Summary: Maybe Fox should give the rights to someone else!
Review: Well this is a major upset that FOX, whom I did commend for their DVD releases, to do this to this great television show in American history.
I can't understand this at all and it doesn't make sense at all.
I say Fox should give the rights to someone else to produce the rest of the shows DVD seasons.
I mean come on Columbia just released that god awful "My Big Fat Greek Life"!
I am sick and tired of hearing about the new "Mash" seasons coming out. MTM was a better show!
Question: who and what age group is the guy/gal who makes the decisions on what gets released, my bet they're under 20.

Summary: It Still Makes No Sense
Review: The Los Angeles Times had an article the other day about what a pot of gold DVDs have been for old TV shows. Even crappy shows that went off after half a season are finding their way onto DVDs. Take a look at the current news page at TVShowsOnDVD.com: http://tvshowsondvd.com/news.cfm . Every piece of slag that was ever broadcast is coming out on disk. And we're supposed to believe there was no market for a gem like MTM?? As I've said before, something strange is going on here.

Summary: WHERE'S SEASON 2...QUICK!!!
Review: I can't believe they're not releasing Season 2 of this wonderful sit-com from the seventies. I bought this first release for my wife on her birthday this year, and she loved it. Now my seven year old is hooked, and has literally watched this first box set thirty times and more. Maybe if we all write fox and beg them to release more MTM we'll get it. This sit-com was a colorful slice of life from the '70s. Characters like Lou Grant and Ted Baxter are still household names. It's popularity caused a number of successful spin-offs, like the "Lou Grant" series, "Rhoda", and "Phyllis". The picture quality of this release is stunning. And the extras are plentiful, with interviews with surviving cast members, etc. Well, if Fox releases more seasons, I'll stand in line to buy them. After all, it's money that talks with this kind of thing. And with all the junk out there on dvd, you could do much worse than this jem.

Summary: What's wrong at FOX?
Review: I purchased season 1 the day it was released and like everyone here has noted, have been waiting in eager anticipation for over a year for season 2 of MTM. If FOX hadn't lied to all of us and told us to expect season 2 in early 2003 I wouldn't be so upset. I have spent considerable time trying to discover what was up, but have never uncovered any info. This evening I checked Amazon for the first time hoping to discover they had an exclusive distribution deal or something as I needed several as Christmas gifts and am stunned to learn FOX has second thoughts of releasing season 2. HOW CAN THEY BE SO DUMB?! MTM is without a doubt one of the classiest sitcoms of all times. To consider not releasing every episode is a travesty beyond compare. Hopefully some exec at MTM will pull their head out and realize there's a ready market waiting and begging for this DVD series to continue.

Summary: Funny as ever!
Review: Love this show...Valerie Harper and Mary Tyler Moore are just wonderful. Supporting cast we also know and love. Funniest Episodes are "Support you Local Mother", "1040 or Fight", and "The snow must go on". DVD extra's are great. I love on the extra emmy footage that Lucille Ball give Valerie and Lou their emmy's. (We all love Lucy!!!!). Making of featurette is also funny and it makes you feel like you're in on something. I only wish show commentaries would have included the cast not just the director/creators...A must have for Mary fans and for classic tv fans...SO WHERE IS SEASON 2?

Summary: SUPER!!
Review: I got this dvd set a while back and it was worth it. This show brings back some great memories of the 70's. The quality is super. To watch these shows again in such good condition is great. You fans of Mary and the 70's need this for your dvd library. Only one tiny, teeny, small, itty bitty problem...WHERE ARE THE OTHER SEASONS?????? I'm having Mary and Rhoda with draws!!!

Summary: The EPISODES are what sell the set - Not the extras
Review: This is an open letter to Fox Home Entertainment:

It's not surprising that the cost of producing the first season set was high. As nice as the "Making of Season One" documentary was to see, it had to come with a hefty price tag. I, for one, only viewed that documentary once. Others I know who've also added this set to their collection have done the same.

Most fans of the show don't care nearly as much about the extras as we do about the episodes themselves. So perhaps instead of scrapping all plans for future releases of this series, you might want to pay attention to the example set by other TV show releases:

M*A*S*H ...Each season comes in a simple, 3-disc set. The plastic "clam-shell casing is sturdy and perfect for easy storage. Extras are kept to such a bare minimum that the buying public doesn't have to wait very long in between each season's release.

The Dick Van Dyke Show ...Inside each season cardboard package, which is smartly designed to look like an old fashioned television set, are 5 thin plastic cases for each disc. Double the sturdiness, with a design that fits the show's time period perfectly. Extras are not contained on a separate disc, but rather are spread throughout each regular disc. Instead of a full documentary, interview clips from a previously produced documentary have been included.

Friends ...Packaging is very similar to the MTM set, however the extras are arranged in between the episodes, rather than on a separate disc. The price is also lower than the MTM set, making it more accessible to the show's fans.

One last point that needs to be addressed is package design. The 1971 glamour pose of Mary on the front cover has nothing to do with the series, nor does it capture the spirit of the show. What about the classic shot of Mary tossing her hat into the air?

Please don't give up on your plans to release the rest of this series onto DVD. I am certain that all is needed is just a revised approach.

Summary: I Hope Fox Continues with the Series
Review: The Mary Tyler Moore Show is one of the most acclaimed sitcoms in television history, and FOX has provided the entire first season on DVD with nice packaging and alot of extras. Unfortunately, it did not sell as well as hoped, and the second season was not released as planned. However, there was news recently that they are considering releasing the second season. Like an earlier reviewer, I recommend signing the petition for more releases at:
http://www.petitiononline.com/mtmdvd/petition.html

This petition also lets you make viewable comments about the release and suggestions for future releases, and over 700 people have already signed it. It probably didn't sell well because of the somewhat high price compared to releases like M*A*S*H. It certainly could be profitable to FOX if they skipped on the fancy extras and packaging, which, though nice, are not essential. I'd be willing to pay fifty bucks for a season of this great show without any special extras. But that's just me.

Summary: Good news! Possibe future MTM seasons on DVD
Review: According to tvshowsondvd.com. FOX is considering
releasing season 2 of the MTM show although
without extras as with the MASH series. Nothing is
firm yet so us fans have to keep up the pressure on
FOX anyway we can. And then if any seasons are released
put our money where our mouth is and buy them ASAP.
Its the only way we'll see all seasons released. We
may have dodged a bullet. Lets not be dissapointed
because of lack of support for one of the best
sitcoms in TV history

Summary: Contact Info
Review: I've corresponded via e-mail AND actually spoken to the Fox representative below regarding additional MTM seasons being released. The last time we spoke, she said she would make a request to the people involved with the release of this DVD to check out these Amazon reviews regarding Season 1.
