rest of us, more common humor about the future graces the series. Like the joke that people can no longer go to the real ocean because there are too many whales, and they'll attack humans. All in all a great buy, and I can't wait to get season 2!

Summary: Definitely for grownups...
Review: Futurama is not the Simpsons. You need to say that right away, or you'll have the inevitable disappointment that another reviewer had. The Simpsons is a one-of-a-kind show that will never be equalled.
However, Futurama is extremely funny in its own way. It is much darker than the Simpsons, and the humor is geared towards adults, not a total audience like many of the Simpsons episodes are. The writing is also geared towards a more cerebral audience, and is less accessible to a general viewership.
Personally, it took me a while to warm to the series, and now cannot imagine how the network could cancel it. Futurama offers a lot to the viewer who enjoys a variety of comedy and observation, and it subtlety and nuance should make this a great DVD for someone who needs a little more depth than mainstream TV has to offer.
